Woman in Hua Hin Arrested for Allegedly Organizing Fake Weddings

Thai cyber police have apprehended a woman believed to be at the center of an elaborate wedding scam in Hua Hin. Wimonrat, the alleged mastermind behind this matrimonial fraud, has left many couples high and dry after pocketing substantial deposits for venue and wedding preparations that never materialized.

Wimonrat, a 37-year-old resident of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, was a wanted individual with no less than three different arrest warrants issued against her. These date back to early 2021 from courts across Thailand, including Samut Prakan Provincial Court, Chon Buri District Court, and Thon Buri Criminal Court. Her deceitful actions have reportedly caused damages exceeding 150,000 baht (£3,500). Continued …

Fuel Fund revs diesel price to 32.44 baht per liter

The Fuel Fund yesterday announced an increase in the diesel price by 50 satangs per liter, raising it to 32.44 baht per liter effective today. Despite reduced expenses, the fund still faces liquidity issues, according to the director of the Fuel Fund Office, Wisak Wattanaphap.

Auto industry seeks stimulus as sales plummet

Vehicle production in April fell 11.02% year-on-year (YoY) to 104,667 units, and the auto industry is expecting measures from the government to boost demand, according to Surapong Paisitpatanapong, adviser to the president of the Automotive Industry Group.

Decapitated body found in sea off Cha Am beach

Yesterday, local fishermen reported a heavily decaying, headless body floating in the sea near the Cha Am Beach viewpoint, approximately one kilometer from the shore.

First, the drought, now the flooding is back

Schools given go-ahead to make uniforms optional

Schools will be allowed to choose whether to require students to wear uniforms in another surprising initiative from Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob after his toilets-for-all policy.

As the liger, a hybrid offspring of a male lion and a tigress, is not protected by law, the owner of a tiger cub who found it astray in Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province on Thursday had lied to the officials, claiming that it was a liger.

One day later, when wildlife officials went to examine at the Lion Farm, Moo 5, Pak Nam subdistrict, Bang Khla District, Chachoengsao Province, the tiger cub’s owner sent a lion cub to to them for examination. Trang Tourist Boat Overturns, One Fatality

Hua Hin takes ‘long term’ measures to improve water supply

Hua Hin is making strides to address the region’s water supply challenges amid a severe drought by enhancing its infrastructure. On Tuesday, Siraphan Kamonpramot, adviser to the mayor of Hua Hin, led the 12th Coordination, Monitoring, and Inspection Committee meeting to discuss the water supply crisis.

During the meeting, Deputy Mayor Atichat Chaisri detailed plans to install a new raw water pipeline to bolster the production of tap water. Exports down but manufacturers told not to worry

Thailand’s export value in March dropped to $24.96 billion, a decline of 10.9% year on year and the lowest in eight months. The contraction was also the largest in the region, the Thai National Shippers’ Council (TNSC) said on Tuesday.

Heavy rains forecast for mid-May

After enduring severe drought, residents of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province may finally see significant rainfall, as the dry season is expected to end soon. The Office of National Water Resources (ONWR) predicts at least three storms to hit the region by mid-May, potentially alleviating the current drought crisis. #huahindrought

Following the pandemic-induced economic crisis of 2020-21, the new Thai government has been focused on boosting the rate of economic growth. Thailand’s economic growth has fallen more than Southeast Asian neighbors Indonesia or Vietnam due to its high dependence on exports and the tourism sector.

Thailand, Laos and Australia are this week holding a series of activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the 1st Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, the first infrastructure project to reinforce the peace and promote travel, tourism, transportation and trade as a conduit for the economic development of the post-war Indochina region.

The 1,170-kilometer bridge was launched on April 8, 1994, completed ahead of schedule at a cost of $A42 million (750 million baht, at the then exchange rates), including cost of construction, feasible studies, design and fabrication. Funded entirely by the Australian government, it was inaugurated by His Majesty the late King Rama IX the Great, Laotian President Nouhak Poumsavanh and Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating. Thai baht expected to weaken against US dollar

The Thai baht is expected to weaken to an estimated 37.20 baht against the U.S. dollar later this week, due to the continued Middle East tensions, says Kasikorn Research Center (K-Research). The economic indicators from the U.S., due for release this week, are also predicted to bolster the dollar’s strength.

Monday morning trading saw the Thai currency quoted at 36.97 baht to the greenback, the lowest in half a year. This was followed by a minor rally to 36.94-96 baht, in comparison to Friday’s close of 36.86 baht.
