Transport authorities are recommending detours to motorists, as the collapse of a new expressway on Saturday seriously damaged an existing Bangkok-Thon Buri expressway ramp which connects to Rama II Road, a main southbound highway, and its complete reopening will take about a month.

Surachet Laophulsuk, governor of the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT), said near the collapse site yesterday that police expected very heavy traffic congestion in the area today, as the collapse blocked both inbound and outbound traffic on the Chalerm Maha Nakhon expressway ramp near the Dao Khanong toll plaza. Wild Elephant Stranded on Island in Rayong Known for Attacking Locals

Plans Unveiled for 900 Million Overpass Project in Prachuap Khiri Khan

The Department of Highways has revealed plans to build a 3.4-kilometer elevated overpass at the Prachuap Khiri Khan junction, set to improve traffic flow across 14 southern provinces. The project, which carries an estimated cost of 900 million baht, is scheduled to begin later this year.

Yesterday, Prachuap Khiri Khan Gov. Sittichai Sawatsan chaired a meeting to discuss the overpass project, which will be located at the intersection of Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) and Highway 326 (Prachuap Khiri Khan Junction). Hua Hin couple’s assault case still in the courts

There is much, too much, we do not know about the vicious attacks on the Middlesborough couple in Hua Hin, which have dominated the Thai-UK news channels in recent days. Much of the rhetoric has been devoted to criticism of the Thai legal system and the horrors of being British even before a Thai court has had the chance to hear the evidence.

The initial attack on Des and Mary appears to have occurred in December 2023 after a controversy with neighbors (one Thai and one Brit in some reports) about a land border dispute. Presumably the matter has had some adjudication since the violent neighbors, we are told, initially pleaded guilty to serious assault but later – presumably in mid or late 2024 – changed their plea and accused the Middlesborough couple of “superficial injury and mental anguish”. Public polled on power rates

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is asking the public whether they want to continue with the same electricity rate of 4.15 baht per kilowatt-hour (unit), which is the cheapest of three options for the period from May to August. The current power tariff of 4.15 baht a unit is applicable until the end of April.

The other two options are 4.95 baht a unit or 5.16 baht a unit, which would let ERC allocate more money from electricity bills to the reimbursement of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), PTT Plc and gas shippers, which spent money to help the government subsidize power prices. New Don Mueang Airport shuttle links to Hua Hin, Pattaya

A new feeder shuttle bus service, linking Don Mueang International Airport to Hua Hin and Pattaya, is going to make it a whole lot easier for tourists to experience some of Thailand’ most iconic destinations.

The first route zips passengers from Don Mueang Airport straight to Pattaya, spanning a distance of 162 kilometers. The second route forges a path between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin, stretching 216 kilometers. For 200 baht, travelers can enjoy a scenic three-and-a-half-hour ride.

Q1 GDP growth seen at 3.4%

Thailand’s economy is expected to grow 3.4% in the first quarter of 2025 from a year earlier, which would be the fastest pace in 10 quarters, helped by government stimulus measures, a deputy finance minister said today.

Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy is on an upward trend, Paopoom Rojanasakul said on a local television program. 24 million people in Thailand face risks associated with multidimensional poverty

Thailand has made significant progress in reducing poverty, but still faces challenges, as around 24 million citizens remain vulnerable to multidimensional poverty, according to a report from the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC).

While the country has halved its multidimensional poverty rate since 2015, a closer look at the data reveals a more complex situation. Of the 7.17 million Thais classified as poor in 2023, about 4.78 million face multidimensional poverty without financial hardship, 1.04 million experience financial poverty exclusively, and 1.35 million contend with both financial difficulties and quality of life challenges. A cargo ship towing barges carrying cement collided with a coral reef near Koh Talu in Prachuap Khiri Khan, causing severe damage after rough seas led to the failure of its anchor chain.

On Sunday, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) received a report from local conservation networks that a cement cargo ship traveling from Bangkok to Pattani had run into difficulties due to strong winds and rough seas. New bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The new first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin will offer two round trips daily. The fare would be 200 baht each way and would take three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure will be from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

How Often Do Thais Use E-hailing In A Week

E-hailing services are becoming increasingly popular among Thais, with more people relying on them for daily commutes and errands. As urban mobility evolves, Maxim’s analytics team examined user habits in 2024, revealing key insights into ride frequency, preferred services, and spending patterns.

According to the data, 49% of active users book rides twice a week, while 39% use the service once a week. Meanwhile, 10% book between three to six rides weekly, and a small but dedicated 1% use Maxim more than seven times a week. Most rides originate from public spaces, transportation hubs, and workplaces, heading toward residential areas. Regular users often commute across various parts of the city.

Among service options, the car service is used for 53% of rides, making it the most popular. Motorbikes make up 41% of trips because their speed and flexibility make them suited for short journeys in cities. While the remaining 5% consists of other services.

According to the data, 59% spend up to Bt50 per week, 36% spend up to Bt250, and only 13% exceed that amount. On average, users spend approximately Bt108 per week.

Thai economy improved in January, says central bank

Thailand’s economy in January improved from the previous month, driven by tourism and consumption, the central bank reported yesterday. Government measures such as a week-long public transport fare exemption and consumer tax campaign increased consumption, it said, with auto production showing signs of improvement.

Air pollution illnesses in Thailand hit 12.3M in 2024

New bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The new first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin will offer two round trips daily. The fare would be 200 baht each way and would take three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure will be from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.
