Hua Hin seeks Bt405 million to support public services and water infrastructure

Hua Hin City has submitted a funding request totalling 405,957,500 baht to the Subcommittee on Local Administration, with the aim of supporting core public services and improving local water infrastructure.

On Friday, Mator Nopporn Wutthikul, joined by Jeerawat Prammanee, Hua Hin City permanent secretary, Kanokwan Sriaroon, director of the Strategy and Budget Division, and other municipal officials, attended a session at the Parliament Building in Bangkok to present the city’s funding proposal. Singkhon border crossing reopened

Trade and tourism have picked up at the Singkhon border market in Prachuap Khiri Khan following the reopening of the crossing between Thailand and Myanmar.

Yesterday, the Singkhon Special Border Pass in Khlong Wan, Mueang District, saw a marked increase in activity, particularly over the weekend. Hua Hin to host snooker tournament starting today

Hua Hin is set to welcome some of the country’s top snooker players as the city hosts the “TKC Hua Hin Cup 2025”, a professional-ranking snooker tournament. The event, officially the sixth in the 2025 Division 1 professional-ranking snooker series, will be held from July 7-12 at the Hua Hin Grand Hotel & Plaza.

Police Officer Shot Dead in Yala, Car Torched in Narathiwat

Incidents occurred in deep south on Saturday, with a police officer shot dead in Yala and a suspected car bomb vehicle torched in Narathiwat, amid mounting fears of escalating unrest in the region.

Sgt. Thanyathep Sikkhachan, a traffic police officer from Krong Pinang Police Station, was fatally shot outside a convenience store in Yala province. Thailand to offer US more trade concessions to avert 36% tariff

The U.S. has threatened to impose a 36% levy on imports from Thailand if a reduction cannot be negotiated before July 9, when a 90-day pause capping tariffs at a baseline of 10% for most nations expires.

Thailand is pushing for a best-case rate of 10%, Pichai said in an interview, adding that even a range of between 10% and 20% would be acceptable. Pichai expects to submit the revised offer before July 9, the report said. Continued …

NESDC revises GDP forecast

Data reveals who’s really powering Pattaya tourism

While Pattaya’s image as a European holiday haven still lingers in the local imagination, hard data from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports shows a different reality. The city’s tourism survival in 2025 is increasingly thanks to its Asian neighbors — not long-haul European visitors.

During the first half of 2025, a total of 16,685,466 international tourists entered Thailand. That figure marks a 4.66% decline compared to the same period last year. Prachuap Khiri Khan is stepping up its efforts to reintegrate children and young people who have dropped out of the education system, as part of the province’s “Zero Dropout” initiative.

‘Moderately Serious’ Arsenic Levels Found in Kok River

Hua Hin is set to welcome some of the country’s top snooker players beginning Monday as the city hosts the “TKC Hua Hin Cup 2025”, a professional-ranking snooker tournament. World Bank cuts Thailand’s 2025 GDP growth forecast to 1.8%

Sea around Phayam Island now a protected zone

The sea around Phayam Island, in the Andaman Sea off the southern province of Ranong, covering a total of 240 hectares, has been declared a protected zone, in which all kinds of water sports and fishing activities, garbage dumping, and discharge of waste water are banned.

According to Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Chalermchai Srion, the declaration of the protected zone, which came into effect on July 1, is an important step in the protection of coastal species in the sea around the island, including corals, sea fans, sea grass, and other exotic marine species. Thai PM suspended

Thailand’s Constitutional Court has suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from her duties pending a ruling on whether she breached ethical standards in violation of the constitution, following a controversial phone call with Cambodia’s former leader, Hun Sen.

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit will become the acting prime minister and will lead the new Cabinet at the oath-taking ceremony before His Majesty the King tomorrow.

An informed government source pointed out that Phumtham Wechayachai should have been the first in line to stand in for Paetongtarn as the acting prime minister during her suspension, had it not been for a legal technicality in the new Cabinet line-up rules, which means that Phumtham’s posts as deputy prime minister and defense minister have ended and he is yet to be formally reinstated as deputy prime minister and interior minister. Revision of alcohol sales ban from 2-5 pm under review

The Ministry of Public Health expects scrutiny of a new bill containing a series of amendments to the Alcohol Control Act 2008 to be completed later this month, says Minister Somsak Thepsutin. The legislation will get rid of outdated military-era sales restrictions and ease curbs on advertising, but will also introduce some stricter regulations.

The law will also formally repeal National Peace Keeping Council Order No 253, dating back to 1972, which sets the legal hours for alcohol sales, currently 11am to 2pm and 5pm to midnight. Continued …

Snakes on a plane, again: India foils third Thailand wildlife smuggling attempt this month

Indian customs officers in Mumbai said they have stopped a plane passenger arriving from Thailand with a wriggling cargo of live snakes, the third such seizure this month. The passenger, who arrived on Sunday, has been arrested, the customs agency said, with “further investigation underway”.

The live snakes included reptiles often sold in the pet trade, and were largely non-venomous, or with venom too weak to affect people. In early June, customs officers stopped a passenger smuggling dozens of venomous vipers, also arriving from Thailand. Road work on Soi 94 still in turmoil

Hua Hin City has held an urgent meeting in a bid to speed up the delayed construction of Soi 94, a key road project that has caused months of disruption for local residents and businesses.

The meeting was called to address ongoing delays in the project, which involves resurfacing a 500-meter stretch of Soi 94 with reinforced concrete and installing an upgraded drainage system. The project, which began on July 22, 2024, was initially due for completion in February 2025 but was halted after underground utility issues and soil subsidence required a full revision of the construction plans. Gulf hits renewable target 5 years early

Gulf Development, Thailand’s largest energy company by market value and a telecom operator, has achieved its target to increase its renewable power proportion to 40% of total electricity generation capacity following a recent investment in solar farms. Editor: A “promenade” is in the plans. However, legal action by the affected businesses is a possibility, delaying any demolition and possible “improvements” perhaps by years.

Patong Beach gets bomb squad and sniffer dogs for tourist safety

Phuket officials are ramping up security in one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations after a safety inspection at Patong Beach, aimed at reassuring tourists and locals. On Wednesday, a bomb scare was averted thanks to the swift action of local police, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units, and specially trained sniffer dogs.

Authorities in Phang Nga were placed on high alert after a suspected explosive device was discovered yesterday near the perimeter fence of the provincial governor’s residence. Hua Hin beachside structures face final demolition deadline

Authorities have set a final deadline ofJuly 7 for the demolition of more than 30 beachside buildings in Hua Hin that have been deemed illegal due to encroachment on public coastal land.

The buildings in question include homes, guesthouses, and seafood restaurants, many of which have become familiar fixtures in the area over several decades. They are located along Naresdamri Road, stretching from the Fishing Pier to the Chaomae Tubtim Shrine, a section of Hua Hin’s beachfront long associated with local business and tourism. Continued …

Designated smoking areas set up on Hua Hin Beach

Officials have reinforced the smoking ban on Hua Hin Beach by installing and refurbishing signs at 10 designated smoking areas, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public health and cleanliness along the shoreline.

Yesterday, the Office of Marine and Coastal Resources 3 (Phetchaburi), working through its Marine Resources Conservation Division, collaborated with the Marine Protection Volunteer Network and the Hua Hin Fisheries Assn. to carry out on-site work along Hua Hin Beach. Ongoing road improvement works in the Takiab area

Local officials have carried out an on-site inspection of ongoing road-improvement works in the Takiab area, as part of efforts to upgrade road conditions and improve safety for motorists. The project involves applying an asphalt concrete overlay to the Nong Kae–Takiab Road. The resurfacing is scheduled to take place between June 24 and July 3.

Hua Hin installs high-capacity water pumps to help prevent flooding

Hua Hin has begun operating two high-capacity water pumps to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season. The pumps, provided by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (Region 4), are diesel-powered and capable of discharging 31,500 liters of water per minute. They have been installed at two key locations — at the end of the Khlong Takiab canal and near the Huana Reservoir.

According to municipal officials, the pumps are intended to speed up the drainage of water from canals in higher-lying areas, allowing excess rainwater to be channeled into designated catchment zones before being released into the sea. Continued …

Hua Hin street artist signs second agreement to remove graffiti

A Hua Hin street artist has once again been ordered to remove graffiti from public areas, after city officials received new complaints about unauthorized artwork appearing across the city.

The artist, known as Joe, signed a second memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Hua Hin yesterday, agreeing to remove his artwork from seven more locations. This most recent episode marks the second time the artist has been officially reprimanded by the municipality. Continued …

Road safety shock: Pedestrian deaths on the rise

A new report on deaths among footpath users is shocking and unacceptable. On Monday, the Department of Disease Control released its safety report, saying 5,066 pedestrians were killed in accidents from 2015 to 2024, or 506 deaths annually.

The report says 58,705 pedestrians, including 5,870 footpath users, were admitted to hospitals. Major causes of death and injuries vary, led by reckless drivers, substandard footpaths, and obstacles posed by street furniture. Continued …

Businesses call for delay in minimum wage hike

The government needs to reconsider its plan to increase the daily minimum wage in Bangkok to 400 baht from July 1, as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) cannot bear additional costs in such a weak economy, which is expected to slow further in the second half of this year, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Bangkok is slated to be added to a list of provinces where the daily minimum wage is 400 baht, a campaign pledge of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. A pilot program in four areas raised the daily minimum wage to 400 baht on Jan. 1 this year. Continued …

New minimum wage could lead to hotel layoffs

Large-scale layoffs in the hotel sector could be seen during this low season if the government agrees to raise the minimum wage to 400 baht from next week as planned, while the Thai Hotels Assn.(THA) has submitted a petition to the prime minister, asking for the policy to be cancelled.

La-iad Bungsrithong, an adviser to the THA board, said that as five-star hotels in Chiang Mai had earlier been mandated with the 400-baht daily minimum wage, they had already felt an impact from the soaring wage costs, which are up 14% from last year. Continued …

The Thai government aims to finalize several new free trade agreements (FTAs) with global partners by 2026, with the deal with South Korea expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Phuket Fines Over 28,000 Foreign Tourists for Traffic Offenses So Far in 2025

Phuket officials have reported that 28,809 foreign tourists have been fined for traffic violations on the island to date in 2025. Russian visitors topped the list with 3,121 cases, followed by tourists from China (1,721), the UK (1,419), France (1,365), and India (1,069).

Since Jan. 1, the police have arrested 369 foreigners for various offenses. These include 87 violations of the Immigration Act, 65 cases of drunk driving, and 27 breaches of the Alien Employment Act. 8-point policy to transform Hua Hin into a more liveable city

Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul has unveiled an eight-point policy aimed at improving quality of life for residents and guiding the city’s development over the next four years.

Plans include improving roads, replacing existing street lighting with energy-efficient LED systems, and upgrading the municipal waterworks system with new filtration and sedimentation facilities. The city also aims to expand access to water through cooperation with the Provincial Waterworks Authority. Traffic and public transport will be addressed through a transit-oriented development (TOD) model, while the expansion of high-speed internet and 5G infrastructure will support a shift toward a digital economy. Hua Hin municipality issues warning over obstruction of foot paths

Hua Hin City municipality has issued a warning against the obstruction of public footpaths,   the public that such actions violate Thailand’s cleanliness and orderliness laws and may result in fines or criminal prosecution.

The notice highlights increasing instances of objects being placed on foot paths and unauthorized construction encroaching into pedestrian areas within the city. Thailand and Cambodia shut several border crossings in tit-for-tat moves, ratcheting up tensions between the two neighbors as Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra fights to save her government from a political crisis triggered by a leaked phone call over the weeks-long standoff.

The closure of the Chong Sai Taku border crossing in northeastern Buri Ram province was effective from June 21, according to an order by the Thai army late Saturday. Waste-to Energy-Power Plant Project in Surat Thani province

Sermsang Power Corp. (SSP) has partnered with BAFS Clean Energy Co. and Luckly Clean Energy Co. to establish a joint-venture company named Beisel Waste Energy Co. The company aims to invest in developing Waste to an energy power plant project in Surat Thani province with a budget of over 2,200 million baht. The project will sell 8.9 MW of generated electricity to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and is expected to start its operation within two years.

The project will use high-efficiency technology to sort municipal solid waste in Surat Thani province and feed it as fuel into a moving grate incinerator controled by a hydraulic system. The plant will be installed with a flue gas-treatment system, a continuous emission monitoring system (CEMSs) and a wastewater treatment system.

The project can process 500 tons of waste into energy in a day (or 165,000 tons per year). Currently, the company has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the PEA and expects to be able to start commercial operation (COD) by 2026. – exri.co.th

      The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

      Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

      For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at  9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.
