More on the delayed Hua Hin Airport improvements

Airport delay just normal in Thailand

“Criticism would not change anything because, as is well known, the clocks tick differently in Thailand than in Europe. It is also known that announcements are made long before the actual implementation. But maybe a competent person who has influence on flight connections is reading this. My suggestion would be to create a flight connection between Bangkok, Hua Hin, Phuket and/or Koh Samui. Udon Thani makes little sense to me. Greetings for a long waiting Flight Passenger.” – Willy

Disappointed in airport management

“I am so disappointed in Hua Hin Airport HHQ. Phoenix Aviation was given the contract almost 3 years ago to upgrade the airport terminals and add routes. Air Asia added flights to Udon about 6 months ago and then never opened the route (I got my money back.) Phoenix has fallen down.

“The “authorities” are saying that additional runway expansion and security is needed. They just completed the runway expansion project 6 months ago. A320’s have been landing at HHQ for years! But 30,000 flights per year? 555?

“Now they are saying the roadway bridge tunnel must be lengthened and a train tunnel? Sounds like a 20-year plan. Meanwhile, HHQ has 4 flights a week to CNX. Very disappointing. Mayor Newey, are you listening?” – Scpchris

Is no one worried about airplane noise?

“Where is the concern for homes and people under the flight path? Why are jets not landing and taking off over the water? Single and twin prop planes are no problem but jets are noisy and disruptive.” – MSA

Understanding property ownership in Prachuap Khiri Khan

Contrary to some misconceptions, Thailand allows anyone, regardless of nationality, to own property – be that structures, buildings, and houses.

However, when it comes to land, it is advisable and safer for foreigners to enter into a legally registered lease in their name, granting them the rights to the land during the lease term. Continued …

What happens next in Thailand murder and dismemberment case?

Spanish chef Daniel Sancho, the son of actor Rodolfo Sancho, who has confessed to the murder and dismemberment of Colombian plastic surgeon Edwin Arrieta on the Thai island of Koh Pha-ngan, was remanded in custody Monday by order of the Koh Samui Provincial Court.

His possible cooperation in the investigation, the sentence that may be handed down if he is found guilty and the 1987 agreement signed between Madrid and Bangkok regarding “cooperation in the carrying out of criminal sentences” will decide the outcome of a complex and lengthy process Sancho’s defense hopes will conclude with his transfer to Spain to serve any possible sentence. Analysis: Like It Or Not, Coup-linked General Most Likely To Become PM

Like it or not, Palang Pracharath leader Prawit Wongsuwan will be the most likely person to become prime minister after an upcoming general election, despite the likelihood of a failure on his own part to win most MP seats.

That Prawit will likely have the largest chance of winning the top post of government among all partisan contestants will by no means pertain to a number of MP seats the Palang Pracharath may get in the nationwide election, speculated in early or mid-May, but will decisively hinge on the hands of a coup junta-appointed army of 250 senators, according to political observers. Cha Am has a new ‘naga’ attraction

Tourists have been flocking to a new (ish) cultural landmark in Cha-am, which officials proudly tout as the largest of its kind in all of Thailand. The statue’s body is uniquely crafted as a Yantra talisman, considered the primordial Yantra of all Yantras and regarded as the highest and most sacred. Thai Establishment Thwarts Popular Will with Post-Election Moves

Thailand’s 14 May general election resulted in a stunning triumph for the progressive Move Forward Party and a resounding rejection of political forces associated with the military-backed establishment that has governed since the May 2014 coup d’état.

Campaigning on a platform that directly challenged the military’s prerogatives, as well as those of the bureaucracy, oligarchy and monarchy, the establishment’s other pillars, Move Forward won 14 million votes and 151 seats, 10 more than the runner-up Pheu Thai Party, which had been the largest opposition force in parliament. But events since the election underscore a fundamental problem that animated Move Forward’s reformist agenda: unelected elites – namely, the military and its conservative allies – retain the power to determine political outcomes without regard for the popular will. These 3 Thai Recipes Take Salads to Sour, Sweet, Spicy Heights

When I search the internet for “Thai salads,” what usually pops up are Western adaptations with commonly associated Thai or generally Asian nuances: often a lettuce and cabbage mix with fresh herbs and, more often than not, a creamy nut-based dressing.

But when I actually delve into traditional Thai cooking, specifically the food culture of my mother’s homeland, salads are something of another level. They’re not just the start to a meal or light midday lunch, and peanut sauce dressings are a rare find. These salads go far beyond the confines of lettuce tossed with dressing. Continued …

Silent Semi-Military Coup and the Normalization of Indirect Military Rule

What happened on July 13, and again on the past Wednesday, July 19, was nothing short of a silent semi-military coup, which succeeded in twice rejecting and removing Move Forward Party PM candidate Pita Limjaroenrat from the PM race. It now will most likely succeed in pushing the party, which won the most seats in the general election, into the opposition camp and possibly more.

No tanks have patrolled the streets of Bangkok over the past week, as it was not needed unlike in the conventional military coup. There was no announcement by any coup leader on television. And there was no summoning of opponents of the silent putsch to be detained for “attitude adjustment.” Continued …

People Enjoy The Taste Of “Dog Food,” A Popular Menu

A menu with the most unusual name, “Dog Food Menu,” has become a viral sensation on the Internet. The original restaurant named Auntie Oi is located in the heart of Nakhon Sawan province, in a commercial building near Nakhon Sawan School.

Ananya Phinthong, or Auntie Oi, 60, the cook and owner of the restaurant, said the dog food menu came about unintentionally. This is because her eatery is located near the provincial school, and in the early evening, boarders come in, hungry and wanting to order fried rice. However, it is close to closing time, so the restaurant’s ingredients at that time are only rice and a few packets of instant noodles. Continued …

Pheu Thai to install Srettha as prime minister with coalition pact with government parties

The Move Forward Party is on the verge of being given a sideways shift by its coalition partner, Pheu Thai, as the country grapples with a political crisis caused by opposition to the Move Forward Party from the unelected Senate and heightened tensions over the radical party’s insistence on pursuing its controversial policy to amend Article 112 of the Criminal Code on lèse-majesté.

It is being predicted that a new government led by Pheu Thai with Srettha Thavisin as prime minister may be installed on Thursday, July 27, although it will come at a hefty political price, as it will see Pheu Thai abandoning key pre-election commitments and the democratic principle spoken about at length in the weeks after the May 14 general election. Weather warning issued for Hua Hin, PKK

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued a weather warning for parts of Prachuap Khiri Khan, in effect from today to July 20 (Thursday). The warning covers the districts of Hua Hin, Thap Sakae, Bang Saphan, and Bang Saphan Noi.

The weather conditions are expected to bring heavy to very heavy rains, the warning stated.

Heavy rain forecast for most of Thailand

Heavy rain and flash flooding is forecast to hit the northeast, east, and southern regions over the next few days, while Bangkok and its surrounding areas will also experience rain, heavy at times, over 60% of the total area.

The monsoon trough passing through the upper northern and upper northeastern regions, along with the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea and the southern Gulf of Thailand, is responsible for the increase in rainfall. Residents of the eastern and northeastern regions, as well as those living along the western coast of the southern, should be prepared for flash floods. Continued …

Most People Still Prefer Pita For PM Regardless Of How Long It Takes

Most people still endorse Move Forward leader/prime minister-designate Pita Limjaroenrat’s attempted rise to power, no matter how many rounds of voting in his support from legislators it could possibly take.

According to the latest NIDA Poll conducted between July 11 and July 12 with a total of 1,310 people from all walks of life and all regions of the country, 43.2% of the respondents prefer Pita be eventually voted prime minister regardless of how many rounds of voting in joint House/Senate sessions is necessary. Continued …

Why section 272 is becoming a new focus

The Move Forward Party has shifted its focus to the amendment of Section 272 of the constitution, to exclude senators from the prime minister voting process, after leader of the party, Pita Limjaroenrat, failed to become Thailand’s 30th prime minister on Thursday.

Section 272 empowers the 250 senators to join the 500 members of the House of Representatives to vote for prime minister between 2019 and 2023. In the first bicameral vote in parliament, 159 senators abstained. It is, therefore, in Move Forward’s interest to remove senators from voting for prime minister. Continued …

The statement also calls on the Thai people to join forces with them in their struggle to effect change in Thai society. Continued …

Thailand is at a crossroads because of unelected, unaccountable groups

We stand at a pivotal juncture in our political journey. The triumph of the Move Forward party, a manifestation of our collective will, finds itself precariously on the brink of being undone. It’s an audacious subversion by unelected groups that seem to consider Thailand their personal chessboard.

Our Senate, our Election Commission, and our Constitutional Court have audaciously sought to stifle our democratic voice. These institutions, once meant to serve us, now contemptuously pull at the strings of our governance like unaccountable puppeteers. Continued …
