Hotel Worker Dies in Motorbike Crash in Prachuap Khiri Khan

Gunshot wound, infection kill Kui Buri elephant

A wild elephant believed to be between 50 and 60 years old has died after becoming trapped in a muddy waterhole in Kui Buri National Park. Authorities later discovered a bullet embedded in the animal’s body and signs of a severe internal infection, possibly contributing to its death.

Anuchart Art-han, head of Kui Buri National Park, reported that on Saturday, a concerned local resident notified park officials after spotting the elephant stuck in a muddy pool near Ban Ruam Thai, Moo 7, Hat Kham subdistrict, Kui Buri District. Extreme heat forecast across Thailand

A low-pressure heat cell is covering the upper northeast of Thailand and Laos, bringing hot to very hot conditions during the day, while the prevailing southerly and southwesterly winds bring isolated thundershowers and gusty winds, the Thai Meteorological Department forecast today.

400 million baht for new Rama 2 parallel route construction

Two more bodies recovered as death toll of collapsed building rises to 51

Two more bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed 30-story building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, bringing the death toll to 51, a rescue official confirmed yesterday. As of yesterday morning, 43 individuals were still missing.

According to the rescue official, the first body was recovered from under the rubble in Zone C at around 8:20 pm through digging and concrete cutting. The second body was found beneath the debris in Zone B and was successfully recovered at around 9:37 pm. Continued …

Stores urged to keep pork prices stable

The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) is encouraging retail and wholesale stores to keep pork prices stable, despite recent increases driven by a decline in supply.

Wittayakorn Maneenetr, director-general of the DIT, said consultations with the Department of Livestock Development and the Swine Raisers Association of Thailand revealed reduced availability of pigs in the market. Surat Thani School Stunned by Massive King Cobra

Residents of Don Sak, Surat Thani, were shocked to find a massive king cobra roaming outside Baan Nang Kam Community School yesterday. Local rescue teams who captured the snake without incident. Snapshots of the rescue effort showed the snake, locally known as a bong la, gliding across the road. Upon successful capture, the giant king cobra was safely released into a remote forest. Fires pollute Mae Hong Son, 61 hotspots detected

Mae Hong Son was blanketed by unhealthy ultra-fine dust yesterday as wildfires continued to spread across the northern province, with 61 live hotspots detected.

The Region 3 Forest Fire and Dust Control Center said 101 hotpots were detected across 17 northern provinces yesterday. Mae Hong Son had the highest number, 61, followed by Chang Mai, 19, and Tak, 5. Continued …

Fire guts Chiang Mai’s Lanna-style Dhara Dhevi Hotel

A fire destroyed the debt-burdened Lanna-style Dhara Dhevi Hotel in Muang district early this morning. There were no casualties. Dozens of fire crews and engines responded. It took them three hours to control the blaze at the famous hotel in tambon Tha Sala.

Remains of 18 more people recovered from collapsed SAO building

Search teams found partial remains of what are believed to be 18 people under the debris of the collapsed SAO building during yesterday and overnight, said Suriyachai Rawiwan, director of the Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). All the remains were have been taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for identification.

Deputy Bangkok Gov. Tavida Kamolvej says that the BMA sought help from the Thai Embassy in Myanmar, by collecting DNA samples from relatives of missing Myanmar nationals, to be used in the identification process, adding that 97 sets of DNA have been collected so far. – thaipbs.com

DSI Arrests Chinese Tycoon Linked to Collapsed Government Building

Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has arrested a prominent Chinese businessman in connection with an alleged nominee shareholding arrangement linked to the collapsed 30-story State Audit Office building, which was under construction by China Railway No. 10 (Thailand) Co.

Chuanling Zhang, a key shareholder and director of the company, was apprehended at a luxury hotel in Bangkok’s Ratchadaphisek area after being under surveillance for two days. He was taken into custody following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Criminal Court under Sections 37 and 41 of the Foreign Business Act B.E. 2542 (1999), which prohibits foreign nationals from using Thai nominees to circumvent business ownership restrictions. Seven earthquakes were recorded in Mae Hong Son and along the Myanmar border this morning, according to the Thai Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation Division.

The timing could hardly have been less propitious. Just as the world economy was showing signs of stabilizing, the odds of a policy-induced global recession have risen significantly. The latest update to the Brookings-FT Tiger index reveals a mixed picture, with the financial index declining and private-sector confidence crumbling, even as macroeconomic data (which lag the other indicators) suggest a more benign scenario.

Obviously, the biggest factor is U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policy, which has disrupted world trade and fueled turmoil in financial markets, undermining growth prospects that had looked promising at the start of the year. The U.S. economy performed well in the first quarter of 2025: output and employment grew robustly through March, and inflation fell gradually. The “seven dangerous days” of traveling on the road for this year’s Songkran holidays ended on Thursday, with the accumulated death toll reaching 253, a 12% decline from the same period last year.

The Road Safety Operation Center reported yesterday there were 147 traffic accidents, 145 injuries and 22 deaths on the last day of the period. This led to a total of 1,538 accidents and 1,495 injuries recorded between April 11 and April 17. Continued …

The rescue mission unfolded after Sanjeeve Kumar, an Indian resident in Bangkok, approached Yannawa Police Station on April 16 to report the abduction of his friends, Ramesh Sharmar and Amandeep Kajal.

Kumar recounted that upon arriving in Bangkok on April 5, he, Sharmar, and Kajal initially stayed at a hotel in Sathon before moving to Silom. Songkran road toll 171, mainly from speeding and drink-driving

Traffic accidents killed 171 people and injured 1,208 others during the first five days of the Songkran holiday, as of Tuesday night. Officials reported yesterday that from April 11-15 there were 1,216 reported traffic accidents nationwide in which 171 people were killed and 1,208 others were injured.

The southern province of Phatthalung reported the highest number of accidents, 44, Bangkok the most traffic accident fatalities, 15, and the northern province of Lampang the most road injuries, 47. Continued …

Twelve mild earthquakes were recorded in Myanmar and northern Thailand today, with magnitudes ranging from 1.6 to 3.5, according to the Thai Meteorological Department. The Earthquake Observation Division of the department stated that two of these earthquakes occurred in Thailand.

Every year from April 13-15, Thais across the country cool off and celebrate new beginnings with what is arguably the nation’s largest and most important festival: Songkran. Tied to the Thai New Year and the close of the annual rice harvest season, this annual celebration is all about purification, honoring elders and fostering a sense of renewal. However, it’s most well-known among travelers as a raucous country-wide splash fest.

“Why is everyone carrying those guns?” This seemingly valid question was asked during an episode of season three of “The White Lotus” by Kate (Leslie Bibb), one of three women in Thailand on a girls’ trip together — but who don’t appear to actually like each other.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) has warned about summer storms during the Songkran festival. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and potential hail are expected, especially in the upper northeastern and northern regions. From April 10 to 12, increased rainfall is anticipated in the south.

Radar Detects Potential Survivor in Collapsed Bangkok Building

Rescue workers from the Phetkasem Foundation have reported a significant breakthrough at the site of the collapsed Auditor General’s Office building. They detected a mobile phone signal emanating from beneath the debris and subsequent radar scans have located what appears to be a human body approximately three meters below the surface, with rescuers estimating a 90% likelihood that the individual is alive.

Snake handler rescues Satun family from giant king cobras

A renowned snake handler was called to assist a rubber plantation family in Satun province after discovering a pair of giant king cobras had made a nest and laid 29 eggs near their plantation. The presence of these snakes had halted rubber-tapping activities for the family residing in Palm Pattana subdistrict, Manang district, since March.

Snake handler Bang Ya Bongla King was initially unable to assist due to his observance of Ramadan, but he promptly traveled to the site after the fasting month ended. Thailand’s ‘second’ tiger population stable, but barriers to expansion persist

Populations of the critically endangered Indochinese tigers in eastern Thailand’s forest reserves remained stable between 2018 and 2021, but a shortage of prey and the presence of highways prevented their expansion to promising habitat, a recent study has found.

Scientists have been monitoring Indochinese tiger (Panthera tigris corbetti) populations across the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai forest complex since 2008. Thailand Requires Digital Arrival Card Submission 3 Days Before Entry

Starting May 1, foreign visitors heading to Thailand must fill in an online arrival card before their trip, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) website, created by the Immigration Bureau, is ready to capture essential traveler details. Smart app versions on Android and iOS will soon be available to make the process even smoother.

Diplomatic workers, some international organization members, and foreign officials in Thailand are exempt. This digital shift replaces the TM6 paper card, which was discontinued last year. Thailand welcomes 9.55 million foreign tourists in Q1, Chinese remain no.1

Malaysia firm wins chilled water plant project for Hua Hin’s Centara

KJTS Group Bhd’s subsidiary in Thailand, KJTN Engineering Co., has been appointed the contractor by Central Hua Hin Beach Resort Co. for the chilled water plant improvement project at the five-star Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin.

KJTS said the contract came under a finance, retrofit, operation, , and transfer (ROT) scheme for a duration of 20 years. Under the deal, KJTN Engineering shall finance the retrofit works amounting to Bt194.98mil for Phase 1, and Bt15.52mil for Phase 2. Continued …

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) says thunderstorms are set to drench 48 provinces, including Bangkok. With heavy downpours predicted to soak 40% of the area, residents are warned of wild winds and the possibility of hail in some spots.

Former Engineering Institute of Thailand president Tortrakul Yamnak has pointed out a severe construction flaw in buildings across Bangkok and Chiang Mai after a massive earthquake hit on March 28. The root of the issue? Columns that haven’t been reinforced with steel.

Tortrakul illustrates that many tall buildings, some even eight stories high, showcase dangerous damage — not just superficial plaster cracks but real structural threats. Thai Authorities Order Closure of 55 Buildings Post-Quake

Following a recent earthquake, Thai authorities have inspected over 6,900 buildings across Bangkok and the provinces, with 55 structures deemed too damaged to use and subsequently closed. The Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning led the assessment alongside engineering bodies.

Death toll rises to 20 as three more bodies recovered

Three more bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed 30-story building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, bringing the death toll to 20, a rescue official confirmed today. As of this morning, 77 individuals remain missing.

Tremors Shake Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son

Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son districts were rocked by 16 minor tremors this morning. These little shakes, measuring 1.9 to 3.8 on the Richter scale, were most prominent in Wiang Haeng, Chiang Mai, and Pai, Mae Hong Son. Though many went unnoticed, a few larger ones made their presence felt among residents.

The Earthquake Observation Division reported that the tremors began early, from 4:22 am, and continued sporadically until 10:57 am. The majority — 10 quakes — were located in Saen Hai, Wiang Haeng, with magnitudes ranging from 1.9 to 3.5. Members of the K9 USAR THAILAND rescue team yesterday bid farewell to the families of the victims of the collapsed building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, after participating in the search and rescue mission for 10 days.

After working for 10 days straight, team members and dogs will take a short break before embarking on the next mission, said Alongkot Chukaew, deputy director of K9 USAR THAILAND. Cat lovers eager to adopt small feline found alive in collapsed highrise

Cat lovers have flocked to a pet clinic’s Facebook page, all hoping to adopt a small ca  found alive by a sniffer dog amid the devastation of the collapsed State Audit Office building. The Wipawadee Pet Clinic announced yesterday it was looking for a new home for the young female, aged about two months.

Russian Woman Plunges to Her Death from 14th Floor Condo in Pattaya

A 26-year-old Russian woman has died after falling from the 14th floor of a condominium in the Na Kluea area of Bang Lamung, Chonburi province. The incident, which occurred at around 4 pm yesterday, is being treated as suspicious, and local police have launched a full investigation.

Initial investigations revealed that the deceased had been living alone in a room on the 14th floor of the 40-story building. 72% of Thais expect to travel during Songkran

China Defends Companies Behind Bangkok Building Collapse

The Chinese embassy has implored against defaming Chinese firms following the collapse of an unfinished State Audit building during last week’s earthquake in Bangkok. The contractor, ITD-CREC, is a joint venture between Italian-Thai Development Plc and China’s Railway Number 10 Engineering Group, with the latter holding a 49% stake.

Chatuchak rescuers daunted after frantic work to extract 40,000 tons of rubble

Bangkok Gov. Chadchart Sittipunt gave two updates to the press yesterday, both contained devastating news. He said that despite excavating 40,000 tons of rubble from a spot where a voice was heard yesterday, teams were still confronted by insurmountable obstacles. Indeed, he said that experts have suggested it may take 30-60 days to completely excavate the structure.

In the meantime, the rescue leadership has sought help from Japan to try to find some new technology to address the daunting challenges teams face. Several quakes reported in Myanmar

A total of eight earthquakes were recorded in Myanmar from midnight yesterday to 9 am today, according to the Thai Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation Division. The earthquakes ranged from 1.7 to 3.8 in magnitude, with depths of 3 to 10 kilometers, and epicenters located 353 to 40 kilometers to the northeast of Mae Hong Son province, the division said.

Thailand’s Cell Broadcast (CB) system is ready to send notifications to Thai citizens and foreign tourists in the event of natural disasters, relevant agencies confirmed. Two Monks Electrocuted While Preparing for Songkran Festival in Buriram

Yesterday at Wat Pho Yoi in Ban Yang subdistrict, Lam Plai Mat District, Buriram Province, three monks received electric shocks while helping to set up decorations for an upcoming Songkran celebration. Two monks lost their lives, and one was injured.

The monks were working with local villagers to erect bamboo poles intended to hold decorative flags and lighting around the temple’s floating pavilion. Eyewitnesses say the incident happened when a bamboo pole came into contact with a high-voltage power line. The pole, which may have still been damp from residual moisture and conducted electricity. Inflation moves higher for 12th straight month in March

Headline inflation rose by 0.84% year-on-year in March, marking the 12th consecutive monthly uptick, according to the Commerce Ministry. The increase was driven by rising prices of non-alcoholic beverages, meat, and ready-to-eat meals, along with increases in diesel fuel and housing rental costs.

Thai Households Spending Over Bt20,000 Monthly, Driven by Rent and Transport Costs

Thai households are spending an average of 21,027 baht (approximately $US 615.54) per month, with rent and transportation costs consuming the largest portion of their budgets, according to the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO).

Data from the TPSO’s Economic and Trade Index Division reveals that non-food and non-alcoholic beverage expenses accounted for a substantial 60.9% of average monthly household spending. 6 Foreign Tourists Injured as Tour Bus Skids Off Highway in Surat Thani

A tour bus crashed yesterdayin Surat Thani, which left six foreign tourists injured while en route to Koh Samui. The crash occurred  along Southern Seaboard Highway 44 in the Phra Saeng district. The bus, operated by Rittichai Tourism, had departed from Ao Nang in Krabi and was heading toward the island destination when it veered off the road, reportedly due to wet surface conditions.

For 55 years, an elephant named Tiny spent his days with chains wrapped around his body, hauling heavy logs through the woods of Thailand. “From sun up, to sun down, seven days a week, his job was to pull trees behind him,” Aaron, a rescuer from Planting Peace, said.

Torrential rain expected through Friday

People in southern provinces are warned of torrenrial rain starting forecast to continue until Friday, with the risk of flash flooding. The easterly wind moving through the Gulf of Thailand, the south, and the Andaman Sea is bringing more rain to southern provinces, the Meteorological Department reported today.

The warning especially applies to these provinces – Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, Satun, Phetchaburi, Ranong and Phuket. Continued …

Thailand’s weather chiefs have issued a dire warning as a monster storm threatens to drench the nation. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) sounded the alarm today, forecasting torrential downpours and fierce winds across 30 provinces, including Bangkok.

Rescue officials this morning used a crane basket to recover the body of a female worker from the rubble of the collapsed 30-story building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, following Friday’s earthquake in Myanmar.

A scanner has detected 70 signs that could be missing people deep inside the rubble of the collapsed State Audit Office building in Bangkok. As many as 264 aftershocks had been recorded by today following the initial earthquake in Myanmar, said the Thai Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation Division. The report followed an 8.2-magnitude earthquake centered in Mandalay last Friday, impacting both Myanmar and Thailand.

Speedboat Fire Off Phuket Coast Injures three

A speedboat caught fire in the waters off Phuket while carrying 37 people, including 33 Russian and Kazakhstan tourists, one tour guide, and three crew members. Tigress and cubs spotted in Tak sanctuary

A tigress and two cubs were recently photographed in Tak’s Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary, the latest sign of progress in Thailand’s efforts to preserve the threatened species, especially in the Western Forest Complex.

The rare sighting was caught by an automatic camera trap. The tigress, codenamed F22, and two cubs aged 4-6 months, were filmed on the night of Feb 15-16, together and apparently in good health. Tigers, which are threatened with extinction, were showing signs of repopulation. Pattaya officials confirm Koh Larn waste incinerator set for late May launch

Mayor Poramet Ngampichet visited Koh Larn to inspect the progress of the island’s waste incineration project yesterday. The inspection focused on the construction of the incinerator facility and the installation of machinery, which is now nearly 80% complete — according to schedule.

Authorities anticipate that the facility will be operational by late May. The new waste-to-energy incinerator will have a capacity to process up to 50 tons of waste daily, including both newly generated and accumulated waste, which currently exceeds 50,000 tons on the island.
