Why doctors in Thailand fear KFC

Doctors and nurses in Thailand fear eating KFC on shift because of a long-standing medical superstition known as the “KFC Fried Chicken Curse” (or “เวรเยิน” / wen yern, meaning a disastrously busy shift).

Bringing a bucket of KFC into a hospital ward is treated as a taboo; colleagues might get annoyed or worried because they fear it guarantees a sleepless, overwhelmed night. Some joke that local spirits (chao thi) are fond of fried chicken and deliberately dump a wave of cases on whoever orders it.
