Hua Hin-Chiang Mai flight schedule changed

Thai Airasia has updated its flight schedule between Hua Hin and Chiang Mai (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday). This new schedule runs from Oct. 26, 2025, to March 28, 2026.

The new schedule:

  • Hua Hin to Chiang Mai: Departure 5:15 pm (departs 12:10 pm until Oct. 26)
  • Chiang Mai to Hua Hin: Departure 3:25 am (departs !0:20 am until Oct. 26)

Hua Hin officials inspect railway canal flood-prevention work

Prachuap Khiri Khan Gov. Sitthichai Sawaetsan and State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Gov. Veerith Amrapal have inspected progress on a canal dredging project designed to prevent flooding and improve water management along the railway line.

The inspection took place on Monday and focused on areas near the railway in Mueang District, including Moo 1 and under the bridge near Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Stadium. Thai private hospitals back cheaper drug options

Death toll from Thailand floods at 22

The death toll from floods in Thailand has risen to 22, authorities said yesterday, as they rushed to get relief to an estimated 370,000 people affected by heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers.

Nineteen provinces were affected, the Disaster Prevention Department said, with Uttaradit and Ayutthaya, north of Bangkok, among the worst-hit areas. Authorities said emergency teams were distributing food and supplies, and were closely monitoring water levels as the monsoon season brings widespread rainfall. – Reuters

Thailand to Register 700,000 Undocumented Migrant Workers

Thailand will legalize an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 undocumented migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam under a special registration drive this month. The 15-day registration window, from Oct. 15-29, aims to address ongoing labor shortages, while bringing unregistered foreign workers into the formal employment system.

The plan targets workers already employed in Thailand who lack legal status,. The Department of Employment will operate an online registration platform, allowing employers to apply on behalf of their workers at any time during the registration period. Continued …

Trump’s nominee confirmed as ambassador to Thailand

The US Senate has confirmed Sean O’Neill, a former consul general in Chiang Mai, as the next US ambassador to Thailand. He was among a group of more than 100 nominees proposed by US President Trump voted in with a simple majority.

The government’s “Khon La Khrueng Plus” co-payment scheme, worth 44 billion baht, is expected to bolster GDP in the fourth quarter, said Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas.

World Bank Ups Thai Growth Forecast Despite Political Risk

In Prachuap Khiri Khan, officers from Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park confiscated 202.5 kilograms of Hin Phra That stones, believed to be intended for sale in the highly sought-after amulet market. Police are pursuing those responsible for the illegal extraction.

During the patrol, a green medium-sized fiberglass boat was found, containing five modified fertilizer bags used as backpacks. These bags were later discovered to contain stone fragments weighing a total of 202.5 kilograms, presumed to be intended for smuggling out of the area. Continued …

Thailand Enforces Stricter Controls on Medical Cannabis Use

Cannabis is now under tighter control in Thailand, with the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine announcing new restrictions. Tourism in Phuket is surging, with more than 7.6 million visitors in the first seven months of the year, says the Provincial Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Office, Phuket. Russians, Chinese, and Indians comprise the top visitors to the island.

The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) has released new images from camera traps showing rare animals thriving in Khao Laem National Park in Kanchanaburi, highlighting the success of conservation efforts in the Western Forest Complex.The park spans Sangkhla Buri and Thong Pha Phum districts and forms part of one of Thailand’s largest contiguous forest systems.

Tracing ‘waste colonialism’ in Southeast Asia

For much of the last 50 years, high-income countries have consumed massive amounts of plastic and trash and given little thought to what would become of it. This was largely because it was out of sight, out of mind, as much of that trash ended up being shipped overseas, first to China, and then recently to Southeast Asia and other Global South countries.

But this model could be coming to an end as some of the top waste-importing countries in Southeast Asia have started to ban foreign waste imports this year. Thailand and Indonesia both announced they would stop importing plastic waste in January in an effort to combat toxic pollution. Malaysia prohibited the import of plastic scrap on July 1, Vietnam has announced that a ban on plastic waste imports will go into effect sometime this year. Continued …

Gunman Kills Five at Bangkok Market Before Taking Own Life

A Thai man opened fire at Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor Market just after midday yesterday, killing five people, including four security guards and a market vendor, before turning the gun on himself. The incident occurred at a donation area associated with social activist “Kan Jompalang”.

The assailant, from Khong District, Nakhon Ratchasima, was a former security guard who had previously worked at the same company as the victims. Sai River overflows in Mae Sai after heavy downpours trigger flash flooding

Residents in several communities in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district began evacuating to higher ground early yesterday after hours of heavy rainfall caused the Sai River to swell and overflow. The Tambon Mae Sai Municipality announced at 8:21am that the situation had become critical, with rainfall recorded at 118.8 millimeters.

According to the municipality, the Sai River’s water level reached 398.31 meters at the Mae Sai Friendship Bridge, leading to overflow and flash flooding. Cooking gas price remains capped

The Energy Policy Administration Committee has resolved to extend the capped price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking at 423 baht per 15-kilogram cylinder until March 31 next year.

Cabinet okays raising foreign staff quota

The cabinet has approved in principle increasing the number of foreign workers at businesses to deal with the shortage. The Energy Regulatory Commission’s secretary-general released a list of 72 solar and wind farms to generate 2,145.3 megawatts of electricity despite an earlier order by the energy minister to delay the purchase of clean energy.

Sopacha Dhumrongpiyawut, managing director of Gunkul Engineering Public Co., revealed that the company was selected by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to provide the feed-in tarff (FiT) renewable energy for the period of 2022-2030.

Thailand bans imports of plastic waste from January 1

Importers in Thailand will not be allowed to bring plastic waste into the kingdom from Jan. 1, as the country moves to prevent hazards to the environment and public health, the Department of Foreign Trade announced on Tuesday.

Upgrade of Hua Hin Airport to continue next year

Transport Deputy Minister Manaporn Charoensri said on Saturday the ministry had ordered the Department of Airports, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, and other agencies to develop Hua Hin’s operations, including acquiring a certificate to operate it as an international airport.

Danai Ruangsorn, director-general of the Department of Airports (DoA), said the development plan for Hua Hin Airport consists of two major projects. The first, expanding the runway, has been completed. The second, work on related infrastructure aspects of the airport, such as the runway tunnel over the highway, still need 300 billion baht and budget approval. Continued …

“It will be the end of Hua Hin as a laid back beach town resort. Tourist operators from China, India and Russia will promote Hua Hin as a place to have a vacation.”

“Heard this rubbish for years and they cannot even get a single service yet from Singapore or KL . And, of course, if you noticed the traffic congestion already in peak season, and the new train station, the road system will also need upgrades. Have they planned for that?”

“Economically it would be good for Hua Hin, but it would be sad to see it become another Pattaya or Phuket.”

Air Asia has been interested in using Hua Hin as a regional hub for years now, and all they have ever gotten is Neanderthal-style foot dragging from the officials here. Thailand desperately needs more regional airports, especially within a few hours of Bangkok. Hua Hin is home to an active Norwegian motorcycle “gang” that call itself “Kubik Gjengen”. The group is far from a hard-core gang but more like a touring group of about 40 Norwegians.

Canada is the leading country worldwide for essential healthcare coverage, according to The World Health Organization’s (WHO) World Health Statistics 2024 report. The organization ranked 194 countries based on a selection of indicators of key health concerns, such as reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health, infectious diseases, noncommunicable diseases and service capacity and access.

Commuters can breathe a sigh of relief as traffic resumes on Rama II Road following a harrowing crane accident that claimed six lives and injured nine, leaving a trail of disruption in its wake.

Wild Elephant Kills Man in Prachinburi

Yesterday, a wild elephant from Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary crossed into a village in Prachinburi Province, fatally attacking a 45-year-old man near a sugarcane field.

The Kabin Buri Police Station was notified of the incident in the early morning. The victim was found dead on the edge of a sugarcane field. Construction Workers Found Dead After Landslide on Koh Samui

In an incident on Koh Samui, Surat Thani, a landslide caused by heavy rain buried the makeshift shelters of construction workers, leaving two men from Myanmar missing. The workers were stationed at a site where four vacation homes were being constructed located on a hillside.

The landslide struck around 4 am yesterday. After a search of over 10 hours, rescue teams, including local authorities, military personnel, and construction workers, managed to dig through the mud and debris. Police Detain 2 Suspects After a Bomb in a Border Province Killed 3

Thai police on Saturday said two suspects were in custody as authorities investigated a bombing in the north that killed at least three people and injured dozens of others.

An explosive device was thrown into a crowd during an outdoor performance at an annual festival in Umphang town in Tak province, which borders Myanmar, on Friday just before midnight. British man commits suicide in Cha Am, leaving sand messages for Thai wife

A British man left messages in the sand for his wife and children before taking his own life on Cha Am Beach in the southern province of Phetchaburi. He was reportedly distressed over two legal cases and a 400,000-baht loss to a friend.

Police arrested more than 120 people wearing only underwear in a Bangkok hotel room where they were partying with drugs early Sunday morning. Police stopped the party in Room 2001 on the 20th floor at S31 Hotel in Watthana district at 1.30am on Sunday.

The alleged British drug mule, Ahmed Sohail, who claimed he went to Thailand to lose some weight, ended up losing much more than he bargained for.

The cabinet approved a package to help flood victims yesterday, both individuals and businesses in 50 provinces, which includes tax exemptions, soft loans, debt moratoria, interest rate cuts and loan guarantees.

An elephant overturned a pickup truck on the side of the road with the driver inside, as it is believed that the latter did not wait for the animal to cross the road. The incident happened about 128 kilometers east of the capital Bangkok in rural Chachoengsao province Saturday evening.

Nationwide Alcohol Sales Ban Set Thursday as Thailand Marks End of Buddhist Lent

The end of Buddhist Lent, Awk Phansa, will take place on Thursday, and a nationwide sales ban on alcohol will be enforced for 24 hours.

Weather warning for heavy rain in 40 provinces

Thailand’s Meteorological Department issued another serious weather warning for 40 provinces, urging residents, especially in Bangkok, its surrounding areas, the southern region, and the eastern region, to prepare for heavy rainfall affecting up to 70% of these regions.

In the southern region, the eastern coast will experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with some areas getting heavy rain. Provinces affected include Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The temperatures will be between 23-25°C at the lowest and 30-34°C at the highest. Suitability index for buying property and a new car continues to fall

The Center for Economic and Business Forecasting at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) has reported that the suitability index of purchasing a new car in September 2024 declined for the seventh consecutive month, reaching its lowest point since March 2023. The index for September 2024 was recorded at 67.0, down from 70.2 in August.
