PKK community fights factory stench, faces relocation woes
For years, the residents of the Ban Thammarat community in Prachuap Khiri Khan have been tormented by the foul odor emitted by the wastewater from a local rubber factory. Despite their pleas for regular inspections and serious action toward wastewater management, the issue remains unresolved, forcing some to relocate.
The community, located in Area 5, has long complained about the factory, which purchases rubber waste and discharges untreated wastewater onto personal land. The stench has permeated the area, affecting their daily lives. Continued …
Thailand shifts gears with online vehicle registration
The Thai government has launched an online vehicle registration service, providing a more convenient and time-saving option for the public. This move aligns with the government’s digital transformation policy, which aims to facilitate access to public services. As a result, citizens can now book a single number plate for each vehicle.
Ratchada Thanadirek, deputy government spokesperson, highlighted that this initiative is part of the government’s broader endeavor to promote digital transformation in public sector organizations. The policy, led by former Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, focuses on digitalization to streamline processes and enhance service delivery. Continued …

The Thai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall across various regions of the country, brought about by low atmospheric pressure near the Vietnamese upper shore and the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Thailand.
Thailand continues to experience thunderstorms, with heavy rain in certain parts of the northeast, and central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity. Citizens in the upper northeastern region are advised to be cautious of heavy and accumulated rainfall, potentially leading to flooding. Continued …
Does crashing birthrate and aging society spell doom for Thailand?
The median age in Thailand currently stands at 40 years and two months, far older than the world average of 30 years and five months. This startling fact suggests that if Thailand fails to take action now, it could rapidly be overwhelmed by problems related to its aging society.
Thailand’s population is on course to shrink by at least 50% by 2100, according to the Social Development and Human Security Ministry. Continued …
Cannabis network pushes for home-grown weed, import ban
Thailand’s Cannabis Future Network is seeking 10,000 names to petition parliament to continue its reading of the Cannabis-Hemp Act, which would allow individuals to grow weed at home and ban the import of cannabis products for five years.
Prasitchai Nunual, the network leader, said yesterday the act was initially composed of 95 sections, but parliament’s reading only reached Section 17 due to a change of government. Continued …

Exports decline for 10th straight month
The value of Thai exports dropped for a 10th consecutive month in July, and by more than forecast, mainly because global commodity prices have fallen back from the highs reached last year in the first few months of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Weak global demand has been exacerbated by high interest rates and tougher lending practices, resulting in a deceleration of consumer spending, said Keerati Rushchano, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Commerce. Continued …
