UK Pensioners in Thailand Face New Scrutiny Over Pension Fraud

British pensioners living abroad, including in Thailand, will soon face enhanced scrutiny, as UK banking confidentiality is set to change under new legislation targeting pension fraud. The Data Protection and Digital Information Bill, currently under review in the House of Lords, is expected to take effect in early 2025.

Under the bill, British banks and building societies must share account details with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), where there are suspicions of fraud involving British citizens, both in the UK and overseas. Continued …

Moo Deng krathongs a big hit in Pathum Thani

The followers of a temple in Pathum Thani province have hit the bull’s eye by making krathongs, or small floating containers, in the shape of world-famous baby pygmy hippo Moo Deng for today’s Loy Krathong festival.

At Wat Thanyaphon (Wang Matcha) in Lam Luk Ka district, the followers have made 7,000 krathongs out of fish food that does not harm the environment. Continued …

Thais urged to change habits as diabetes cases cross 6.5 million

The Public Health Ministry has urged the public to eat healthily and exercise regularly to minimize the risk of diabetes, a deadly disease that plagues over 6.5 million Thais, or about one-tenth of the population.

Speaking on the occasion of World Diabetes Day on Thursday, Minister Somsak Thepsutin said that more than 90% of diabetes patients in Thailand are type 2, and some 40% do not know that they are diabetic. Continued …

ONWR outlines drought and flood management plans for Thailand

The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR), led by Deputy Prime Minister Prasert Chantararuangthong, has announced comprehensive plans for managing the approaching drought season across Thailand’s northern, northeastern, and central regions. Bombing Attack Injures 5 Officers in Pattani

In an attack in Pattani province, five police officers were injured when a bomb planted on a motorcycle exploded on the Tanyongdalo Bridge in Yaring district yesterday.

Police Col. Theeraphon Yindi, the Yaring Police Station chief, confirmed that the incident occurred as a team from the Border Patrol Police Division 446 was passing through the bridge in a 6-wheeled vehicle. Most property developers expecting higher revenue and profit in 2024

Despite negative sentiment in the Thai property market, developers expect revenue and profits to surpass the previous year, Property DNA said on Thursday.

Consumer confidence improves after months of decline

Consumer confidence improved for the first time in eight months in October because of fewer consumer concerns regarding the floods and improved economic conditions as a result of government measures.

The baht is currently at a satisfactory level and supporting exports, Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul said on Thursday, as Thailand’s currency reached a three-month low against the dollar.
