Ancient child skeleton unearthed in PKK rewriting prehistory

A remarkable archaeological discovery in a remote cave within Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park has yielded the oldest human skeleton found in Thailand to date, potentially pushing back the timeline of human occupation in the region by tens of thousands of years.

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has warned the public about a spike in influenza after 130,000 infected patients were reported over the past two months.

DDC Director-general Dr. Panumas Yanwetsakul said that 131,826 influenza cases were reported from Jan. 1 to Feb. 24, with a dozen being fatal. Most patients were children aged five to nine, followed by babies and toddlers aged 0-4 and 10-14 years old. Continued …

17 killed, 40 injured as tour bus overturns in Prachin Buri

Over 40 people were injured, and 17 lost their lives after an educational field trip bus overturned while descending Khao San Pu Tone mountain in Prachin Buri’s Na Di district this morning.

Thai nominee crackdown uncovers tourism, property chaos

Authorities have announced progress in a crackdown on foreigners using Thai nominees to illegally run businesses, focusing on tourism and real estate. Between September 2024 and January 2025, a multi-agency taskforce led by the Commerce Ministry prosecuted 820 illegal nominee businesses, with estimated damages totaling 12.5 billion baht, officials revealed on Monday.

Call for regulation as cheap imports hit Thai factories

The government needs to have foreign e-commerce platform operators registered as legal entities, as well as better control the influx of low-cost products into Thailand, which is reducing sales among local manufacturers, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Long-Tail Boat Sinks Near Rang Yai Island, Phuket, Tourists Rescued

A long-tail boat carrying seven tourists, both Thai and foreign, sank near Rang Yai Island in Koh Kaew subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District, yesterday. Fortunately, all passengers were safely rescued by another passing boat.

World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on May 31, with ashtrays and fresh flowers used as a common symbol in marking the occasion. Thailand, however, doesn’t use any common blooms to mark this important day but rather a specific flower – leelawadee.

Leelawadee (plumeria or frangipani), a small flowering tree often grown as cosmopolitan ornamentals, has long been used by Thais as a symbol of quitting personal vices. TC Subaru (Thailand) announced recently that all Subaru vehicles will be imported now that Tan Chong International (TCIL) and Subaru Corp. have decided to cease car-assembly operations in Thailand by year end.

300 baht landing fee ‘unlikely to be scrapped’

Thailand is unlikely to abandon the controversial tourist tax called “Kha Yeap Pan Din” (fee for stepping on Thai soil), also known as a “landing fee”, according to new Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanich.

The Royal Thai Consulate in Sydney has announced it will stop issuing “sticker visas” and go live with eVisa online applications from March 19. The Sydney Consulate will only accept applications from people who live in NSW from that date.

You can apply until March 9 the previous way. As of today, there is no mention of any visa fee increases on their website.

My stay on one of Thailand’s last untouched islands
