Hua Hin marks Loy Krathong

Hua Hin celebrated Loy Krathong last night, with residents gathering at several locations across the city to take part in one of Thailand’s most recognizable annual cultural traditions. This year’s Loy Krathong celebrations in Hua Hin were scaled back following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, but the events continued in a respectful and reflective manner.

At Khao Tao Reservoir, families and groups of friends released krathongs made from natural materials such as banana leaves and bread into the water as part of the long-standing tradition of paying respect to the Goddess of Water and symbolically letting go of misfortune. Similar scenes took place near the Hua Hin fishing pier, as well as at Queen’s Park (Suan Luang Rajini 19 Rai), Khao Noi, Hua Don, Nong Kae and Saphan Khee Lek. Continued …

Everyone’s buzzing about the blood test that detects 50 types of cancer

“No cancer signal detected.” The blood test results popped up in my online health portal without much fanfare. A doctor would chat about them with me later, congratulating me on the “phew”-worthy result.

I took the Galleri multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test about a year ago in 2024 as part of my longevity-focused stay at Canyon Ranch, a luxury wellness retreat in Tucson, Arizona. Bribery probe deepens police credibility crisis

The reputation of the Royal Thai Police (RTP) has suffered a significant blow following a decision by the Police Complaints Review Committee (PCRC) to formally accuse former National Police Chief Torsak Sukvimol and more than 200 police officers of disciplinary misconduct for allegedly accepting bribes from online gambling networks.

Bangkok collects 391,027 krathongs in Loy Krathong festival

Bangkok collected 391,027 krathongs during Loy Krathong, a 24% drop from last year, with most made from natural materials and properly disposed of.

Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, spokesperson for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), reported that all 50 district offices collected krathongs from 110 sites across the city during the Loy Krathong Festival. The cleanup began at 8 pm yesterday and was completed by 5 am today. Continued …

Thailand to Tax All Online Shopping Imports Starting 2026

In a significant policy shift, Thailand’s Customs Department announced today that starting Jan. 1, 2026, all foreign goods sold online will face an import duty if valued at more than 1 baht. This move will end the current exemption for items priced below 1,500 baht, which will expire at the end of this year.

The introduction of this duty, alongside the existing value-added tax (VAT), is predicted to generate at least 3 billion Thai baht annually for the government. The policy change arises from the observation that foreign goods imported through various platforms and priced below 1,500 baht total over 30 billion baht per year. Director-general of the Customs Department, Panthong Loikulnan, stated that failing to collect any duties gives an edge to foreign goods over Thai businesses, impacting local producers, especially SMEs. Thai exports on course for double-digit growth this year

The improving global economy is expected to boost Thai exports by 9.5%-10% this year, higher than previously estimated, but Thailand will not gain significantly from the growth, says the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB). The panel previously projected export growth of 2%-3% for 2025.

Improved international trade was attributed for declining concerns over US tariffs, while new purchase orders arrived for industrial products, said Poj Aramwattananont, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, who chaired a JSCCIB meeting yesterday. Continued … 

Inflation eases for seventh month straight

The headline consumer price index (CPI) decreased by 0.76% year-on-year to 100 in October, marking the seventh straight month of decline, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Nantapong Chiralerspong, director-general of the Ministry of Commerce’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO), attributed the reduction in the rate of inflation to government measures aimed at easing the cost of living, energy price reductions, and decreases in the prices of essential items such as pork, chicken eggs, fresh vegetables, and fresh fruit. EV and PPV boost car production in September, while pickup truck sales decline

Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) reported that in September car production grew by 14% compared to the previous month, driven largely by the increase in electric vehicles (EVs) and pickup passenger vehicles (PPVs). However, pickup truck production declined, impacted by the challenging economic conditions and stricter lending policies.

A total of 128,104 cars were produced in September 2025, reflecting a 14% increase from August and a 4.8% increase from September 2024. This growth is mainly attributed to the increased production of electric passenger vehicles (EVs), which compensate for the reduced imports of EVs into the country in 2023-2024. Thailand’snational parks have collected approximately 2.2 billion baht in entrance and accommodation fees from tourists in fiscal year 2025, announced the chief of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) yesterday.

Atthapol Charoenshunsa, DNP director-general, stated that the revenue from tourists between October 2024 and September 2025 rose by 8.39 million baht, or 0.38%, compared to the same period last year. Foreign tourist arrivals in Thailand from Jan. 1 to Nov. 2 have decreased by 7.2% compared to the same period last year, according to the Tourism and Sports Ministry. The total number of foreign visitors during this period was reported at 26.89 million. Malaysia emerged as the largest source market with 3.88 million visitors, closely followed by China, contributing 3.8 million.

But the plans they handed in “have barely moved the needle” on reducing Earth’s future warming, a new United Nations report finds. A good chunk of that progress is counteracted by the United States’ withdrawal from the effort, the report adds.

A special taskforce from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) has launched an investigation into alleged forest encroachment and destruction in Kaeng Krachan National Park and adjacent state land in Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan. The probe follows reports that investors have cleared forested hillsides and excavated soil in protected zones.

The taskforce is examining claims of land ownership under Nor Sor 3 Kor documents allegedly covering 3,162 rai — 2,016 rai of state property and 1,146 rai within the national park. Man Trampled to Death by Wild Elephant in Phu Wua Forest

A 55-year-old man was found dead after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary in Bueng Kan province. The discovery followed a three-day search after the man was reported missing by his relatives.

Authorities believe he encountered the elephant at close range while collecting forest produce and was trampled to death. Preliminary examinations indicated that the man sustained fatal injuries consistent with being attacked by a wild elephant. The Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command has issued a warning for flash floods, forest runoffs, and flooding across all areas of Prachuap Khiri Khan between Oct. 23-26.

Afternoon alcohol sales ban may be lifted in January

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, has directed government agencies to lift restrictions on alcohol sales and extend nightlife operating hours, in a move expected to boost state revenue by hundreds of billions of baht. The proposal includes abolishing the current zoning system for alcohol sales and allowing entertainment venues to stay open until 4 am.

Anutin instructed the Interior Ministry (MOI) and the Public Health Ministry (MOPH) to work together on revising regulations to permit alcohol sales across the country without zoning limitations. According to reports, Myanmar troops have launched a major crackdown on transnational scam operations in Myawaddy’s notorious KK Park project, long controled by Chinese investors and the Border Guard Force (BGF).

BoT predicts stimulus drives GDP growth in Q4

The Bank of Thailand expects the “Khon La Khrueng Plus” co-payment scheme to help drive GDP growth in the final quarter this year. Scam Gangs Shift Base From Cambodia To Thailand

Scam gangs are allegedly relocating their operations from Cambodia to Thailand after a joint crackdown by South Korean and Cambodian police, according to a report by Sisa Journal. The South Korean magazine’s investigation revealed that the move follows increased law enforcement pressure in Cambodia, with scammers seeking safer ground in neighboring Thailand.

A journalist from Sisa Journal contacted a middle manager of a scam center in Thailand,between Oct. 17- 21.  The manager said that scam operations linked to human trafficking continue without signs of stopping, despite international efforts to dismantle them. Thai construction giant denies links to call center scams

One of Thailand’s leading construction companies, Sino-Thai Engineering & Construction Public Co. (STECON), filed a complaint against two members of Parliament (MPs) from the People’s Party, claiming both accused the company of involvement in a call center scam network.

The United States and United Kingdom recently accused the Prince Holding Group, owned by 32-year-old Chinese-born Chen Zhi, of operating a call center scam in Southeast Asia. The company now faces financial sanctions and asset seizures worth hundreds of billions of baht. Continued …

Deputy Finance Minister Vorapak Tanyawong has been ordered by the prime minister to clarify, in writing, an allegation that he is among seven Thai politicians believed to be connected with Cambodia’s Prince Group, a major transnational scam syndicate named by the US Department of Justice.

A Swiss professor has praised the quality of Hua Hin’s tap water after laboratory tests showed it to be clean and free from impurities, according to Hua Hin city officials.

On Friday, Deputy Mayor Saranphop Eungsasamee, along with Senior Mechanical Engineer Jaroon Chaengsamsi, who heads the Waterworks Division’s production team, and other municipal staff, welcomed Prof. Alexander Frank, a leading expert in quantum optics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), during his visit to the Hua Hin Municipal Water Production Plant. PKK nursing home accused of illegal human trafficking, 10 victims missing

A nursing home in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province has been accused of being involved in an illegal human trafficking scandal, with 10 residents dying and their families trying to find the bodies but unable to find them. An investigation has revealed that hospital staff who conducted the autopsies are suspected of smuggling the bodies to another location.

Thailand Plans Jan 31 House Dissolution, March 29 Election Day

The Thai government has tentatively set January 31st as the date for dissolving the House, aiming to hold a general election on March 29. The plan also includes proposing a new Constitution and conducting a public referendum. These steps are part of the agreement with the opposition People’s Party, promising dissolution after four months in office.

Since the government began its term on Oct.1, the timeline dictates the House must dissolve by the end of January. Following this, the general election should occur within 60 days, making March 29 the proposed date. The passage of the new Constitution needs to be completed by Dec. 20, allowing time for an official referendum on the same day as the election, potentially saving approximately six billion baht by combining the events. Bangkok’s giant sinkhole expanding

The filling of the huge sinkhole on Bangkok’s Samsen Road will require much more sand that earlier thought because it’s getting bigger, according to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority.

The MRTA said yesterday the original sinkhole was 30 meters wide, 30 meters long and 20 meters deep, but had since expanded and was still getting bigger. The initial estimate that about 8,000 cubic meters of sand would be needed to fill it was now not enough. Continued …
