Hua Hin holiday immigration office hours

Immigration offices in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi have confirmed their opening arrangements over the Christmas and New Year period, with services continuing on key dates before a short year-end closure.

The Immigration Bureau said offices will be closed from Dec. 31 to Jan. 4, reopening as normal after the New Year break. However, immigration services will remain open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, as these are not official public holidays in Thailand. Continued …

People in Thailand have been warned of experiencing higher levels of harmful smog throughout this week, according to Pollution Control Department (PCD). The overall levels of particulate matter measuring 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter (PM2.5) have begun to increase in several areas, the PCD reported.

Southeast Asia floods may be the new normal, scientists say

Climate scientists expect the punishing storms, floods, and devastation experienced in Southeast Asia to become the new normal, driven by climate patterns set last year. The unusually severe floods this year, caused by late-arriving storms and relentless rain, have wreaked havoc, catching many places off guard.

Some 1,750 people have died across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, with more than 1,000 still missing in floods and landslides. In Indonesia, entire villages are isolated after bridges and roads were swept away. Prices dip again in November

Headline inflation was negative for an eighth consecutive month in November due to falling energy prices and government measures to reduce the cost of living, according to the Commerce Ministry.

Nantapong Chiralerspong, director-general of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO), said the headline consumer price index fell by 0.49% year-on-year to 100.5 in November. A study titled “Survey of Intestinal Parasite Contamination in Fresh Vegetables in Bangkok, Thailand”, conducted by Uthaitip Boonkasem of the School of Health Science at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, and colleagues, has revealed concerning levels of parasitic contamination in commonly consumed fresh vegetables.

The research examined the prevalence of intestinal parasites in fresh produce collected from both local and urban markets across Bangkok. Southern flood crisis deepens: after Hat Yai, Narathiwat now submerged

Severe flooding has struck nine districts in Narathiwat, affecting more than 47,000 households, with one death reported. Authorities have deployed police and district officials to wade through dangerous 2-meter-deep currents to rescue stranded residents.

Authorities today reported that rainfall continues to blanket all 13 districts of Narathiwat, causing water levels to rise rapidly. Three major rivers — the Bang Nara River and the Saiburi River — have overflowed their banks, inundating large areas. Desperate calls for help echo in flooded Hat Yai

Screams for help from flood-stricken residents filled the air in Hat Yai of this heavily inundated southern border province last night, leading to a complete evacuation order for the entire district. Historically high rainfall and torrents from higher areas near Hat Yai prompted Songkhla Gov. Ratthasart Chidchoo to mandate the total evacuation yesterday.

Death toll from Thailand floods at 22

The death toll from floods in Thailand has risen to 22, authorities said yesterday, as they rushed to get relief to an estimated 370,000 people affected by heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers.

Tracing ‘waste colonialism’ in Southeast Asia

For much of the last 50 years, high-income countries have consumed massive amounts of plastic and trash and given little thought to what would become of it. This was largely because it was out of sight, out of mind, as much of that trash ended up being shipped overseas, first to China, and then recently to Southeast Asia and other Global South countries.

But this model could be coming to an end as some of the top waste-importing countries in Southeast Asia have started to ban foreign waste imports this year. Gunman Kills Five at Bangkok Market Before Taking Own Life

A Thai man opened fire at Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor Market just after midday yesterday, killing five people, including four security guards and a market vendor, before turning the gun on himself. The incident occurred at a donation area associated with social activist “Kan Jompalang”.

The assailant, from Khong District, Nakhon Ratchasima, was a former security guard who had previously worked at the same company as the victims. Sai River overflows in Mae Sai after heavy downpours trigger flash flooding

Residents in several communities in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district began evacuating to higher ground early yesterday after hours of heavy rainfall caused the Sai River to swell and overflow. The Tambon Mae Sai Municipality announced at 8:21am that the situation had become critical, with rainfall recorded at 118.8 millimeters.

According to the municipality, the Sai River’s water level reached 398.31 meters at the Mae Sai Friendship Bridge, leading to overflow and flash flooding. Cooking gas price remains capped

The Energy Policy Administration Committee has resolved to extend the capped price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking at 423 baht per 15-kilogram cylinder until March 31 next year.

Cabinet okays raising foreign staff quota

The cabinet has approved in principle increasing the number of foreign workers at businesses to deal with the shortage. According to government spokesman Jirayu Huangsab, under Thai laws the number of foreign workers at a single business is limited to a ceiling of 100 individuals, and for stateless foreign workers, the limit is 50 per business.

Upgrade of Hua Hin Airport to continue next year

Transport Deputy Minister Manaporn Charoensri said on Saturday the ministry had ordered the Department of Airports, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, and other agencies to develop Hua Hin’s operations, including acquiring a certificate to operate it as an international airport.

Danai Ruangsorn, director-general of the Department of Airports (DoA), said the development plan for Hua Hin Airport consists of two major projects. The first, expanding the runway, has been completed. The second, work on related infrastructure aspects of the airport, such as the runway tunnel over the highway, still need 300 billion baht and budget approval. Continued …

“It will be the end of Hua Hin as a laid back beach town resort. Tourist operators from China, India and Russia will promote Hua Hin as a place to have a vacation.”

“Heard this rubbish for years and they cannot even get a single service yet from Singapore or KL . And, of course, if you noticed the traffic congestion already in peak season, and the new train station, the road system will also need upgrades. Have they planned for that?”

Air Asia has been interested in using Hua Hin as a regional hub for years now, and all they have ever gotten is Neanderthal-style foot dragging from the officials here. Thailand desperately needs more regional airports, especially within a few hours of Bangkok. Hua Hin’s Norsk “MC gang”

Hua Hin is home to an active Norwegian motorcycle “gang” that call itself “Kubik Gjengen”. The group is far from a hard-core gang but more like a touring group of about 40 Norwegians.

Canada is the leading country worldwide for essential healthcare coverage, according to The World Health Organization’s (WHO) World Health Statistics 2024 report. The organization ranked 194 countries based on a selection of indicators of key health concerns, such as reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health, infectious diseases, noncommunicable diseases and service capacity and access.

The WHO is monitoring universal health coverage by tracking two main indicators worldwide: the coverage of essential health services (SDG 3.8.1) and the lack of financial protection (SDG 3.8.2), which is defined as the “proportion of a country’s population with large household expenditures on health relative to their total household expenditure.” Continued …

Thailand’s government is pushing forward with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Bill, which is slated for parliamentary submission next month as part of its effort to enhance alcohol regulation. Rama II Road reopens after crane accident caused fatalities

Commuters can breathe a sigh of relief as traffic resumes on Rama II Road following a harrowing crane accident that claimed six lives and injured nine, leaving a trail of disruption in its wake.

Wild Elephant Kills Man in Prachinburi

Yesterday, a wild elephant from Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary crossed into a village in Prachinburi Province, fatally attacking a 45-year-old man near a sugarcane field.

The Kabin Buri Police Station was notified of the incident in the early morning. The victim was found dead on the edge of a sugarcane field. Construction Workers Found Dead After Landslide on Koh Samui

In an incident on Koh Samui, Surat Thani, a landslide caused by heavy rain buried the makeshift shelters of construction workers, leaving two men from Myanmar missing. The workers were stationed at a site where four vacation homes were being constructed located on a hillside.

The landslide struck around 4 am yesterday. After a search of over 10 hours, rescue teams, including local authorities, military personnel, and construction workers, managed to dig through the mud and debris. Police Detain 2 Suspects After a Bomb in a Border Province Killed 3

Thai police on Saturday said two suspects were in custody as authorities investigated a bombing in the north that killed at least three people and injured dozens of others.

An explosive device was thrown into a crowd during an outdoor performance at an annual festival in Umphang town in Tak province, which borders Myanmar, on Friday just before midnight. More than half of the respondents to a recent poll have little to no confidence in the government’s ability to tackle pressing economic problems, while more than 70% praise the “digital wallet” scheme as the government’s most outstanding policy delivery in its first three months in office, according to a Suan Dusit Poll of Suan Dusit University.
