Dusit Ajara Hua Hin opens in Cha-am

Dusit Thani has announced Dusit Ajara Hua Hin, an ultra-luxury residential development featuring over 60% green space. This is the second project by Dusit Thani as a property developer, following Dusit Residences and Dusit Parkside at Dusit Central Park.

Located at 1349 Petchkasem Road, Petchaburi, Cha-am, Dusit Ajara Hua Hin features leisure gardens, kids’ playgrounds, a wellness studio, and salt water pools. The project also embraces the multi-generational living concept, creating designed spaces and facilities for family members across all ages.

Hua Hin to host annual ‘Blessing of the Fleet’ ceremony

Mental health problems increasing in Thailand

Some 13.4 million Thais claim to have experienced mental health problems, with people aged 45–59, known as the pre-senior group, reporting the lowest happiness levels, according to the Thai Health Report 2025.

The report, compiled by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and Mahidol University’s Institute for Population and Social Research, and released on Monday, comprises four sections, including mental health and major public health issues. Continued …

A Scottish man living in Thailand had both legs amputated after a motorbike crash with a lorry in Bangkok.

Willie Braid, a 54-year-old expat from Scotland, was hit while riding his motorbike in the capital on July 27. The driver of the lorry is alleged to have fled the scene in what appears to be a hit-and-run incident. Continued …

Wild elephants roam 30 kilometers for Thai produce

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has reported that wild elephants are straying beyond their forest habitats in eastern Thailand, traveling over 30 kilometers in search of food.

Atthapol Charoenchansa, the department’s director-general, stated that elephants are attracted to the taste of local produce such as durians, mangosteens, bananas, and sugarcane, which are more appealing than their usual forest diet. Continued …

Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.(We recommend checking with the bus company about this schedule, as it changes without notice.)

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at  9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.

Thailand–Cambodia Tensions May Shutter Key Checkpoints, Slash Trade by 60%

A potential closure of five vital border checkpoints between Thailand and Cambodia could result in monumental financial losses. The Customs Department estimates that closing these gates could impact trade worth 174.53 billion baht.

Chief among the trade crossings at risk is the Aranyaprathet checkpoint in Sa Kaeo province, which handled over 110 billion baht of commerce with Cambodia last year. Tourism dip fuels worst stock drop in Asia at Thai airport firm

Thailand’s post-Covid flood of tourists has turned into more of a trickle, adding to concerns for Airports of Thailand (AoT) as it grapples with shrinking duty-free sales without a full-time chief executive officer.

The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. An American man and his Thai wife are pursuing justice after being duped by a real estate firm into buying two plots of land and a house in Hua Hin, amounting to 15.2 million baht. Despite their investment, they have been unable to gain ownership of the property.

Thailand reports 1.3% inflation in January

The headline consumer price index (CPI) in Thailand rose 1.32% in January from a year earlier, after an increase of 1.2% the month before, the Ministry of Commerce said today.

The figure was in line with a forecast rise of 1.3% in a Reuters poll and was inside the Bank of Thailand’s target range of 1% to 3% for the second consecutive month. Core CPI was up 0.83% in January from a year earlier. Continued …

Thailand’s rice exports are seen falling about 24% to 7.5 million metric tons this year, the Commerce Ministry reported on Tuesday. The lower forecast was due to the resumption of exports from India and improved volumes from other rice producers, Arada Fuangtong, head of the ministry’s Foreign Trade Department, told a media conference.

Bangkok PM2.5 tipped to worsen until Monday

Many parts of Bangkok have been blanketed in PM2.5 haze this week due to poor air circulation and an increase in hotspots in the provinces and neighboring countries, said Bangkok Gov. Chadchart Sittipunt.

“Do you think I can get out of here?” the question induced sudden dead air as no one could answer it. But for people familiar with the stories of a city of scammers located in a border town in Myanmar, it is not difficult to feel the gravity of terror inflicted on the woman who raised such a question.

Bitcoin mine in Chonburi shut down for massive electricity theft

The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) joined forces with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) yesterday to shut down a Bitcoin mining operation in the Phanat Nikhom district of Chonburi after discovering it had tampered with its power meter to use electricity for mining purposes, largely free of charge.

CSD officers and PEA officials seized 996 Bitcoin mining machines and other related devices from the premises. PEA officials estimated that the operation had stolen electricity worth hundreds of millions of baht, although the exact figure has yet to be determined. Continued …

PM to chair Pheu Thai party meeting in Hua Hin tomorrow

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will take a day away from matters of government tomorrow so she can chair a general meeting of the Pheu Thai Party in Hua Hin. Also attending will be former prime ministers Thaksin Shinawatra, her father, and Srettha Thavisin.

Paetongtarn will travel to Hua Hin by train, departing from Bangkok in the morning, stopping at Bang Bamru railway station to pick up her family, who will include her sister, Pinthongtha Shinawatra Kunakornwong’s family and her elder brother, Panthongtae Shinawatra. Data paints economy as ‘black hole’

I am known for being pessimistic about the Thai economy. Cabinet approves debt-relief measures

The cabinet on Wednesday approved debt support measures, including interest suspensions and reduced principal payments, to help tackle household and small-business debt, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said. The measures will help retail borrowers and smaller businesses, she told a press conference.

Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira told reporters the cabinet also agreed to allow banks to reduce their annual contribution to the Financial Institutions Development Fund (FIDF) to 0.23% from 0.46% of their deposits for three years. Continued …

Thailand’s shrimp industry battered by disease, low prices

Thai shrimp production is expected to decrease by 4% year-on-year because of disease outbreaks and falling prices, says the Thai Shrimp Assn. Ekapoj Yodpinit, president of the association, said total shrimp production in 2024 is predicted to fall to 270,000 tons, from 280,000 tons last year.

The decline is attributed to disease outbreaks and unstable weather, which affect the quality of baby shrimp and farming conditions. Falling prices have also prompted some farmers to postpone their new farming cycles. Continued …

What I Wish I Knew Before Visiting Thailand

I first visited Thailand a few years ago – a month of solo travel to avoid the rainy British winter. My first stop, Bangkok. I ate deep fried insects at Khao San Road and visited Siriraj Medical Museum, which exhibits grisly medical specimens in a decidedly maximalist fashion. I traveled south to visit a few of Thailand’s islands with a friend, then north to Chiang Mai and the small mountain town of Pai, which is popular with backpackers.

Last year I returned to Thailand on a hiking and kayaking trip, and visited the south of the country. We went to Cheow Lan Lake in Khao Sok National Park, a vast lake in the heart of Khao Sok National Park, where narrow karst islands jut out from the turquoise water. Youth advocates yesterday submitted climate action recommendations to the Royal Thai government. The recommendations drew on a national Suan Dusit Poll of nearly 1,000 children and young people across Thailand, followed by one-to-one discussions between UNICEF and young representatives.

The poll found that 93% of young people reported feeling the impact of climate change in their daily lives, affecting their mental and physical health, and that 85% were eager to take action. The air quality index (AQI) in Hua Hin, Bangkok, its adjacent provinces and some northern provinces has reportedly improved following the first day of rainmaking flights by the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation (DRRAA).

Baby elephants’ trunks caught in snares, rescue underway

Authorities from the Department of Conservation Area 2 (Sriracha) mobilized a team of veterinarians and wildlife officers to rescue two injured baby elephants trapped in snares. Concerns have been raised over the potential danger posed by the protective elephant herd during the operation.

The injured elephants were first spotted on Sunday in the forest around Kaeng Hang Maew, Kaeng Hang Maew District, Chanthaburi. 40% of fathers smoke, survey shows

Almost four in 10 fathers in Thailand smoke cigarettes, which mostly has a negative influence on their children, especially as more young people are now vaping while the average age of people who vape drops each year, according to new survey findings.

The survey, conducted recently on 1,159 fathers and other male relatives who have a key role in raising a child from birth until six years of age, found that 39.8% of respondents are smokers. Most (77.22%) smoke cigarettes, 12.36% vape and the rest both smoke both, he said. Continued …

Cabinet puts Bt10,000 benefit for the elderly on hold

Since 2014, Southeast Asian countries have witnessed a consistent rise in Chinese imports, with a noticeable acceleration starting in 2020. Cabinet approves 38.58 billion baht for rice farmers’ subsidies

The Cabinet on Tuesday earmarked 38.58 billion baht to cover subsidies for 4.68 million rice-farming households nationwide this year, Agriculture Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat said. She said the funds would be spent on providing a 1,000 baht per rai subsidy, capped at 10 rai per family.

Once the budget is formally approved by the Cabinet, the Agricultural Extension Department will send the list of eligible farmers to the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives to remit the money within this year, Narumon said. Continued …

Cabinet to consider carbon tax next week

The Finance Ministry is set to propose a carbon tax for cabinet approval on Dec. 11. Speaking at the Sustainability Forum 2025 seminar on Tuesday, Kulaya Tantitemit, director-general of the Excise Department, said the implementation of the carbon tax would not affect operators or consumers of oil and petroleum products because the overall tax burden on oil and petroleum products will remain the same.

The cabinet approved a package to help flood victims yesterday, both individuals and businesses in 50 provinces, which includes tax exemptions, soft loans, debt moratoria, interest rate cuts and loan guarantees.

The Flood, Storm, and Landslide Disaster Relief Operations Center has issued warnings to residents in nine southern provinces, as heavy rains move southward, increasing the risk of landslides. Jirayu Huangsap, the spokesperson for the center, reported that provinces at risk are Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Satun, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Yala.

Video: Elephant overturns vehicle with the driver inside

An elephant overturned a pickup truck on the side of the road with the driver inside, as it is believed that the latter did not wait for the animal to cross the road. The incident happened about 128 kilometers east of the capital Bangkok in rural Chachoengsao province Saturday evening.

Heavy rain in Hua Hin and Cha Am are anticipated to impact tourism during the upcoming three-day holiday, potentially worsening domestic visitor numbers. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) identified natural disasters as a critical factor to monitor during the high season.

Earlier this week, continuous rainfall led to flooding in Cha Am, Hua Hin, and parts of Phetkasem Highway, with water levels measuring between 20 and 40 centimeters. Udom Srimahachota, Thai Hotels Assn. Vice president, noted that tourists faced an additional two-hour travel time to reach their destinations in these areas. Consumer confidence index plunges to lowest in 14 months

The rising cost of living and the severe flooding in several areas of Thailand are among the reasons the consumer confidence index has once again dropped, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) said on Thursday.

UTCC’s Center for Economic and Business Forecasting reported that Thailand’s consumer confidence index in September stood at 55.3, dropping from 56.5 in July. The index has been falling for seven consecutive months and is now the lowest in 14 months, or since August 2023. Continued …

World Bank lowers Thailand’s GDP growth forecast from 2.8% to 2.4%

The World Bank has reduced Thailand’s GDP growth forecast for 2024 to 2.4%, while projecting that the Chinese economy will decline from 4.8% this year to 4.3% in 2025, owing to a weak property market and low consumer and investor confidence.

State revenue collection on course to hit target

The Finance Ministry is confident that revenue collection for fiscal 2024, which ended on Sept. 30, met its target as collections gradually improved, bolstered by higher contributions than expected from the Revenue Department and state-owned enterprises.

Pornchai Thiraveja, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office, said the latest report on net revenue collection from the Finance Ministry indicates for the first 11 months of fiscal 2024 (October 2023 to August 2024), the government collected net revenue (after tax refunds) of 2.452 trillion baht, which is 17.4 billion baht or 0.7% less than the target. Approvals granted to 11 out of 14 proposals for industrial estates

Some 14 industrial estates have requested approval for setting up new estates or expanding current ones this year, expecting to support factory investment of 480 billion baht, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) said.

The authority has approved 11 industrial estates, while three others were under consideration, the authority’s director, Sumet Tangprasert, said. Britain’s Zapp EV to build new electric vehicle site in Thailand

Zapp Electric Vehicles Group, a British electric vehicle brand, announced it has signed a contract with AIH Group for the construction of a manufacturing site in the Bangkok Free Trade Zone. The site is designed to demonstrate Zapp’s Gen-2 sustainable assembly and flexible manufacturing capabilities, with completion slated for early 2025.

The new facility will serve as a model for future Zapp manufacturing sites globally, aimed at regions with high sales growth potential.
