Khao Hin Lek Fai Hua Hin to be developed into new landmark attraction

Khao Hin Lek Fai, one of Hua Hin’s most recognizable viewpoints, is set to undergo major improvements aimed at transforming it into a new landmark attraction, following discussions led by Hua Hin City Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul.

The project’s main objectives are to upgrade the area’s infrastructure and improve visitor facilities. Planned developments include renovating the entrance archway, expanding the car park, and improving the tourist service center. Thailand’s cool season begins officially tomorrow

Thailand will officially enter the cool season tomorrow, with the coldest period between mid-December and early February, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.

The cool season is considered to have begun once temperatures in the upper part of the country consistently drop, winds shift to the northeast or east, and rainfall decreases significantly, said Suchada Thaensap, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. Continued …

Scam Gangs Shift Base From Cambodia To Thailand

Scam gangs are allegedly relocating their operations from Cambodia to Thailand after a joint crackdown by South Korean and Cambodian police, according to a report by Sisa Journal. The South Korean magazine’s investigation revealed that the move follows increased law enforcement pressure in Cambodia, with scammers seeking safer ground in neighboring Thailand.

A journalist from Sisa Journal contacted a middle manager of a scam center in Thailand,between Oct. 17- 21.  The manager said that scam operations linked to human trafficking continue without signs of stopping, despite international efforts to dismantle them. He noted that some gang members in Cambodia mocked the recent crackdown, even as signs emerged of their relocation into Thailand. Continued …

Thai construction giant denies links to call center scams

One of Thailand’s leading construction companies, Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Co. (STECON), filed a complaint against two members of Parliament (MPs) from the People’s Party, claiming both accused the company of involvement in a call center scam network.

The United States and United Kingdom recently accused the Prince Holding Group, owned by 32-year-old Chinese-born Chen Zhi, of operating a call center scam in Southeast Asia. The company now faces financial sanctions and asset seizures worth hundreds of billions of baht. Continued …

Minister under fire as PM seeks clarification on alleged Cambodia scam link

Deputy Finance Minister Vorapak Tanyawong has been ordered by the prime minister to clarify, in writing, an allegation that he is among seven Thai politicians believed to be connected with Cambodia’s Prince Group, a major transnational scam syndicate named by the US Department of Justice.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Vorapak promised to send him a written clarification and would also give a press conference about the allegation against him, adding that, if anyone in his administration is found to be involved with scam activities, they will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Petrol, diesel pump prices cut

The energy minister yesterday ordered a reduction in pump prices of 50 satang per liter for diesel and 30 satang for all kinds of petrol, effective from 5am today.

A young Belarusian model who traveled to Bangkok for a job interview on Sept. 20 was abducted and taken to a scam center in Myanmar where she was murdered and her organs sold, according to media reports.

According to these reports the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the incident involving Vera Kravtsova, 26, and is assisting the family through diplomatic channels. Thailand Plans Jan 31 House Dissolution, March 29 Election Day

The Thai government has tentatively set January 31st as the date for dissolving the House, aiming to hold a general election on March 29. The plan also includes proposing a new Constitution and conducting a public referendum. These steps are part of the agreement with the opposition People’s Party, promising dissolution after four months in office.

Since the government began its term on Oct.1, the timeline dictates the House must dissolve by the end of January. Following this, the general election should occur within 60 days, making March 29 the proposed date. Bangkok’s giant sinkhole expanding

The filling of the huge sinkhole on Bangkok’s Samsen Road will require much more sand that earlier thought because it’s getting bigger, according to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority.

The MRTA said yesterday the original sinkhole was 30 meters wide, 30 meters long and 20 meters deep, but had since expanded and was still getting bigger. The initial estimate that about 8,000 cubic meters of sand would be needed to fill it was now not enough. Continued …

Yemeni conman arrested in Hua Hin for Bt1.15-milion foreign-exhange scam

Police have arrested a 43-year-old man in Hua Hin after he pulled off a brazen scam at foreign exchange booths six times in just nine days. Yemeni national Nabil Mohammed Yahya Zaid stole a total of Bt1.15 million by convincing tellers he had already deposited the foreign currency required for each transaction.

Authorities say the operation was carefully planned and that Zaid likely had an accomplice. A Kenyan man has been arrested in connection with the case. Phuket airport forecasts 16 million passengers this year

Phuket International Airport expects to welcome more than 16 million passengers this year, driven by rising international arrivals and new direct flight routes from Europe and Asia, said airport director Monchai Tanode.

Low water pressure problem caused by damaged pipe

Residents in parts of Hua Hin, including Soi 102, Soi 94, and surrounding neighborhoods, have been experiencing low water pressure and service disruptions due to damage to a major raw water pipeline, municipal officials confirmed this week.

Flooding expected in Bangkok and vicinity as rivers, tides rise

The National Water Resources Office (ONWR) has forecast that water levels along the Chao Phraya River near Phra Chulachomklao Fort and surrounding areas from Oct. 3-6 between 4-6 pm will coincide with high tides, reaching approximately 1.7-1.9 meters above mean sea level — around 0.2 meters above critical levels — due to a weakening southwest monsoon.

Meanwhile, easterly and southeasterly winds continue to bring rainfall to parts of Thailand, further raising river levels and causing potential flooding in low-lying areas along the Chao Phraya, Tha Chin, and Mae Klong rivers, including communities outside embankments and temporary flood barriers in Samut Prakan, Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Songkhram provinces. Another road collapse in Bangkok

A section of Charoen Krung Road near the Electricity Authority in Bangkok suddenly subsided yesterday morning and the road has been partially closed to traffic. The road surface collapsed around 10 am.

Another condo fall death in Pattaya

A man believed to be of Asian origin died after falling from a condominium in North Pattaya yesterday. His body was discovered on the ground between two towers of the complex, ripped into two parts from the force of the impact.

The incident occurred at a condominium on Second Road. The complex consists of three towers. The body was located between Towers A and B, dressed in a black T-shirt and shorts, and was found to have struck a wall during the fall, causing the horrific damage to the body. Continued …

Co-payment stimulus scheme to start on Oct 29

The government’s Khon La Khrueng (half-half) co-payment economic stimulus scheme will begin on Oct. 29, with registration expected to open soon after cabinet approval next week, according to Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas.

New stimulus expected to improve 4th quarter GDP

New Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas says the government’s economic stimulus plan will enable GDP expansion of more than 1% in the fourth quarter, up from an earlier forecast of just 0.3%.

Booming export numbers on course to smash expectations

Exports are expected to grow by 6%-7% this year, surpassing the previous target of 2%-3%, according to the Commerce Ministry. Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun outlined seven key policies yesterday as part of a “Quick Big Win” strategy aimed at addressing economic challenges and enhancing the country’s trade and export capabilities.

Sales of trucks and motorcycles, as well as farmers’ incomes nationwide, continued to contract in August due to the economic slowdown, according to the Fiscal Policy Office’s (FPO) regional economic report.

Pornchai Thiraveja, director-general of the FPO, said new truck registrations declined across all regions, with those in the central region falling by 70.8% year-on-year, the south by 30.3%, the northeast by 49.9%, the north by 57.7%, the east by 31.2%, the west by 55.4%, and Bangkok and surrounding areas by 50.7%. Thailand’s most polluting coal plant gets new lease on life

Thailand has announced it will delay the decommissioning of several coal-fired units at the 2,400-megawatt Mae Moh power plant in Lampang province, prompting fears among communities who have dealt with health problems linked to the plant for decades. Plan to fix tap water shortage in Phuket ‘going nowhere’

A long-delayed project to end water shortages in Phuket has been sent back to the drawing board pending the results of a new feasibility study, which could pave the way for private-sector involvement, according to the Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA).

Singhachai Inthapichai, director of the PWA’s Division 4, said the study — covering a plan to pump raw water from Ratchaprapha Dam in Surat Thani’s Ban Khun district to Phuket, Phangnga, and Krabi via a 300-kilometer pipeline network — is expected to be finished by February 2027. Continued …

Wind and solar power generation are expected to meet over 80% of the increase in electricity demand out to 2035, led by China.

“Solar generation continues to grow more rapidly than wind power, reflecting faster declines in costs, shorter deployment timelines and greater policy support. Goldwind’s turbines to power 286 MW of Thai wind farms

Goldwind Science & Technology Co. has secured a deal from Gulf Energy Development to deliver its hardware for 286 MW of wind projects in Thailand.

The Chinese wind turbine manufacturer’s machines will be used at four of Gulf’s projects. The turbines will be installed on its proprietary steel-concrete hybrid towers designed to boost power output in low-to-medium wind speed conditions, adding that the project will be the first deployment of its hybrid tower technology in Southeast Asia. Hawksbill turtle hatchlings emerge from 16th nest on Koh Talu

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has reported the successful hatching of hawksbill turtles from the 16th nest on Koh Talu, with a survival rate of 72%.

The hatching was confirmed last Thursday following continuous monitoring by officers from the Ao Siam National Park and the Siam Marine Resources Rehabilitation Foundation. Majority of Thais fear bank accounts could be frozen under mule account crackdown

Most Thais are deeply concerned that their bank accounts could be frozen due to the ongoing enforcement of measures to curb mule accounts and online scams, according to a survey. The Suan Dusit University, or Suan Dusit Poll, conducted the survey among 1,154 respondents nationwide between Sept. 16 and 19.

The poll followed public complaints that savings accounts had been frozen despite no involvement in online scams. Many complainants were small vendors who received payments via QR codes or bank transfers from customers. Banks and authorities explained that only transactions linked to suspected mule accounts were suspended pending verification, not entire accounts.
