Sorawong Thienthong, Tourism and Sports minister, stated that the Foreign Ministry has acknowledged the issue following extensive discussions with stakeholders over the past weeks. Investigation deepens into foreign-owned businesses, nominee operations in Hua Hin

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has announced that it is investigating foreign-owned businesses or nominee operations in key tourist areas, following concerns raised by a former member of Parliament in Phuket.

Nationwide, the ministry has conducted inspections in six key areas: Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Chonburi, Hua Hin, and Surat Thani. As a result, 40 tourism business licenses have been revoked in 2024 due to illegal changes in board members and shareholding structures. New bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The new first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin will offer two round trips daily. The fare would be 200 baht each way and would take three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure will be from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Bangkok Urges Work from Home Amid Severe Air Pollution Threat

Bangkok residents are being urged to work from home next week, as the city’s air quality is set to deteriorate drastically. Measures to discourage sugarcane farmers from burning crop leftovers – a major contributor to PM2.5 air pollution – have been approved, the Cane and Sugar Board said on Friday.

Flights fight PM2.5 pollution

Thailand is taking its fight against air pollution to the skies, deploying special flight operations to tackle the dangerous PM2.5 dust particles. Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri announced that the innovative operations have already improved air quality in key regions, including Bangkok, the central region, and the upper north.

Launched by Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI), the mission began on Dec. 1 last year in Bangkok and surrounding areas, expanding to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Tak, and Mae Hong Son provinces the following day. Overflowing Ping River continues to affect downtown Chiang Mai

The flooding triggered by the overflowing of the Ping River in Chiang Mai’s Mueang district is even worse than in 2011, according to a report. Korat faces water shortage with all its reservoirs only half full

While several provinces in the north are suffering serious flooding, especially Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima in the northeast is facing a water shortage with all of its 27 reservoirs now less than half full.

For an example, Lamtakong reservoir, which is the main source of water for Mueang, Sung Noen, Si Khio, Kham Thalae So and Chalerm Phra Kiat, now contains 92.26 million cubic meters of water, 30.6% of its capacity. Of that, only 25.2% of the water is usable. Continued … 

Roadside bomb injures eight soldiers in Narathiwat

Eight soldiers sustained injuries in a roadside explosion in Rangae district, Narathiwat, believed to be orchestrated by insurgents. The incident took place when an improvised bomb, tied to a power pole along a local road in Ban Hulu Pare, tambon Tanyongmat, was detonated as a military pickup truck carrying the soldiers drove past.

Mortgage growth forecast to plunge

Kasikorn Research Center (K-Research) expects 1.2% growth in mortgages within the commercial banking sector this year, the lowest level of expansion in 23 years. The low rate is attributed to the diminished purchasing power of home buyers.

Production index projected to decline 1% in 2024

Thailand’s Manufacturing Production Index (MPI) is likely to contract by 1% this year, given the declines recorded during the first eight months of the year, caused by a raft of economic problems and the impact of severe floods, says the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE).

The best-case scenario for MPI growth is a flat reading, said OIE Director-general Warawan Chitaroon. The office previously downgraded its MPI growth projection for 2024 from a range of 2%-3% to 0-1%. It revised down the range again on Thursday to between -1% and 0. Continued …
