Partial road closures expected for water pipeline work on Sarasong Road

Hua Hin City Municipality will begin installing a new raw water pipeline along Sarosong Road today, with partial road closures expected until Sept. 15. Drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible to minimize delays.

The Cha-am–Huai Sai Dairy Cooperative in Phetchaburi Province has warned of a mounting crisis in the school milk program, with excess milk production threatening the livelihoods of dairy farmers across more than 10 provinces in central Thailand.

Somkuan Sawangarom, manager of the cooperative, revealed that the cooperative purchases approximately 23 tons of raw milk daily from local farmers. A satellite-to-phone service using Globalstar’s low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites is expected to be available in Thailand at the end of 2026. The move will benefit satellite operator Thaicom, the local exclusive partner of Globalstar in providing LEO satellite services in Thailand, according to Thaicom chief executive Patompob Suwansiri.

Cha Am Police Nab Man After High-Speed Chase

A 34-year-old man from Nakhon Pathom was arrested following a 70-kilometer police pursuit that began in Hua Hin and ended in Cha Am, after he allegedly fled a checkpoint out of fear police would discover two illegal firearms and a counterfeit license plate hidden on his vehicle.

PM2.5 air pollution and mutations in the EGFR gene are major drivers behind the increasing incidence of lung cancer among non-smoking women, particularly across Asia, says a leading Thai oncologist.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Naiyarat Prasongsook, a medical oncologist at Phramongkutklao Hospital, said more than 2.48 million people worldwide are living with lung cancer. Thailand unveils new traffic ticket formats

The Royal Gazette has published an announcement from the Royal Thai Police (RTP) detailing the new formats for traffic tickets, effective today. The updated designs, intended to align with administrative fine orders, include three formats as part of its 2025 implementation.

The new traffic ticket formats include: A format for traffic tickets given to drivers, either attached, tied, or displayed on vehicles. This format consists of four sheets, each serving a distinct purpose: the first is white and is affixed to the vehicle. The second is yellow and sent to the administrative fines authority for data entry into the National Police’s central information system. Thailand F-16 jet bombs Cambodian targets as border clash escalates

A Thai F-16 fighter jet bombed targets in Cambodia, both sides said, as weeks of tension over a border dispute escalated into clashes yesterday that have killed at least 12 people, including 11 civilians.

Of the six F-16 fighter jets that Thailand readied to deploy along the disputed border, one of the aircraft fired into Cambodia and destroyed a military target, the Thai army said. Both countries accused each other of starting the clash early yesterday. Continued … 

12 Killed in Cambodian Artillery Strikes on Civilian Areas

Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin confirmed yesterday that 12 people, 11 civilians and one Thai soldier, were killed in artillery shelling launched by Cambodian forces, in what officials have condemned as a blatant attack on civilian areas.

New Driving License Rule Causes Concern Among Expats

Flooded Chiang Rai farm sparks dramatic pig rescue

A frantic mission is underway in Chiang Rai, where rising floodwaters have forced officials to evacuate more than 1,000 pigs from a waterlogged farm — one tiny boatload at a time.

With land access cut off, rescuers are relying on small boats to ferry the animals to dry ground. Tourism confidence dives

Thai hotels face crisis as Chinese tourists drop by 42%

The Thai hotel industry is facing a significant drop in tourist numbers. Chinese tourists alone decreased by 42% in June. The Thai Hotels Assn. is urging the government to enhance the country’s image, enforce safety measures, and tackle overcharging of foreign tourists.

Tianprasert Chaipattaranan, President of the Thai Hotels Assn., expressed concern over the drop in foreign tourists, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Departing passenger service charge may go up

The Transport Ministry has told Airports of Thailand (AoT) to explore the possibility of raising the passenger service charge (PSC) for departing passengers at six major airports under its supervision. Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said an increase of 100 baht is under consideration.

Rivers carry plastic across continents, so scientists tracked its movement across continents too. A sweeping new study spanning four continents and eight countries has amassed one of the largest datasets ever collected on plastic pollution in rivers — offering insights that the researchers responsible believe are key to helping turn off the tap of plastic waste.

Easy Airline to Launch Flights Linking Hua Hin, Surat Thani, Phuket & Hat Yai

Easy Airline is set to expand its aviation operations with a new regional service connecting Hua Hin to key southern destinations: Surat Thani, Phuket and Hat Yai. The airline has taken delivery of a new aircraft from the United States, signaling a move to promote tourism and improve regional connectivity. Initial operations will begin as charter flights this September.

The newly acquired aircraft, a 12-seat Cessna 208B Grand Caravan EX, recently landed at Hua Hin Airport. Early effects of US tariffs outlined

The U.S. plans to impose a 36% tariff on Thai goods if no agreement is reached by Aug. 1. Meanwhile, Vietnam secured a deal reducing its tariff to 20% from 46%.

These “reciprocal tariffs” have severely disrupted bilateral trade. For example, U.S. imports from China by sea fell 28.5% in May compared to the previous year — the sharpest drop since the Covid-19 pandemic — after the U.S. imposed tariffs as high as 145%. U.S. container imports dropped 7.2% in May to 2.18 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), with major West Coast ports like Long Beach and Los Angeles were hit hardest, seeing Chinese imports fall by over 30%. Trump confirms no extension on tariff deadline, threatens 200% tax on drug imports

U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not extend the tariff deadline further and will proceed with the stringent customs tariffs set for early August. Trump has also warned of a potential 200% import tax on copper and pharmaceutical products if manufacturing is not moved to the United States.

According to Bloomberg, Trump stated via social media and during a Cabinet meeting yesterday that he would not delay the imposition of the “countermeasure” tariffs. Thailand remains optimistic about securing a lower tariff rate than the 36% levy announced by U.S. President Donald Trump based on an offer to bring down import tax on most U.S. goods to zero, according to Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira.

The Southeast Asian nation expects to wrap up trade negotiations before the Aug. 1 deadline set by the U.S., Pichai said yesterday. Th x could fall below 1,000 points and the country’s GDP growth to less than 1% if the Thai negotiating team led by Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira cannot convince the U.S. to lower its reciprocal tariff from 36%, analysts said yesterday.

China’s President Xi Jinping urged Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to drop Pheu Thai’s flagship “casino bill”, or to expect negative repercussions on tourism and bilateral trade, former interior minister Anutin Charnvirakul has revealed. Anutin claimed that Xi raised the issue during a high-level meeting in Beijing.

Cannabis law change will shutter 16,000 businesses

Only 2,000 of the estimated 18,000 cannabis shops in Thailand will be left once authorities complete their plan to convert dispensaries to clinics with resident doctors, a Ministry of Public Health official said yesterday.

Tour bus accident in Phetchaburi injures 9

Yesterday at approximately 8 p.m., a tour bus lost control and skidded off the road near a sharp curve on Phetkasem Road (southbound) at kilometer 151-560, in the Huasaphan area, Phetchaburi Province. Fortunately, all 28 passengers and two crew members managed to exit the vehicle safely. Nine people sustained minor injuries.

Arsenic contamination in Chiang Mai children linked to river fish

An alarming discovery was made in Mae Ai district, Chiang Mai province, where arsenic levels in two young children were found to exceed normal standards. This was believed to be linked to fish consumption from the Kok River, which flows from Shan State, Myanmar, into Thailand.

The Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office conducted tests Monday on four residents from Kaeng Sai Mun village, Mae Ai district, with urine samples collected on May 19. The results indicated that two children, a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old, had abnormal levels of arsenic in their bodies. The children reportedly consumed fish from the Kok River regularly. Editor: A “promenade” is in the plans. However, legal action by the affected businesses is a possibility, delaying any demolition and possible “improvements” perhaps by years.

Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair starts today

The 27th annual Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair will take place from June 27 to July 6. The fair, organized by Hua Hin District in partnership with the Hua Hin District Branch of the Thai Red Cross Society, will be held at the activity area behind Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall on Hua Hin Soi 102.

Phuket officials are ramping up security in one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations after a safety inspection at Patong Beach, aimed at reassuring tourists and locals. Suspected Explosive Device Found Outside Phang Nga Governor’s Residence

Authorities in Phang Nga were placed on high alert after a suspected explosive device was discovered yesterday near the perimeter fence of the provincial governor’s residence.     The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

Two local festivals this weekend

Two beachside festivals featuring local cuisine and live entertainment are set to take place near Hua Hin thiks weekend.

Volunteers Improve Local Temple Road

LPG Truck Overturns on Phetkasem Road, Causing 10km Traffic Jam

A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker overturned yesterday morning on Phetkasem Road southbound near Ban Wa Thon, Khlong Wan subdistrict, Prachuap Khiri Khan, blocking traffic and causing a congestion stretch of approximately 10 kilometers.

Covid-19 cases top 53,500 in week, Bangkok most infected

There were 53,563 covid-19 cases reported in Thailand last week, with five deaths, and Bangkok had the most infections, according to the Department of Disease Control. Of the cases, 2,827 were inpatients and 50,736 outpatients.

Patients aged 30-39 years old formed the biggest group, 10,740, followed by 20-29 (9,527), 60 and over (8,107) and 4,117 young children aged up to four years. Continued …

Residents of a 900-unit condominium in the Chokchai Ruammit area of Bangkokare furious with their juristic person because even though two months have passed since the big earthquake on March 28, they are still unable to live in their homes.

The baht is expected to depreciate to around 33.80 against the U.S. dollar this week, driven by a firmer greenback following the temporary pause in the U.S.-China tariff war. However, the Thai currency is expected to remain volatile.

Warning over new VAT proposal

The proposal to lower the value-added tax (VAT) registration threshold to include businesses with annual revenue of less than 1.8 million baht could increase the burden on small retailers already grappling with weak consumer spending and intense competition, according to the Thai Wholesale and Retail Trade Assn.

Only businesses with annual revenue of 1.8 million baht or more are required to register for VAT in the current tax code. Once registered, they must submit VAT documents to the Revenue Department every month, even if there is no VAT due for that period. Continued …

Thailand welcomes nearly 13 million foreign tourists, a 1.04% decline

As of May 11, a total of 12,948,032 foreign tourists have entered Thailand since Jan. 1 — a 1.04% decrease compared to the same period last year.

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at  9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.
