Four lanes for soi 102?

Hua Hin municipality is preparing to widen Hua Hin Soi 102 from two lanes to four and install new drainage along a 1.93-kilometer stretch. No construction start date has been announced.

The proposed work would run from the front of the municipality’s machinery center to Setthawit School. More than 28,000 square meters of road surface would be resurfaced with asphalt concrete. Sirithip Thipthammakhun has been named as the new hotel manager of Villa Maroc Pranburi. Prior to joining Villa Maroc Pranburi, she served as general manager of Kundala Beach Resort Hua Hin from August 2023, overseeing overall hotel operations, strategic planning, business development, financial performance and team leadership.

She previously served as hotel operations manager at The Tree Riverside Kaeng Krachan, managing daily operations, service standards, guest satisfaction, and departmental performance. Nene Royal to voice Disney’s Hexed in Thailand

Thai rocker Nene Royal, winner of America’s Got Talent 2026, will make her acting debut as the Thai voice of Billie Doe in Disney’s animated fantasy Hexed.

Nene Royal to sing for over 400 guests at IMF–World Bank reception

Nene Royal is set to perform for more than 400 guests at Thailand’s official reception for the International Monetary Fund (IMF)–World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026 on Wednesday evening (October 14, 2026). The event will take place at Government House’s Santi Maitri Building, Prime Minister’s Office spokesman Ekkaphop Phianphiset said.

UK Banker who exposed Epstein links found dead outside Bangkok

British banker and whistleblower Simon Andriesz, 57, was found dead in Khlong Luang, just outside Bangkok, on the morning of September 23. The local municipality recorded his cause of death as “asphyxiation from hanging”.

Andriesz, who had worked on Wall Street and had recently been living in Cornwall, was known for allegations concerning his former employer, BGC Group, and its former chief executive Howard Lutnick, now US Commerce Secretary under President Donald Trump. Continued … 

No signs of plague in Thailand

Thailand has not implemented any additional measures regarding the suspected plague in Russia, as Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat stated there are currently no plans for further action unless new developments emerge.

While the Department of Disease Control is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Ministry of Transport to watch for potential risks from travelers, officials consider the risk of transmission to Thailand to be low. In these places, drainage systems are designed to cope with short, heavy downpours of rain. But the rains in Bangkok over the last week were far from typical.

Manufacturers face flood hit of 2.13 billion baht

Hospitals told to stock seven days of medicines

Thai inflation rises 2.82% in September

Thailand’s headline consumer price index rose 2.82% in September from a year earlier, the Commerce Ministry said yesterday, as food and fuel prices increased.

September’s increase followed annual headline inflation of 2.53% in August. It also remained within the Bank of Thailand’s target range of 1% to 3%. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed officials to advance tariff negotiations after receiving a letter from US President Donald Trump expressing hope that an agreement with Thailand can be signed soon, government spokesman Ekkapop Pianpises said oyesterday.

Speaking at Government House after a Cabinet meeting, Ekkapop said Anutin had briefed ministers on the letter and assigned Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun to continue the Thailand–US tariff negotiations and prepare for signing. Continued … 

Energy Ministry to cut fuel subsidies as oil fund deficit exceeds 100 billion baht

Thailand’s Oil Fuel Fund has begun scaling back diesel support as its deficit has passed 100 billion baht, an Energy Ministry source said. The ministry is preparing a gradual withdrawal of subsidies to slow cash outflows while awaiting policy direction on further measures.

The Oil Fuel Fund Office’s Oct. 4 financial statement put the fund’s net deficit at 98.942 billion baht, comprising 58.429 billion baht in the oil account and 40.513 billion baht in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) account. Cabinet okays tax perks to support MICE sector

Southeast Asia could save US$45.4 billion with solar instead of planned gas projects

Southeast Asia could save approximately US$45.4 billion by installing enough solar photovoltaic capacity to generate the same amount of electricity as planned gas power projects across five major economies, according to research group Zero Carbon Analytics (ZCA).

Nearly 49 gigawatts (GW) of gas capacity is in pre-construction or construction across Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam, according to ZCA’s analysis of Global Energy Monitor data. Clean Kinetics Begins Construction Of 3.27 MW Solar Project At Sats Thailand

Clean Kinetics, a Singapore-based solar energy developer, has started construction of a $2-million solar photovoltaic project at Sats Thailand’s central kitchen facility in Pathum Thani province, around 40 kilometers north of Bangkok.

The project will feature a 3.27 MWp solar power system comprising approximately 5,000 solar panels. The panels will be installed across rooftops, carports, and ground-mounted areas within the facility. A raid carried out during the early hours of Monday morning on an unlicensed bar in Hua Hin Soi 80 resulted in the arrest of several individuals involved in illegal activity.

Heavy rain alert: 39 Thai provinces braced for potential floods

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued an advisory for continuous rainfall over many parts of the country. A total of 39 provinces, including the capital city of Bangkok, are expected to experience heavy rainfall, covering 60% of these areas. The Department has forewarned residents in these regions to be on guard for potential flash floods and land runoff from today onward.

The Thai Red Cross Society disclosed the touching story of a mother who donated the heart of her son on a life-support machine to save another’s life. Despite facing criticism from people who couldn’t understand her decision, the mother hit back saying it was the right thing to do to save the life of another.

Sopha Noyjinda’s son, Adisorn Sangsi, was involved in a tragic accident that turned the family’s life upside down. The accident left Adisorn on a life-support machine. Sopha said, “People were questioning how I could let him go as he was still breathing, but I knew his life was only due to the machines. If we unplugged him, he wouldn’t survive.” Continued …

New small hotel regulations to increase tourist capacity

The latest amendment to the 2008 Ministerial regulations on the classification of hotel businesses will allow some 50,000 operators offering over 2 million rooms to legally register as small hotels, further enhancing Thailand’s capacity to welcome tourists, while also creating more jobs, the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) announced on Monday.

According to Manosit Jangjob, head of the TCT’s small hotel subcommittee, Thailand has around 85,000 businesses that fit the category of small hotels, but only 14,000 of them have been able to register under the 2008 regulations. Continued …

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is calling on the government to lay down new measures to support industries affected by sluggish exports. FTI chief Kriengkrai Thiennukul said businesses need urgent support because many have cut down working hours to prevent closure.

The Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB) has said it is evaluating strategies to provide quick assistance to industrial groups affected by the slowdown in exports. Thailand’s sustained economic recovery pushes up energy consumption

Thailand’s energy consumption rose by 3.8% in the first four months of this year, thanks to a sustained economic recovery following the easing of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO), the rise in energy consumption was primarily driven by an increase in the consumption of refined petroleum products. Aviation fuel consumption saw a significant rise of 89.1%, while petrol consumption increased by 6.2%. However, other energy sources like lignite/coal in the industrial sector saw a drop of 8.9%. Thailand’s tourism confidence slides amid global economy concerns

The second quarter of this year saw the Tourism Confidence Index remaining subdued, sliding from the previous quarter. The contributor to this drop was a blend of Thailand‘s low season and decreased earnings from tourism.

The president of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), Chamnan Srisawat, announced that the second quarter’s score was two points lower than the prior quarter at 72. This noticeably fell short of the identical period in 2019, which recorded 100, inferring weakened optimism. Tourist forecast dips to 25 million for the year

In a recent announcement, the kingdom is on track to welcome 25 million tourists by the year end, offering a much-needed booster to the economy. (Earlier predictions were for 30 illion tourists for 2023.) This follows a significant surge in Thai tourism, exceeding 12 million arrivals recorded late last month.

Between January and June 25 of this year, the kingdom saw a record-breaking 12.46 million tourists, marking an increase of 539% over the same period in the previous year. Airport capacity at Suvarnabhumi to increase with new terminal and tech upgrades

Airports of Thailand (AoT) is set to inaugurate a new satellite passenger terminal at Suvarnabhumi Airport come this September.

As per estimates by LGBT Capital, an asset-management company serving the LGBTQ community, 5% to 10% of the world’s population identifies as LGBTQ+. This demographic represented around 3.6 million residents in Thailand in 2019.

Sunee Hill: Forging her own path

When I first met Sunee Hill, a petite, feisty, white-haired Thai nonagenarian, she fixed me with her steely eyes and told me, point-blank, that I could write her story. This is the remarkable story of her life journey and her art, which has helped her explore her Chinese heritage.

Sunee was born and raised in Bangkok, the second child of nine to Chinese immigrant parents. Her father was a merchant who supplied materials to the construction industry. Because Thai authorities at the time had difficulty recording the details of her name and existence in Chinese language, she was not officially registered until quite some time later, so has a passport recording her birth as having happened in 1940, when it was indeed in 1932. Funeral attendees win cows, receive rice gifts in unique 200,000 baht Thai almsgiving

In Buriram province, a funeral for 92-year-old Wun Chongchaingam has drawn a large crowd due to the unusual almsgiving of 1.5 tons of rice and a raffle for five cows, worth a total of 200,000 baht (US$ 5,758), for needy villagers and attendees. The event took place at Wat Pa Non-Somboon temple.

Many villagers attended the funeral to pay respects and participate in merit-making for the deceased woman, as well as to try their luck at winning one of the five cows. Thai economy to enjoy positive growth, economists say

The Thai economy is still growing despite the risk of a global economic recession, economists said during the recent “Investment Forum: New Chapter, New Opportunity” seminar organized by Krungthep Turakij.

Somprawin Manprasert, head of Siam Commercial Bank’s Economic Intelligence Center, said that while the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) did not hike interest rates at its meeting last week, as it wanted to send a signal that such hikes need not be constant, it was anticipated that there would be two further increases from the current rate of 5.25% this year, mainly to mitigate the impacts of rising fuel costs. Further interest hikes likely

Thailand is likely to see higher interest rates in the second half of 2023 following the U.S. Federal Reserve’s indication of two further interest rate hikes this year and a signal from the Bank of Thailand that it, too, might raise interest.

According to Roong Sanguanruang of Krungsri Bank, it was earlier expected that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) might pause interest rate hikes at 2%. Continued …

Hua Hin now has twice-daily bus service to Pattaya, leaving Hua Hin at 9am and 3pm, and departing from Pattaya at 8am and 4pm. Tickets are 473 THB.
