Hua Hin beachside structures face final demolition deadline

Authorities have set a final deadline ofJuly 7 for the demolition of more than 30 beachside buildings in Hua Hin that have been deemed illegal due to encroachment on public coastal land.

The buildings in question include homes, guesthouses, and seafood restaurants, many of which have become familiar fixtures in the area over several decades. They are located along Naresdamri Road, stretching from the Fishing Pier to the Chaomae Tubtim Shrine, a section of Hua Hin’s beachfront long associated with local business and tourism. Continued …

Designated smoking areas set up on Hua Hin Beach

Officials have reinforced the smoking ban on Hua Hin Beach by installing and refurbishing signs at 10 designated smoking areas, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public health and cleanliness along the shoreline.

Yesterday, the Office of Marine and Coastal Resources 3 (Phetchaburi), working through its Marine Resources Conservation Division, collaborated with the Marine Protection Volunteer Network and the Hua Hin Fisheries Assn. to carry out on-site work along Hua Hin Beach. Ongoing road improvement works in the Takiab area

Local officials have carried out an on-site inspection of ongoing road-improvement works in the Takiab area, as part of efforts to upgrade road conditions and improve safety for motorists. The project involves applying an asphalt concrete overlay to the Nong Kae–Takiab Road. The resurfacing is scheduled to take place between June 24 and July 3.

Hua Hin installs high-capacity water pumps to help prevent flooding

Hua Hin has begun operating two high-capacity water pumps to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season. The pumps, provided by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (Region 4), are diesel-powered and capable of discharging 31,500 liters of water per minute. They have been installed at two key locations — at the end of the Khlong Takiab canal and near the Huana Reservoir.

According to municipal officials, the pumps are intended to speed up the drainage of water from canals in higher-lying areas, allowing excess rainwater to be channeled into designated catchment zones before being released into the sea. Continued …

Hua Hin street artist signs second agreement to remove graffiti

A Hua Hin street artist has once again been ordered to remove graffiti from public areas, after city officials received new complaints about unauthorized artwork appearing across the city.

The artist, known as Joe, signed a second memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hua Hin yesterday, agreeing to remove his artwork from seven more locations. This most recent episode marks the second time the artist has been officially reprimanded by the municipality. Continued …

Road safety shock: Pedestrian deaths on the rise

A new report on deaths among footpath users is shocking and unacceptable. On Monday, the Department of Disease Control released its safety report, saying 5,066 pedestrians were killed in accidents from 2015 to 2024, or 506 deaths annually.

The report says 58,705 pedestrians, including 5,870 footpath users, were admitted to hospitals. Major causes of death and injuries vary, led by reckless drivers, substandard footpaths, and obstacles posed by street furniture. Continued …

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. Thailand’s trade deficit with China has widened significantly, reaching 768 billion baht in the first five months of 2025 (January–May) — a sharp increase of over 200 billion baht from the same period last year, according to a report from the Ministry of Commerce.

Thailand car production rises for first time in nearly 2 years

Car production in Thailand rose 10.3% in May from a year earlier, with the first annual rise in 22 months helped by higher pickup truck output for export markets, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) said on  Tuesday.

    • Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

“I followed a traffic policeman on a bike all the way up Soi 88 from town to the one and only set of traffic lights. I thought I’d do a little experiment. In that 8kms, I witnessed him pass 11 people without helmets. Did he do anything, NO! All he seemed interested in was watching the farang in his mirrors 50 meters behind him that he couldn’t do anything about because I was driving legally! New rules! Total BS! Someone needs to get a grip on policeman plod!” – BP

Editor: I guess the good news was that there actually were police doing a patrol. Usually they just stay in their air-conditioned offices until they are called to do something. We have also done a similar experiment, counting 32 people on motorcycles, and only 12 with helmets. All Thais. And yesterday we saw a woman and her three children of various ages on a motorbike. Only the mother had a helmet. Can most Thais even afford helmets for their children, who will outgrow them in short order? Bottom line: Farang need to get used to the double standard. It’s not going to change. We’re guests in this country, so follow the law, even if it does not seem fair.

Thailand Tightens Rules for Foreign Drivers: Tests Now Mandatory

Thailand is set to introduce stricter regulations for foreign nationals seeking to obtain a Thai driver’s license. The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has proposed a draft regulation requiring all foreigners to pass a written test, irrespective of holding a valid international driving permit (IDP).

Thailand’s Grim Motorcycle Death Toll Sparks Helmet Campaign

Thailand’s Department of Disease Control (DDC) has called on all motorcyclists to wear helmets, following a devastating year of road casualties. Over 14,000 people lost their lives in motorcycle accidents across the country in 2024 alone.

(Editor: While wearing helmets when riding a motorcycle is a good idea, the headgear typically used is not the answer to significantly reducing road deaths in Thailand. First, the types of helmets usually used are cheap and break easily, affording very little in the way of safety. The cost of helmets that can actually provide protection is probably more than most Thais can afford. And second, what is needed is driver education programs – required before getting a license. The problems on the roads are reckless and careless driving, not headgear.)

Statistics from three government agencies paint a worrying picture of road safety. From 2020 to 2024, an average of 17,428 people died annually in road traffic incidents, with motorcycles involved in 80% of these fatalities. The figures for 2024 were particularly dire, with 17,447 road deaths recorded, of which 14,144 were linked to motorcycle accidents. On average, this means three people died every two hours. Industry ministry shuts down toxic waste site in Chachoengsao

Thailand logged 65,000 new Covid cases, 3 deaths last week

Thailand recorded 65,880 Covid-19 cases and three deaths in the last week of May but the outbreak was waning from its yearly peak, according to the public health minister. Minister Somsak Thepsuthin said yesterday the new cases and fatalities were recorded from May 25 to 31.

Listed firms see profits rise but sales decline

Two local festivals this weekend

Two beachside festivals featuring local cuisine and live entertainment are set to take place near Hua Hin this weekend.

This case started when the Third Army Region commander, in his capacity as director of Internal Security Operations Command Region 3, had lawyers file a complaint against Chambers accusing him of posting an invitation to attend an online seminar on the topic of transfers and appointments in the Thai military and police, with a reference made to the monarchy. Trump’s tariffs to remain in effect after appeals court grants stay

A federal appeals court temporarily reinstated the most sweeping of President Donald Trump’s tariffs yesterday, a day after a U.S. trade court ruled that Trump had exceeded his authority in imposing the duties and ordered an immediate block on them.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington said it was pausing the lower court’s ruling to consider the government’s appeal, and ordered the plaintiffs in the cases to respond by June 5 and the administration by June 9. Continued …

Thailand is in deeper trouble among its peer group in view of United States President Donald Trump’s tariff offensive. Yet, senior Thai officials appear nonchalant, complacent and smug. They seem to think Thailand will come out of the U.S. tariff war in good shape, as the Trump administration will prove unable to go through with its hefty import duties.

    New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

Faulty Equipment Said to Blame for Helicopter Crash

A senior Royal Thai Police official has confirmed that the recent police helicopter crash in Prachuap Khiri Khan province was caused by mechanical failure, not sabotage or external attack.

Covid Cases Surge to 67,484 in a Single Week

Schools should not be closed to control a seasonal surge of Covid-19, as proper screening and isolation measures are sufficient to limit the virus’s spread within education institutions, says the Department of Disease Control (DDC).

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Two local festivals this weekend

Two beachside festivals featuring local cuisine and live entertainment are set to take place near Hua Hin thiks weekend.

Volunteers Improve Local Temple Road

The Sahaviriya Steel Group organized a community volunteer activity Saturday to improve access to Wang Yao Monastery, located in Bang Saphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. LPG Truck Overturns on Phetkasem Road, Causing 10km Traffic Jam

A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker overturned yesterday morning on Phetkasem Road southbound near Ban Wa Thon, Khlong Wan subdistrict, Prachuap Khiri Khan, blocking traffic and causing a congestion stretch of approximately 10 kilometers.

Covid-19 cases top 53,500 in week, Bangkok most infected

There were 53,563 covid-19 cases reported in Thailand last week, with five deaths, and Bangkok had the most infections, according to the Department of Disease Control. Of the cases, 2,827 were inpatients and 50,736 outpatients.

Patients aged 30-39 years old formed the biggest group, 10,740, followed by 20-29 (9,527), 60 and over (8,107) and 4,117 young children aged up to four years. Continued …

Condo residents fuming – still unable to return 2 months after quake

Residents of a 900-unit condominium in the Chokchai Ruammit area of Bangkokare furious with their juristic person because even though two months have passed since the big earthquake on March 28, they are still unable to live in their homes.

Thailand’s imports from China hit record high amid trade uncertainty and 90-day tariff truce

Thailand’s trade deficit with China has surged to a historic high, with imports soaring during the first four months of 2025, as businesses rush to secure raw materials amid global trade uncertainties, particularly ahead of potential U.S. tariff changes.

    New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm.
