Hua Hin, Mueang Kao Sukhothai, Khlong Thom, and Nan Old City – have been listed in the “2023 Green Destination Top 100 Stories” for showcasing exemplary destination management practices toward a responsible future for tourism.

Good practice stories of Mueang Kao Sukhothai, Khlong Thom (in Krabi), and Nan Old City were submitted by the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA), while the story of Hua Hin (in Prachuap Khiri Khan) was presented by the Hua Hin municipality. Continued …

Thai-Italian Chamber plans November festivities

The Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce (TICC) (TICC) will host a series of events in Hua Hin from Nov. 3-5 under the banner “A long weekend at the Royal Coast Riviera.”

On Friday, Nov. 3, from 6:30-9pm, the Hua Hin Wine Expo will feature special guest speakers and live music at the InterContinental Hua Hin Resort.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, from 11:30 am, there will be a brunch at Banyan Golf Club Hua Hin, followed by a free digestif in Villa Suasana.

On Saturday, Nov. 4, from 6-8:30pm, experience the charm of Italy at Aperitivo Italiano, a networking event at Anantasila Villa by the Sea.

Hua Hin Vikings to defend floorball title Nov 3-5

Heavy rain warning for 31 provinces

Heavy rain and thunderstorms will affect 31 provinces today, with the south likely to see the heaviest downpours.

These areas could see flash flooding and forest run-off, especially near water courses and in low-lying areas. Evacuation of Thais from Israel continues

The sixth batch of Thai citizens evacuated from Israel touched down at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 6.34pm Tuesday on El Al flight LY085, which departed Tel Aviv earlier in the day.

There were 211 passengers on board the flight, 162 of whom had registered for voluntary return with the authorities. The other 49 bought their own tickets. Continued …

Woman applauded for rescuing nearly 100 Thais stranded in Israel war zones

Nongbua Lamphu native, Wiphawadee “Jaem” Vannachai, 40, became an overnight sensation on social media after a clip recording her heroic efforts to rescue Thai workers from Israeli war zones went viral.

The heroic woman, who is also known as “Sister Jaem”, and a younger colleague were seen driving past several Israeli tanks and war-ravaged neighborhoods to pick up Thai workers from camps near the war zone and drop them off in bomb shelters. Continued …

Bangkok’s electric train flat fare drops to 20 baht, ridership soars by 90%

A surge of nearly 90% in ridership was recorded on Bangkok’s Red and Purple electric train lines Monday, following the introduction of a 20-baht flat fare.

The Department of Rail Transport (DRT) source revealed that the number of passengers on both lines escalated to 94,446 on Monday, marking an 86% increase from the previous day. Continued …

State revenue outperforms target by 6.9%

For the first 11 months of fiscal 2023, government revenue exceeded its target by 6.9%, or 153 billion baht, achieving a treasury balance of 300 billion baht at the end of August, said Fiscal Policy Office Director-general Pornchai Thiraveja.

Pornchai said the government collected net revenue of 2.36 trillion baht for the first 11 months of fiscal 2023 (October 2022 to August 2023), an increase of 6.9%, an improvement on 4.9% growth recorded in the same period last year. Continued …

World’s biggest eyewear company opens new plant in Rayong

EssilorLuxottica, the world’s leading eyewear producer, officially opened a new plant in Rayong on Tuesday. The integrated ophthalmic lenses and frames manufacturing plant is part of the company’s 16-billion-baht investment to turn Thailand into its Southeast Asia manufacturing hub. The new factory is expected to create 6,000 jobs.

The Rayong plant is among the largest of EssilorLuxottica Group’s global facilities, chief operating officer Giorgio Striano told a press conference on Monday ahead of the plant’s inauguration. Continued … 

Hotels unable to improve room rates

Hotels in major destinations overall have been unable to improve the average daily room rate during the high season, due to the slow rebound of the mass market, according to the Thai Hotels Assn. (THA).

Sanpech Supabowornsthian, president of THA’s eastern chapter, said hotels in Pattaya and the eastern region previously wanted to offer rooms at the same rate as 2019’s level during the high season after seeing a healthy rebound in international tourism. Continued … 

Rain doesn’t dampen spirits at the Phuket Vegetarian Festival

The Phuket Vegetarian Festival, a grand spectacle of Chinese culture, witnessed another round of street processions today. Despite the heavy downpour, the processions, featuring devotees from the Sapam Shrine and the Bang Khu Shrine, kicked off with fervor.

Thai Air Asia will reduce direct flights from four to twice weekly between Chiang Mai, the gateway city to north Thailand and the beach resort town of Hua Hin on the Gulf of Thailand.

From Chiang Mai, the new schedule switches to two weekly flights (Friday and Sunday), starting Oct. 30. The one-way is around USD78.40 (THB2,846), including fees and tax. Continued …

Petrol prices to drop by 2.50 baht as new year gift

The deputy prime minister and minister of energy announced plans to reduce petrol prices by 2.50 baht per liter as a new year’s gift to the Thai people. The minister, Peeraphan Saleerathaviphak, also revealed the establishment of an official committee to investigate fuel pricing.

Taxes made simple: the story of VAT

According to an announcement made in September covering additional amendments to reducing the value-added tax (VAT) rate as per Article 80 of the Revenue Code, Thailand’s VAT rate was reduced to 6.3% on the sale of goods, provision of services, or imports, effective Oct. 1, 2017, until Sept. 30, 2024.

Weak baht contributes to 350-billion-baht trade deficit

The private sector has expressed concern at the continued weakness of the baht, which has resulted in Thailand’s trade balance being in deficit for eight consecutive months to the tune of 350 billion baht.

According to the Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC)’s Chairman Chaichan Chareonsuk, even though Thai exports have benefited from the weakened baht, reducing the prices of Thai products in line with the currency, it has also increased the costs of importing goods and raw materials needed for production. Thai Air Asia will reduce direct flights from four to twice weekly between Chiang Mai, the gateway city to north Thailand and the beach resort town of Hua Hin on the Gulf of Thailand.

Influenza cases rise five-fold in Thailand

Video: Cobra caught by wildlife handlers

A cobra lurking near a resident’s yard was captured by wildlife handlers in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The terrified homeowner called the snake catchers for assistance on Oct. 7. Gregal, a beachfront Mediterranean restaurant, has opened in Hua Hin. The restaurant is located beside The Royal Princess Condominium Hua Hin. Wine tax in Thailand: A Protectionist Barrier?

Why is wine tax in Thailand 250% on average? In most cases, duties constitute a state’s first protection against products imported from other countries in direct competition with local production.

Does Thailand produce wine? Yes, local production is around one million liters per year and is based in three areas of the country: Loei, Hua Hin and Khao Yai. The projects are relatively recent, and the quality of the wine produced is rather low, with a high price. The national oil and gas conglomerate PTT Plc has agreed to delay accepting payments of 8-9 billion baht for the gas it sells to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to help the government reduce power bills for the rest of this year. Families of those who died in mall shooting to get Bt6.2 million compensation each

The families of the two people who were killed in the Siam Paragon shooting will each receive 6.2 million baht in compensation from the Thai government and the mall’s owners, while the injured will each receive 350,000 baht each.
