If you are in Hua Hin, a short trip to nearby Cha-am offers a mix of nature and community life. Among the highlights are the nightly sight of millions of bats leaving their cave in Na Yang subdistrict and the bustling Wednesday Night Market, the largest of its kind in the area. Suspended prison sentences, fines for owners and driver of school bus fire that killed 23

The Thanyaburi Provincial Court yesterday handed down three suspended sentences to the bus owners and driver responsible for last October’s deadly school bus explosion in Pathum Thani. The blast claimed 23 lives, including teachers and students.

An intensive investigation by the Ministry of Transport revealed the bus was part of a fleet legally modified to run on gas. Is Vietnam Becoming the New Thailand?

In 2015, Thailand was in the midst of a major export boom, running a current account surplus of $28 billion. The following year, the surplus jumped to $43 billion. Thailand maintained these large current account surpluses, anchored by exports of agriculture, manufactured goods, and services, right up until the COVID-19 pandemic.

An economy based around exports like Thailand’s is especially vulnerable to external shocks that disrupt normal patterns of travel and commerce, like pandemics or trade wars. Even now, Thailand is struggling with a slow recovery in exports that has contributed to the country’s weak economic growth. Truck overturns on Phetkasem Road spilling 5 million meth pills

A lorry carrying millions of methamphetamine tablets crashed after a tire burst, scattering its illicit cargo across a stretch of Highway 4 (Phetkasem Road) in Kui Buri district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The driver fled the scene.

Major road works begin at Hua Hin airport tunnel

Major road works have started around Hua Hin Airport as part of a year-long upgrade to prepare the airport for international operations. The project, which began on Aug. 31 and is scheduled to run until Aug. 23, 2026, includes expanding the vehicle and railway tunnels and improving runway safety areas to meet Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) standards.

The construction will see the vehicle tunnel expanded by up to 41.5 meters and the railway tunnel by up to 38.5 meters. Runway safety areas will also be upgraded to enhance the airport’s ability to handle international flights. Continued …

Prachuap Khiri Khan tourism statistics show slight growth

Prachuap Khiri Khan welcomed more than 6.8 million visitors between January and July, according to the latest figures from the provincial office of Tourism and Sports. The number represents a slight year-on-year increase of 0.77%.

Tracing ‘waste colonialism’ in Southeast Asia

For much of the last 50 years, high-income countries have consumed massive amounts of plastic and trash and given little thought to what would become of it. This was largely because it was out of sight, out of mind, as much of that trash ended up being shipped overseas, first to China, and then recently to Southeast Asia and other Global South countries.

But this model could be coming to an end as some of the top waste-importing countries in Southeast Asia have started to ban foreign waste imports this year. Thailand and Indonesia both announced they would stop importing plastic waste in January in an effort to combat toxic pollution. Thousands attend Hua Hin Food Festival

The Hua Hin Food Festival 2025 drew thousands of visitors over the weekend, marking the town’s largest culinary event to date and coinciding with the 88th anniversary of Hua Hin Municipality.

PKK debuts emergency warning system to warn of impeding storms

Cha-am s weighing booze sales on five Buddhist holy days, aiming to draw tourists and give the local economy a lift.

Partial road closures expected for water pipeline work on Sarasong Road

Hua Hin City Municipality will begin installing a new raw water pipeline along Sarosong Road today, with partial road closures expected until Sept. 15. Drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible to minimize delays.

Cha-am School Milk Crisis as Local Dairy Cooperatives Seek Help

The Cha-am–Huai Sai Dairy Cooperative in Phetchaburi Province has warned of a mounting crisis in the school milk program, with excess milk production threatening the livelihoods of dairy farmers across more than 10 provinces in central Thailand.

Somkuan Sawangarom, manager of the cooperative, revealed that the cooperative purchases approximately 23 tons of raw milk daily from local farmers. While part of this milk is used for school milk production, a significant portion remains unsold, forcing the cooperative to sell some milk at reduced prices and risking financial losses this year. Cha-am Drug Party Raid: 52 Arrested at Pool Villa

Police and local officials raided a pool villa in Cha-am, 52 young men and women were allegedly holding a drug-fueled party in the early hours yesterday.

The joint operation, led by Provincial Police Region 7 officers, Cha-am police, and district officials, uncovered a large gathering aged between 16 and 28. Officers seized quantities of ecstasy, ketamine, methamphetamine pills, e-cigarettes, and 30 mobile phones as evidence. All suspects were taken into custody for questioning at Cha-am Police Station. Chiva-Som Hua Hin marks International Mangrove Day with mangrove plantings

Chiva-Som Hua Hin observed International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem on July 26 with a mangrove planting initiative in Thailand.

The team from Chiva-Som planted 500 mangrove trees at the Krailart Niwate Mangrove Ecosystem Preservation Project, located a short distance from the resort. Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense Conference concludes in Hua Hin

Adm. Samuel J. Paparo, commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and Gen. Songwit Noonpakdee, chief of defense forces for the Royal Thai Armed Forces, cohosted the 27th annual Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense Conference, a three-day event held in Hua Hin from Aug. 26-28.

In addition to chiefs of defense and senior military leaders from 29 nations, the Royal Thai Armed Forces headquarters had the honor of welcoming Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Gen. Pickup Truck Crash in Cha-am Injures at Least 12 Workers

At least 12 construction workers were injured when a pickup truck carrying laborers was struck from behind and forced onto a central reservation in Cha-am yesterday evening.
