Thailand F-16 jet bombs Cambodian targets as border clash escalates

A Thai F-16 fighter jet bombed targets in Cambodia, both sides said, as weeks of tension over a border dispute escalated into clashes yesterday that have killed at least 12 people, including 11 civilians.

Of the six F-16 fighter jets that Thailand readied to deploy along the disputed border, one of the aircraft fired into Cambodia and destroyed a military target, the Thai army said. Both countries accused each other of starting the clash early yesterday. Continued … 

12 Killed in Cambodian Artillery Strikes on Civilian Areas

Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin confirmed yesterday that 12 people, 11 civilians and one Thai soldier, were killed in artillery shelling launched by Cambodian forces, in what officials have condemned as a blatant attack on civilian areas.

The strikes, which also wounded at least 24 civilians and seven military personnel, included a direct hit on a hospital within Thai territory. Among the civilian casualties was a child, underscoring the devastating impact on non-combatants. Continued …

Royal Thai Marines Deploy Heavy Weapons to Trat Border Amid Escalating Tensions

New Driving License Rule Causes Concern Among Expats

Nan flood ‘worst in 40 years’

Flooded Chiang Rai farm sparks dramatic pig rescue

A frantic mission is underway in Chiang Rai, where rising floodwaters have forced officials to evacuate more than 1,000 pigs from a waterlogged farm — one tiny boatload at a time.

With land access cut off, rescuers are relying on small boats to ferry the animals to dry ground. The pigs are first placed into cages before being loaded onto boats, which then make the slow trip to trucks waiting roadside. Thai exports rise 15.5%, below forecast

Thailand’s customs-cleared exports rose 15.5% in June from a year earlier, the Commerce Ministry said yesterday, below analysts’ expectations, with a strong baht eroding trade.

Tourism confidence dives

The tourism confidence index in the second quarter plunged year-on-year, as tourism contracted since the beginning of the year due to safety concerns and cautious tourism spending following the U.S.’s decision to implement a reciprocal tariff policy, according to the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT).

The TCT also predicted that Thailand would gain only 33.3 million foreign arrivals this year, which is even fewer visitors than last year, and secure 1.75 trillion baht revenue. Continued …

Thai hotels face crisis as Chinese tourists drop by 42%

The Thai hotel industry is facing a significant drop in tourist numbers. Chinese tourists alone decreased by 42% in June. The Thai Hotels Assn. is urging the government to enhance the country’s image, enforce safety measures, and tackle overcharging of foreign tourists.

Tianprasert Chaipattaranan, President of the Thai Hotels Assn., expressed concern over the drop in foreign tourists, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. In the first six months of 2025, a total of 16.68 million foreign tourists visited Thailand, a 4.7% decrease from the 17.5 million during the same period last year. Continued …

Departing passenger service charge may go up

The Transport Ministry has told Airports of Thailand (AoT) to explore the possibility of raising the passenger service charge (PSC) for departing passengers at six major airports under its supervision. Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said an increase of 100 baht is under consideration.

The study will compare Thailand’s rates to those at major international airports, including those in Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong. The results are expected by September. Continued …

WP Energy ramps up Thai solar panel distribution

How plastic pollution flows from rivers to oceans — and how to stop it

Rivers carry plastic across continents, so scientists tracked its movement across continents too. A sweeping new study spanning four continents and eight countries has amassed one of the largest datasets ever collected on plastic pollution in rivers — offering insights that the researchers responsible believe are key to helping turn off the tap of plastic waste.

“I agree with AJB’s comments ‘Re: Hua Hin development plans’. But may I add, it would be nice to have real car taxis in Hua Hin, rather than the current rough bumpy questionably-unsafe tuk tuks, which are less than safe on flooded roads or during heavy rain downpours.” Jim

Editor: Sorry Jim, but there are plenty of regular taxis in Hua Hin, not to mention the availability of Grab and Uber.

We agree the site should not be copying articles in full from other publications, but should only do as we, as a news aggregator, do – headline, 2-3 paragraphs, and link to original article. As to the comments for the story, how do you know they are fake? And as to the marijuana promotion, it’s legal (still) and cannabis is far less harmful than alcohol or tobacco.

Kanchanaburi woman nabbed in Hua Hin for 2.7M-baht fake charity scam

A self-styled charity organizer has landed in hot water after allegedly conning top-tier donors out of 2.7 million baht, all under the pretense of raising money for underprivileged children and monks. Instead of helping the needy, she reportedly helped herself.

The suspect, 52-year-old Kesarin, was arrested Tuesday at a home in Hua Hin’s Nong Kae subdistrict for fraud following a warrant issued by the Criminal Court on July 16. A lengthy investigation revealed that Kesarin had masterminded a phony fundraising event in March last year. Continued …

Cambodia opens fire at Thai military base

Cambodian soldiers opened fire at a Thai military base in the northeastern province of Surin and launched rockets toward Si Sa Ket this morning, as hostilities in the disputed border area worsened, according to the Royal Thai Army.

‘Moderately Serious’ Arsenic Levels Found in Kok River

Four out of five samples of water taken from Kok River in Thailand, which is a tributary of Mekong River, showed arsenic levels higher than the standard limit of 0.01 milligram per liter, according to a recent water-quality assessment by the Mekong River Commission (MRC), classifying it as “moderately serious”.

Editor: A “promenade” is in the plans. However, legal action by the affected businesses is a possibility, delaying any demolition and possible “improvements” perhaps by years.

Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair starts today

The 27th annual Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair will take place from June 27 to July 6. Phuket officials are ramping up security in one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations after a safety inspection at Patong Beach, aimed at reassuring tourists and locals. Authorities in Phang Nga were placed on high alert after a suspected explosive device was discovered yesterday near the perimeter fence of the provincial governor’s residence. Hua Hin beachside structures face final demolition deadline

Authorities have set a final deadline ofJuly 7 for the demolition of more than 30 beachside buildings in Hua Hin that have been deemed illegal due to encroachment on public coastal land.

The buildings in question include homes, guesthouses, and seafood restaurants, many of which have become familiar fixtures in the area over several decades. They are located along Naresdamri Road, stretching from the Fishing Pier to the Chaomae Tubtim Shrine, a section of Hua Hin’s beachfront long associated with local business and tourism. Continued …

Designated smoking areas set up on Hua Hin Beach

Officials have reinforced the smoking ban on Hua Hin Beach by installing and refurbishing signs at 10 designated smoking areas, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public health and cleanliness along the shoreline.

Yesterday, the Office of Marine and Coastal Resources 3 (Phetchaburi), working through its Marine Resources Conservation Division, collaborated with the Marine Protection Volunteer Network and the Hua Hin Fisheries Assn. to carry out on-site work along Hua Hin Beach. Ongoing road improvement works in the Takiab area

Local officials have carried out an on-site inspection of ongoing road-improvement works in the Takiab area, as part of efforts to upgrade road conditions and improve safety for motorists. The project involves applying an asphalt concrete overlay to the Nong Kae–Takiab Road. The resurfacing is scheduled to take place between June 24 and July 3.

Hua Hin installs high-capacity water pumps to help prevent flooding

Hua Hin has begun operating two high-capacity water pumps to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season. The pumps, provided by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (Region 4), are diesel-powered and capable of discharging 31,500 liters of water per minute. They have been installed at two key locations — at the end of the Khlong Takiab canal and near the Huana Reservoir.

According to municipal officials, the pumps are intended to speed up the drainage of water from canals in higher-lying areas, allowing excess rainwater to be channeled into designated catchment zones before being released into the sea. Continued …

A Hua Hin street artist has once again been ordered to remove graffiti from public areas, after city officials received new complaints about unauthorized artwork appearing across the city.

The artist, known as Joe, signed a second memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hua Hin yesterday, agreeing to remove his artwork from seven more locations. This most recent episode marks the second time the artist has been officially reprimanded by the municipality. Continued …

Road safety shock: Pedestrian deaths on the rise

A new report on deaths among footpath users is shocking and unacceptable. On Monday, the Department of Disease Control released its safety report, saying 5,066 pedestrians were killed in accidents from 2015 to 2024, or 506 deaths annually.

The report says 58,705 pedestrians, including 5,870 footpath users, were admitted to hospitals. Major causes of death and injuries vary, led by reckless drivers, substandard footpaths, and obstacles posed by street furniture. Continued …

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. Businesses call for delay in minimum wage hike

The government needs to reconsider its plan to increase the daily minimum wage in Bangkok to 400 baht from July 1, as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) cannot bear additional costs in such a weak economy, which is expected to slow further in the second half of this year, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Bangkok is slated to be added to a list of provinces where the daily minimum wage is 400 baht, a campaign pledge of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. A pilot program in four areas raised the daily minimum wage to 400 baht on Jan. 1 this year. Continued …

New minimum wage could lead to hotel layoffs

Large-scale layoffs in the hotel sector could be seen during this low season if the government agrees to raise the minimum wage to 400 baht from next week as planned, while the Thai Hotels Assn.(THA) has submitted a petition to the prime minister, asking for the policy to be cancelled.

La-iad Bungsrithong, an adviser to the THA board, said that as five-star hotels in Chiang Mai had earlier been mandated with the 400-baht daily minimum wage, they had already felt an impact from the soaring wage costs, which are up 14% from last year. Continued …

The Thai government aims to finalize several new free trade agreements (FTAs) with global partners by 2026, with the deal with South Korea expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Phuket Fines Over 28,000 Foreign Tourists for Traffic Offenses So Far in 2025

Phuket officials have reported that 28,809 foreign tourists have been fined for traffic violations on the island to date in 2025. Russian visitors topped the list with 3,121 cases, followed by tourists from China (1,721), the UK (1,419), France (1,365), and India (1,069).

Since Jan. 1, the police have arrested 369 foreigners for various offenses. These include 87 violations of the Immigration Act, 65 cases of drunk driving, and 27 breaches of the Alien Employment Act. “I followed a traffic policeman on a bike all the way up Soi 88 from town to the one and only set of traffic lights. I thought I’d do a little experiment. In that 8kms, I witnessed him pass 11 people without helmets. Did he do anything, NO! All he seemed interested in was watching the farang in his mirrors 50 meters behind him that he couldn’t do anything about because I was driving legally! New rules! Total BS! Someone needs to get a grip on policeman plod!” – BP

Editor: I guess the good news was that there actually were police doing a patrol. Usually they just stay in their air-conditioned offices until they are called to do something. We have also done a similar experiment, counting 32 people on motorcycles, and only 12 with helmets. All Thais. And yesterday we saw a woman and her three children of various ages on a motorbike. Only the mother had a helmet. Can most Thais even afford helmets for their children, who will outgrow them in short order? Bottom line: Farang need to get used to the double standard. It’s not going to change. We’re guests in this country, so follow the law, even if it does not seem fair.

Thailand Tightens Rules for Foreign Drivers: Tests Now Mandatory

The Hua Hin Jazz Festival is set to return to the beach in front of the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin on Nov. 28 and 29, organizers have confirmed. Hua Hin City municipality has confirmed the completion of the first phase of construction on the “Moon Curve Roundabout”, a project designed to ease long-standing traffic congestion at one of the town’s busiest junctions.

Hua Hin is set to welcome some of the country’s top snooker players next month as the city hosts the “TKC Hua Hin Cup 2025”, a professional-ranking snooker tournament. Raising the daily minimum wage to 400 baht will add pressure to struggling Thai restaurateurs, says the Thai Restaurant Assn. On Tuesday, the national wage committee agreed to increase the daily minimum wage to 400 baht for all workers in Bangkok from July 1.

The 400-baht minimum daily rate also applies to workers in most hotels and entertainment venues nationwide. In general, restaurant operators already pay more than the minimum wage to attract workers, especially Thais, according to the association. The Dutch Association in Thailand is taking action against a plan to sell the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok. The embassy, located at 206 Wireless Road, faces potential sale to local developers as part of a Dutch government cost-cutting initiative. Willem Pentermann, chairman of the association, discovered the plan from De Telegraaf, a Dutch newspaper.

Paisarn Aowsathaporn, senior executive vice president and head of food business (Thailand) at Thai Beverage Public Co. — one of the country’s four leading restaurant operators, with brands such as Shabushi, KFC, Hyde & Seek, and Food Street — said the company is set to reach 888 outlets by the end of this year. He noted that the overall food and beverage industry in Thailand, across all segments, is valued at nearly 700 billion baht and continues to expand in line with economic trends.
