The Thai Bankers Assn. (TBA) has announced that starting Feb. 14, 2026, all mobile banking apps in Thailand will support only iOS 14 and Android 10 or higher. This move is in response to the growing cybersecurity threats, especially attacks targeting devices with outdated operating systems, which are vulnerable to data theft, financial fraud, and malware installation.

According to the TBA, this change is a preventive measure aimed at reducing risks from various cybersecurity threats, such as malware, phishing, data interception over public networks, and remote control of devices. Many people still believe climate disasters happen to “other people”. And yet these same people repost updates, donate to relief, criticize the government, and talk about structural change. BOT Gov. Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput said the new banknotes, made from a special polymer material, are more durable and resistant to moisture and dirt. Thailand on Flood Alert as Typhoon Kalmaegi Nears

Thailand’s disaster authorities have issued flood warnings for Bangkok and 65 provinces as weakening Typhoon Kalmaegi brings heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Chao Phraya River. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) cautioned that the capital and surrounding Central Plains provinces could see significant flooding from today to Sunday, with authorities closely monitoring the river’s fast-flowing current.

As of yesterday, the DDPM reported water flowing through the Chao Phraya River barrage in Chai Nat province at a rate of 3,050 to 3,250 cubic meters per second. The Royal Irrigation Department has increased the discharge rate from 2,500 to 2,700 cu m/sec to manage inflow from upstream. Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in BangkokThe first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at 9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.

Cabinet nods for power bill subsidy for vulnerable groups

The Cabinet has approved a total budget of Bt1.9 billion to subsidize power bills for vulnerable groups during September–December 2024. For power bills in September, the Cabinet approved that the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and the Provincial Electricity Authority allocate a subtotal budget of Bt472.67 million for the subsidy.

The retroactive measure means that vulnerable individuals with power bills recorded at no higher than 300 units during the four-month period are eligible for the subsidy, equivalent to a 19.05 satang discount per unit. Soi 94 resurfacing, drainage improvements planned

Hua Hin municipality has announced that extensive resurfacing work will soon commence on Soi 94, one of the most uneven and damaged road surfaces in central Hua Hin. The project, which includes the installation of new drainage, is expected to take approximately seven months to complete.

The repair work will involve the installation of drainage pipes and resurfacing the road from the western railway intersection to Baan Chang Heng, extending to the far end of Soi 94 where the road turns right. Yet amid such instability, one aspect of Thailand’s governance flourishes: its public-health system.

Thai health care is among the most effective in the world. The average Thai can expect to live to 80, much longer than their regional counterpart (the Southeast Asian figure is 73) and even slightly longer than the average American and European (each roughly 79), according to the latest data from the United Nations. Can of Beans raises the issue of the real cost of living for foreigners in Thailand

A can of Heinz beans went viral on social media site TikTok last week. Two young tourists from Ireland and the United Kingdom expressed horror at the price tag of Bt420.

Although probably an error or mistake, it comes with a growing conflict between reports from ordinary people, including expats and Thais, about the cost of living and official Thai government data. It came in a week in which the Ministry of Commerce confirmed 0% inflation for the first six months and when June’s inflation rate was only 0.67%, defying a Reuters poll that predicted 1.13%. Thailand is set to boost renewable energy used in electricity production from 36% to 51% in its latest power-development plan (PDP). Yet, many experts argue that the plan is a blueprint for failure in meeting emissions targets and ensuring energy security.

Under-cooked pork alert: Hearing loss fever claims 24

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has issued a warning against consuming under-cooked or raw pork following an outbreak of Streptococcus suis, otherwise known as hearing loss fever. This outbreak has resulted in approximately 500 infections and 24 fatalities so far.

The announcement was made by Taweechai Wisanuyothin, the director of DDC Regional Office 9 in Nakhon Ratchasima. He revealed that the infection had spread among individuals who had eaten raw or under-cooked pork recently. A closer look at Thailand’s Bt1-trillion land bridge

The plan to build a “land bridge” from the Gulf of Thailand to the Andaman Sea as a route for international trade was given the green light on Oct. 16. The megaproject will forge a new link between the Pacific and Indian oceans, relieving shipping congestion in the Malacca Straits, currently the main regional trade route for cargo.

A plan to accelerate the development of dual railway tracks connecting five countries – Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, and China – was announced at the 4th iTIC FORUM 2023: Power of Connectivity and Smart Mobility.

The 4500km-long Singapore-Kunming rail line, expected to be completed by 2027, aims to boost the capacity of goods and passenger travel, making it more efficient and faster. A poll conducted by Matichon and Daily News, with over 42,848 votes, reflected the voices of the people from all regions of Thailand. The majority, about 60.2%, indicated that the government should prioritize solving economic and cost-of-living issues, with the highest percentage of male respondents at 63.7%.

The survey, conducted online from Oct. 1-31, reached people of all ages, occupations, education levels and income levels across the country. Thailand is expected to remain the second-largest digital economy in Southeast Asia in terms of gross merchandise value (GMV) from 2023 to 2030, according to data in the “eConomy SEA 2023” report.
