Hua Hin in the radar of nominee business investigations

Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, director-general of the Department of Business Development (DBD), said yesterday the DBD and the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) had discussed the nominee situation in Thailand, and that the agencies had jointly set out a rigorous approach to inspecting nominee companies.

Pathum Thani Dogs Poisoned and Shot Dead

Six stray dogs were found dead after being poisoned in Pathum Thani, with some also showing gunshot wounds to the head, according to local residents and animal carers.

Nine Arrested in Thailand for African Ivory Smuggling

Nine people were arrested in Thailand during simultaneous sting operations across seven provinces for illegal possession of 250 kilograms of African ivory. The Central Investigation Bureau uncovered the ivory smuggling ring, which was operating through a Facebook group.

Following the investigation, coordinated raids on May 7 led to the capture of nine suspects and the confiscation of ivory products, along with tools used in their production. The illegal operation involved trade through a group named “Khiaw Nga Khrueang Rang Chak Sat,” which advertised and sold ivory products online. Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun said Thailand is accelerating negotiations on the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) with the United States in a bid to reduce tariff risks ahead of a Section 301 review.

Foreign man’s body found off Hua Don Beach

The Air Pollution Resolution Communication Center reported early on Tuesday that these unsafe levels could intensify over the next week.

30 Deaths on 5th Dangerous Day

Thailand recorded 30 deaths and 202 injuries from 192 road accidents on Tuesday, as authorities intensified safety measures during the Songkran holiday travel period. Officials warned of increased risks, as large numbers of people began returning to Bangkok and other major cities.

Over the five-day campaign period from April 10-14, a total of 951 accidents resulted in 911 injuries and 191 deaths. Speeding accounted for 38.5% of accidents, followed by drink driving at 28.1%. Drink-Driving Accounts for 94% of Songkran Cases

Drink-driving made up over 94% of probation cases in Thailand’s first five days of Songkran, with Chiang Mai recording the highest number. From April 10-14, the Probation Department processed 3,961 cases, of which 3,726 involved drink-driving.

In addition to drink-driving, there were 230 cases of drug-impaired driving, four reckless driving cases, and one street-racing case during this period. Official Announcement: Updated Visa Extension Regulations

Effective Nov. 13, 2025, the Immigration Bureau has introduced new regulations regarding visa extensions. The key changes are as follows:

Visa extensions are now limited to two (2) times per calendar year.
The first extension grants an additional 30 days of stay.
The second extension grants an additional 7 days of stay.
Foreign nationals entering Thailand via land border checkpoints are not eligible for visa extensions.
Visa extensions will not be granted to individuals who depart and re-enter Thailand on the same day.

Thailand to Lift 2–5pm Alcohol Ban

The Ministry of Public Health extended permitted drinking hours from midnight to 1am and launched a six-month pilot program to lift the afternoon alcohol sales ban between 2pm and 5pm.

Over 40 people were injured, and 17 lost their lives after an educational field trip bus overturned while descending Khao San Pu Tone mountain in Prachin Buri’s Na Di district this morning.

Authorities have announced progress in a crackdown on foreigners using Thai nominees to illegally run businesses, focusing on tourism and real estate. Between September 2024 and January 2025, a multi-agency taskforce led by the Commerce Ministry prosecuted 820 illegal nominee businesses, with estimated damages totaling 12.5 billion baht, officials revealed on Monday.
