PKK man murders estranged wife

A 60-year-old man has been arrested after stabbing his estranged wife 11 times, fatally wounding her in their home in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Their son has spoken out, revealing that his father was deeply addicted to gambling.

The attack took place at around 5:30 am Tuesday in Ban Na Thong, Khlong Wan subdistrict, Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan. Authorities have announced progress in a crackdown on foreigners using Thai nominees to illegally run businesses, focusing on tourism and real estate. Between September 2024 and January 2025, a multi-agency taskforce led by the Commerce Ministry prosecuted 820 illegal nominee businesses, with estimated damages totaling 12.5 billion baht, officials revealed on Monday.

Thailand’s oldest human skeleton found in Sam Roi Yot National Park

A pre-historic human skeleton from the Palaeolithic period, believed to be more than 29,000 years old, was recently found in a limestone cave, about 125 meters above mean sea level, in the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park in Sam Roi Yot district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Phanombootra Chantarachot, director-general of Fine Arts Department, and Chidchanok Sukmongkol, deputy director-general of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, told the media that, in addition to the skeleton, several pre-historic paintings were found on the cave walls. Truck falls through damaged bridge in Prachuap Khiri Khan

Three days after warnings were issued about the condition of a bridge in Bang Saphan district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, a truck carrying rubber wood fell through a large hole on Saturday.

Prior to the collapse, a local had posted warnings on Feb. 19 about the deteriorating state of the bridge in a Facebook group. The post alerted residents in Prachuap Khiri Khan to the risks on the elevated U-turn road on Phetkasem road, leading to the first Huakheun bridge, which had previously been rebuilt but quickly became unusable once again. Sasikarn Watthanachan, deputy spokeswoman for the prime minister’s office, announced on Saturday that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has officially recognised Phu Phrabat Historical Park in Udon Thani as a World Heritage Site under the name Phu Phrabat, a testimony to the Sima stone tradition of the Dvaravati period.

New 1st-class bus service from Bangkok airports to Hua Hin, Pattaya

State-run Transport Co. will launch a first-class bus service from Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports to Hua Hin and Pattaya on March 8.

There will be two round trips daily between Don Mueang airport and Hua Hin district in Prachuap Khiri Khan, a distance of 216 kilometers per trip. The fare would be 200 baht each way and would take three-and-a-half hours. Continued …

The Council of State, the government’s legal advisory body, has completed its scrutiny of the Entertainment Complex Bill, and an online public hearing will be held until March 1 so that parties can express their concerns before it is sent to Parliament.

“Even though the council has amended some points in the bill, it has added some minor technicalities, such as the specification that only 10% of an entertainment venue will be a casino,” said Atavit Suwanpakdee, chairman of an advisory board to the Minister of Industry. “However, it is still unclear how many locations will be chosen and in which regions.” Continued …

Thailand’s Economy Set for 2.8% Growth in 2025, NESDC Projects

Thailand’s National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) forecasts the country’s economy to expand by 2.8% in 2025, supported by rising government spending and tourism recovery.

Danucha Pichayanan, NESDC secretary-general, reported yesterday that Thailand’s economy grew 3.2% in Q4/2024, bringing the full-year growth to 2.5%, up from 2% in 2023. For 2025, the NESDC projects GDP growth to range between 2.3%-3.3%. Building on this momentum, private consumption is expected to grow by 3.3%, while export value is projected to increase by 3.5% in USD terms. Continued …

Thai dried fruit a hit with Chinese consumers as exports soar

Thailand led global exports of dried fruit to China in the first 10 months of 2024, with sales rising 10.2% from the same period last year to $125.64 million (4.24 billion baht), according to the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP).

The DITP predicts the Chinese market for dried and preserved fruit will reach 335.3 billion yuan (1.55 trillion baht) by 2028 and is urging Thai businesses to capitalize by developing innovative, high-quality products. Continued …

Nissan Motor Thailand will continue to make new investments in Thailand, focusing on hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), though it needs to close a car assembly plant under a plan to adjust its production costs, says the Board of Investment (BoI).

Mercedes-Benz anticipates another gloomy Thai sales year

German luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) expects another tough year for the Thai car market, caused by difficulties for consumers in accessing car loans, as well as high interest rates, which led to a 23% decrease in newly registered premium cars last year.

The total number of registrations stood at 33,472 units. Mercedes-Benz also saw a 30% year-on-year drop in its car sales in Thailand in 2024 to 9,189 vehicles in 2024, the lowest level recorded in three years. Continued …

Minor International is targeting capital expenditure of 10-12 billion baht a year to reach its goal of 1,000 hotels and 4,500 restaurants by 2029, while banking on a boost to Thai growth thanks to the filming of The White Lotus at its four resorts.
