PKK part of new nine rainy-season tourist rail trips across Thailand

Bangkok Gov. Chadchart Sittipunt has declared victory in the Bangkok governor election after unofficial results showed the independent incumbent heading for a landslide second term.

With 89.9% of ballots counted last night, Chadchart had received around 1.444 million votes, compared with 288,171 for his nearest rival, Mallika Boonmeetrakool Mahasuk. Two rangers hurt as injured wild elephant charges team in Kui Buri

Two national park rangers were injured after an injured wild elephant charged at a rescue team attempting to provide emergency treatment in Kui Buri National Park, officials said. Officials received an urgent report on Friday that a male wild elephant with small tusks had suffered a serious foot injury.

The elephant’s right rear foot had partially detached, leaving it unable to bear weight on the leg. A veterinary team was dispatched with antibiotics to provide urgent treatment. Continued … 

Thailand Cracks Down on Fake Cannabis Prescriptions

Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health has launched a strict crackdown on the use of forged cannabis prescription forms after uncovering evidence of identity fraud and the online sale of fake documents used to obtain cannabis for recreational purposes.

The investigation found that fake reporting forms were being used to sell cannabis flowers to members of the public without medical examinations or professional consultations. Two PT service stations in Pattani province and another in Yala province were set on fire by what appeared to be coordinated bombings last night. One man was injured.

Elephant ride ends with mahout death, tourist injured

A 20-year-old male elephant used for tourist rides killed its mahout and injured an Omani tourist after becoming agitated in Phang Nga on Saturday. The fatal attack occurred after the elephant reportedly became distressed during a tour carrying two foreign tourists.

Authorities said the elephant attempted to enter a stream, but its mahout used a hook to prevent it from doing so. According to witnesses, the elephant became aggressive, throwing one of the tourists from its back. The injured tourist, a 33-year-old man from Oman, was taken to Phang Nga Hospital for treatment. Thailand tourism yet to recover despite 15 million foreign visitors

Thailand’s tourism recovery has yet to fully rebound despite welcoming more than 15 million foreign visitors this year, with international arrivals still falling short of last year’s levels, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Expats in Hua Hin left stranded as bank accounts locked without warning

Foreign residents in Hua Hin and across Thailand are reporting significant inconvenience after Bangkok Bank froze their accounts without prior notice, leaving many unable to access funds for daily expenses, bills, and emergencies.

The stricter identity verification measures, which began intensifying in May 2025, follow regulatory measures from the Bank of Thailand to curb financial fraud, money laundering, and so-called “mule” accounts used in scams. Local residents in the Nong Kae community of Hua Hin are calling for safer and more convenient ways to cross the railway at Soi 106 after officials confirmed an underpass cannot be built at the site.

On Friday, the mayor of Hua Hin City Municipality assigned Natthawan Mitdee, the mayor’s secretary, along with City Council President Cheep Suksri, council member Sorayut Premkamolnet, the director of the engineering office, and relevant officials to meet with representatives from the State Railway of Thailand, the head of the Nong Kae community, and local residents. Truck overturns on Phetkasem Road spilling 5 million meth pills

A lorry carrying millions of methamphetamine tablets crashed after a tire burst, scattering its illicit cargo across a stretch of Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) in Kui Buri district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The driver fled the scene.

The crash occurred at around 7.30 am yesterday near Ban Samrong, Sam Krathai subdistrict. The Bhumjaithai Party held the royal command ceremony in which Anutin Charnvirakul, party leader and MP on the party-list system, was formally appointed as the 32nd prime minister of Thailand yesterday.

Arphat Sukanan, secretary-general of the House of Representatives, brought the royal command appointing the prime minister to the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters on Phaholyothin Road. He then read out the royal command, in which His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (King Rama X) formally appointed Anutin Charnvirakul as prime minister of Thailand. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning today, highlighting heavy rainfall across 50 provinces, including Bangkok and its vicinity, with an expected 80% coverage of intense downpour.

Thieves Steal Ambulance, Run Out of Fuel & Call Police for Help

Two teenage thieves had an unusually unlucky day after stealing an ambulance from Krabi, running out of fuel mid-journey, and then daring to call the police for assistance, only to be arrested immediately.

The Criminal Court yesterday approved arrest warrants for 17 people, including construction tycoon Premchai Karnasuta, in connection with the collapse of the 2.1-billion-baht State Audit Office building in Bangkok, triggered by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in central Myanmar on March 28.

Abbot of renowned temple arrested over alleged 300M-baht embezzlement

The Criminal Court yesterday approved an arrest warrant for the abbot of a well-known temple in Nakhon Pathom, shortly after the monk voluntarily turned himself in to face allegations of embezzling 300 million baht to fund online gambling.

Norwegian Salmon Mania in Thailand Keeps Growing

Thais love salmon and saba, which may be an understatement. The exports of fresh Norwegian salmon, mackerel (saba), and fjord trout to Thailand continues to grow, with a 12% growth in 2024, according to Ashild Nakken, Norwegian Seafood Council’s director for Southeast Asia yesterday. Nakken added as for 2025, so far, the exports of salmon and fjord trout have risen “by an impressive 18 percent.”

Consumer confidence drops for third month in a row

The consumer confidence index (CCI) dropped for a third consecutive month in April to hit its lowest level in seven months, attributed to concerns over U.S. tariffs, falling agricultural product prices, and political uncertainties. The CCI decreased from 56.7 in March to 55.4 in April, according to the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC).

Tourism reform called for as foreign arrivals in Thailand plunge

Thailand needs to urgently address the free fall in foreign arrivals, which is more pronounced this quarter among both leisure and corporate travelers, by reforming the sector and creating new destinations, according to a former head of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at  9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.
