Thailand could curb climate change impact with forest expansion

The severe consequences of climate change could potentially be curbed in Thailand by the expansion of forest coverage on unused lands, asserted a water expert. Royon Jitdon, who provides advice to the Hydro-Informatics Institute under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, expressed confidence in the climate change mitigation capabilities of forest plantations, particularly in terms of reducing drought impacts in agricultural regions.

Thailand’s forest zones span over 102 million rai, equivalent to 31% of the country’s total land area, according to Royon. In line with the national reform policy, the government aims to elevate green areas in the country by 45% within two decades. Lifting of afternoon alcohol sales ban being considered

The Thai government is considering lifting the afternoon prohibition on alcohol sales in a bid to boost its tourism industry. Public Health Minister Cholnan Srikaew is planning to ask the government’s alcohol control committee to discuss the appeal by the Thai Alcohol Beverage Business Assn. (TABBA) to revoke the rule that restricts alcohol sales between 2pm and 5pm.

The afternoon ban is not strictly a part of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act but was implemented by a coup-maker in 1972, Dr. Cholnan stated. Continued …

Navy Shelves Project To Salvage Sunken Corvette Sukhothai

The Navy has put an open bidding on hold for the planned retrieval of the sunken navy corvette c (FSG-442) from under the sea off Prachuap Khiri Khan for the time being.

Transport Ministry outlines its projects for 2024

The Ministry of Transport has allocated 389.75 billion baht to fund transportation projects as part of the government’s plan to create a seamless transportation system in Thailand.

Thai workers overseas contribute 60 billion baht in Q1

Thai boy, 8, to cross Gulf of Thailand on a kite foil from Pattaya to Hua Hin

Thanawat “Shane” Promwen, 8 years old, started his adventure across the Gulf of Thailand this morning, embarking on a journey of 110 kilometers (70 miles) from Pattaya to Pak Nam Pran, in the Hua Hin area, setting the record for being the youngest child ever to achieve this goal. by crossing with kite foil.

Shane has been making waves in the kite and wing foilling world since the age of 3, and his latest adventure marks a big step forward. In preparation for international competition in 2024. At present, he is too young to compete and has to rely on special invitations to participate in adult competitions.

Shane’s trip will start from Pattaya Club Lung Chat at Na Jomtien Beach. and will end at Prince Chumphon Shrine Beach At Pak Nam Pran, 30 kilometers south of Hua Hin.

Bangkok region hit by unsafe levels of PM2.5 smog again

Air quality in Bangkok and surrounding areas was still poor on Tuesday, with levels of PM2.5 pollution exceeding the safety threshold in 68 districts in and around the capital. 10 days of rainfall predicted in Thailand, with lower temperatures

The Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) predicted rainfall for the next 10 days, from Jan. 22-31. The TMD anticipates thunderstorms in the northern, central and upper northeastern regions, with a temperature rise expected.

From Jan. 22-26, a moderate to strong mass of cold air will spread over the northeast and the South China Sea, which will result in a southerly wind and a southeasterly wind bringing moisture from the Gulf of Thailand. This will cover the lower central region, the eastern region, Bangkok and its vicinity, and the upper southern region. COVID-19 hospital admissions increase 12.9% during the past week

COVID-19 infections in Thailand are on the rise, with 718 patients being admitted to hospitals between Jan. 14-20. Of these, 11 have died, compared to four a week earlier, according to the Department of Disease Control.
