Charn Issara eyes luxury condo project in Hua Hin

Charn Issara Development plans to launch six new projects worth a combined 16 billion baht, primarily in the luxury segment across Bangkok, Phuket and Hua Hin, driven by strong demand.

A senior Thai official has admitted that the government deported 40 Uyghur asylum seekers to China last week out of concern about possible retaliation from Beijing if it let the group settle elsewhere.

Higher food prices push February inflation up 1.08%

Headline inflation in Thailand rose by 1.08% year-on-year in February, fueled by price increases for food, especially fresh fruit, food ingredients, and ready-to-eat meals, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.

Thailand’s air pollution crisis has intensified, with PM2.5 levels in 28 provinces, mostly in the north and northeast, exceeding the country’s safety standard, the government’s Center for Air Pollution Mitigation (CAPM) confirmed yesterday.

Among the hardest-hit provinces are Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Nan, Mae Hong Son, Phayao, Lamphun, and Lampang, where PM2.5 concentrations have soared beyond the national safety threshold of 37.5 micrograms per cubic meter of air (µg/m³). Thais Express Discontent with government and PM in New Poll

A recent survey by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) reveals widespread dissatisfaction among Thais regarding the government’s and Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s performance. Conducted late last month, the poll sampled 1,310 people nationwide.

Most Thais deported from Cambodia took jobs in scam centers for high pay

Most of the 119 Thais deported from Cambodia recently are believed to have gone there illegally, to work for scam centers in the Poipet border town. Seven of them are wanted by Thai police, according to the Cybercrime Investigation Bureau (CIB).

All the repatriated Thais had their cell phones seized upon their return to Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo province, which is just across the border from Poipet, suggesting that they were not trafficked to work in the scam centers, but were lured by the attractive remuneration. Continued …

How Often Do Thais Use E-hailing In A Week

E-hailing services are becoming increasingly popular among Thais, with more people relying on them for daily commutes and errands. As urban mobility evolves, Maxim’s analytics team examined user habits in 2024, revealing key insights into ride frequency, preferred services, and spending patterns.

According to the data, 49% of active users book rides twice a week, while 39% use the service once a week. Meanwhile, 10% book between three to six rides weekly, and a small but dedicated 1% use Maxim more than seven times a week. Most rides originate from public spaces, transportation hubs, and workplaces, heading toward residential areas. Regular users often commute across various parts of the city.

Among service options, the car service is used for 53% of rides, making it the most popular. Motorbikes make up 41% of trips because their speed and flexibility make them suited for short journeys in cities. While the remaining 5% consists of other services.

According to the data, 59% spend up to Bt50 per week, 36% spend up to Bt250, and only 13% exceed that amount. On average, users spend approximately Bt108 per week.

Thai economy improved in January, says central bank

Thailand’s economy in January improved from the previous month, driven by tourism and consumption, the central bank reported yesterday. New 1st-class bus service from Bangkok airports to Hua Hin, Pattaya

State-run Transport Co. will launch a first-class bus service from Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports to Hua Hin and Pattaya on March 8.

There will be two round trips daily between Don Mueang airport and Hua Hin district in Prachuap Khiri Khan, a distance of 216 kilometers per trip. The fare would be 200 baht each way and would take three-and-a-half hours. Continued …

Thailand Faces Surge in Influenza: 100,000 Cases, 9 Deaths

Thailand is grappling with a serious influenza outbreak, having witnessed nearly 100,000 infections alongside nine fatalities in just 15 days. Cyber Police in about-face on scam workers: Most were trafficked

The cyber police said most of the 260 scam workers who have been screened are victims, with only two to three having volunteered to work for the call-center criminals rather just one of them being trafficked as earlier stated.

The head of the Technology Crime Suppression Division police, said 50 cyber policemen are working with frontline agencies in collecting information on criminal activities of these call-center gangs. They are also checking information on mobile phones and other electronic devices of the 260 scam workers who crossed over from Myanmar’s Myawaddy township to Phop Phra district of Tak province. Efforts Continue to Lift Alcohol Ban on Thai Trains

A minivan traveling downhill collided with an elephant crossing the road in Chonburi province early yesterday morning, leaving two people injured. The elephant initially walked away from the scene but was later found dead.

New Casino Rules May Bar Thais Without $1.5M Fixed Deposits

Thai casino bill scrutiny concluded

The Council of State, the government’s legal advisory body, has completed its scrutiny of the Entertainment Complex Bill, and an online public hearing will be held until March 1 so that parties can express their concerns before it is sent to Parliament.

Thailand’s Economy Set for 2.8% Growth in 2025, NESDC Projects

Thailand’s National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) forecasts the country’s economy to expand by 2.8% in 2025, supported by rising government spending and tourism recovery.

Danucha Pichayanan, NESDC secretary-general, reported yesterday that Thailand’s economy grew 3.2% in Q4/2024, bringing the full-year growth to 2.5%, up from 2% in 2023. Police in Cha am detained over 100 Myanmar migrant workers found crammed into the back of a six-wheeled truck.

The driver confessed to transporting the workers from Damnoen Saduak district to a destination in the south. Endangered Leopard Cat Cub Rescued from Roadside in Lampang After Fleeing Wildfire

Officials from the Wiang Kosai National Park rescue team have successfully rescued a male leopard cat found collapsed at the side of the road, believed to have fled from a nearby wildfire. The team discovered the exhausted young leopard cat cub lying near the road leading to the Lam Huai Samai Luang forest, just outside the park’s protected area. Measures being advanced to restructure nine target industries

Industry restructuring is a key engine for driving the country’s economy, particularly in boosting the national GDP. For this reason, the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE) is advancing measures to restructure nine target industries as part of the policy “Industrial Reform for a Modern, Clean, Convenient, and Transparent Economy”, aiming to increase gross domestic product by at least 1%.

The plan is expected to be presented to the Cabinet this month. The nine target industries for restructuring and boosting GDP are: Automotive industry; plastics industry; medical device industry; steel and metallurgy industry; robotics and automation industry; electrical and electronics industry; bio-based industry; food industry; and textile and garment industry. ThaiBev’s liquor earnings drop 12% in 1st quarter of 2025 accounting year

ThaiBev’s revenue rose by 2.2% in Q1 of the 2025 accounting year, reaching 92.265 billion baht. However, liquor earnings dropped by 12%, while beer and non-alcoholic beverages saw growth. EBITDA fell slightly by 0.8%.

ThaiBev stated that its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) from liquor products for October to December 2024 — the first quarter of the 2025 accounting year (October 2024 to September 2025) — stood at 7.949 billion baht, representing a 12% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. Thailand May Ease Overseas Income Tax Rules Amid Global Changes

In a move that could significantly impact expatriates and Thai nationals alike, Thailand’s government is contemplating adjustments to the taxation of overseas income. Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira has indicated that the global economic landscape necessitates a re-evaluation of current tax regulations, though specific details were not provided.

Presently, the Thai Revenue Department (TRD) stipulates that, effective Jan. 1, 2024, any assessable income transferred into Thailand from abroad by either Thai citizens or foreigners residing in Thailand for at least 180 days within a calendar year will be subject to personal income tax. Wildfires rage across northern Thailand

The north of Thailand is grappling with a surge in wildfires, with 401 hotspots detected across 17 provinces, the Region 3 Forest Fire Control Center said. Phetchabun province has been particularly affected, registering 82 hotspots – the highest in the region – with fires spreading across almost the entire province.

The latest data released Thursday reveals the scale of the crisis. While specific data for other provinces was unavailable as of press time, Phetchabun’s 82 hotspots are of significant concern. Thai Airasia has updated its flight schedule between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday):

Hua Hin to Chiang Mai: Departure 5:15pm, Arrival at 6:30pm

Chiang Mai to Hua Hin: Departure 3:25pm, arrival at 4:45pm

Vans and minibuses provide services to the following destinations:

  • Hua Hin – Kanchanaburi (085-822-6063)
  • Hua Hin – New southern line service starts at 5:40
  • Hua Hin – Rangsit (090-138-0427) service starts at 05:40
  • Hua Hin – Nakhon Pathom (088-709-2364)
