DDC reports over 374,000 Covid cases, 84 deaths

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has reported nearly 375,000 Covid-19 cases nationwide so far this year, with 84 confirmed fatalities.

According to the DDC’s Bureau of Epidemiology, 23,352 new patients were recorded as of Thursday. Of these, 22,399 were treated as outpatients and 953 were hospitalized. Thailand’s annual inflation rate was negative for a second straight month in May, the commerce ministry said yesterday, as it cut its full-year forecast to close to zero, just weeks ahead of the central bank’s next monetary policy review.

Thailand welcomes 14 million foreign tourists in 2025, down 2.7%

As of the first five months of 2025 (January to May), Thailand has welcomed a total of 14,362,694 foreign tourists, a 2.7% decrease compared to the same period last year. The largest group of foreign tourists continues to come from China, with 1,958,939 visitors, followed by Malaysia (1,901,464), India (978,600), Russia (961,143), and South Korea (673,563).

When broken down regionally, Asia accounted for nearly 63% of total foreign visitors to Thailand. However, there has been a significant decline in the number of tourists, especially from northeast Asia (China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan), which dropped by as much as 23%. Specifically, China saw a decrease of 32.7%, Hong Kong by 23.1%, and South Korea by 16.2% compared to the same period last year. Continued …

Thailand recorded 65,880 Covid-19 cases and three deaths in the last week of May but the outbreak was waning from its yearly peak, according to the public health minister. Minister Somsak Thepsuthin said yesterday the new cases and fatalities were recorded from May 25 to 31.

A 29-year-old lorry driver was wounded in the early hours yesterday, after being shot during a violent road rage incident on Phetkasem Road. The attack occurred at around 3 am in Ban Na Thong, Khlong Wan subdistrict.

A raid carried out during the early hours of Monday morning on an unlicensed bar in Hua Hin Soi 80 resulted in the arrest of several individuals involved in illegal activity.

Heavy rain alert: 39 Thai provinces braced for potential floods

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued an advisory for continuous rainfall over many parts of the country. A total of 39 provinces, including the capital city of Bangkok, are expected to experience heavy rainfall, covering 60% of these areas. The Department has forewarned residents in these regions to be on guard for potential flash floods and land runoff from today onward.

The TMD reported that the monsoon over the southwest has gained intensity, covering the upper portion of the Andaman Sea and upper Thailand. This weather pattern, coupled with low-pressure covering over upper Vietnam, is causing increased rainfall. Continued …

Thai mother’s selfless act donates son’s heart, rekindling a stranger’s heartbeat

The Thai Red Cross Society disclosed the touching story of a mother who donated the heart of her son on a life-support machine to save another’s life. Despite facing criticism from people who couldn’t understand her decision, the mother hit back saying it was the right thing to do to save the life of another.

Sopha Noyjinda’s son, Adisorn Sangsi, was involved in a tragic accident that turned the family’s life upside down. The accident left Adisorn on a life-support machine. Sopha said, “People were questioning how I could let him go as he was still breathing, but I knew his life was only due to the machines. If we unplugged him, he wouldn’t survive.” Continued …

Earthquake investigation uncovers overlooked fault line

Phitsanulok and Pichit provinces, situated in the north of Thailand, were recently shaken by a significant earthquake, rated 4.5 on the Richter scale.

The tremors caused noticeable damage to various buildings, including residences, religious sites, schools, and a hospital. New small hotel regulations to increase tourist capacity

The latest amendment to the 2008 Ministerial regulations on the classification of hotel businesses will allow some 50,000 operators offering over 2 million rooms to legally register as small hotels, further enhancing Thailand’s capacity to welcome tourists, while also creating more jobs, the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) announced on Monday.

According to Manosit Jangjob, head of the TCT’s small hotel subcommittee, Thailand has around 85,000 businesses that fit the category of small hotels, but only 14,000 of them have been able to register under the 2008 regulations. Continued …

Hua Hin-Pattaya bus service twice a day

Hua Hin now has twice-daily bus service to Pattaya, leaving Hua Hin at 9am and 3pm, and departing from Pattaya at 8am and 4pm. Tickets are 473 THB.

Tickets can be bought in person at the Hua Hin bus station or online. Buses depart from the Hua Hin bus station and in front of Government Savings Bank, Cha Am.. Tickets
