Heart-stopping encounter as wild elephant charges tourist vehicle in La-U Forest, Hua Hin

Panic erupted on the Nong Phlap–Huai Sat Yai road in Hua Hin when a wild elephant with long tusks charged at a family’s vehicle en route to La-U Waterfall. Quick action by a park ranger, who reversed his truck to block the elephant , prevented serious injury. Both vehicles were slightly damaged, but fortunately, no one was hurt.

The incident showed the elephant approaching a family car, while another vehicle, believed to be a ranger’s, moved to intercept. Amid the chaos, the two vehicles collided lightly before the elephant was guided back into the forest. Continued …

Thailand connects 10,000+ facilities to national digital health platform

The Ministry of Public Health has reported major progress in Thailand’s digital health policy, with more than 10,000 service units now connected to the national Personal Health Record (PHR) system. The platform contains records for over 64.7 million patients, while more than one million electronic referrals and nearly 1.7 million radiographic images have been processed through linked digital systems.

Permanent Secretary Opas Karnkawinpong said the MOPH Digital Health Platform is designed to integrate data across service units and ease workloads for both patients and medical personnel. Currently, 10,628 facilities are connected to the PHR system, 2,824 facilities utilize the MOPH REFER system for patient transfers, and 589 facilities share images through the MOPH Imaging Hub. Finance Ministry warns 2025 revenue shortfall amid weak economy

An armored vehicle carrying soldiers was ambushed with a bomb and follow-up gunfire in Su-ngai Padi district, Narathiwat, leaving four personnel injured. The attack targeted an RIVA armored vehicle from Ranger Company 4811 while it was on a route security patrol at Ban Bue Rang, Moo 3, To Deng subdistrict, yesterday morning. Some troops were trapped inside the vehicle before rescue workers managed to extract them.

The Bank of Thailand is expediting efforts to unlock the financial transactions of suspended accounts affected by investigations into mules. In collaboration with relevant agencies, the regulator is upgrading its operational processes to better distinguish between mule accounts and legitimate ones, allowing the public to transfer money as usual.

Under the new system, banks will be able to unlock suspended transactions within one day, or as quickly as 3–4 hours per case, compared with the previous 3–7 days. For much of the last 50 years, high-income countries have consumed massive amounts of plastic and trash and given little thought to what would become of it. The Bank of Thailand expects the country’s economic growth to fall below its potential next year, weighed down by sluggishness in several sectors. Police have arrested members of the infamous “Sergeant M16” drug trafficking network, a syndicate accused of moving more than 10 million methamphetamine pills, during a raid on a pool villa in Hua Hin.

The operation, led by Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau investigators and Romsai police, resulted in the capture of four high-value suspects, each carrying a government-issued bounty of 1.5 million baht. Bangkok Bank enforcing stricter account verification

Bangkok Bank has recently begun enforcing stricter account verification requirements, in line with new government directives aimed at boosting security and cracking down on cybercrime and scams. Customers have been asked to visit their branch with identification documents, such as a passport, to verify their account details.

However, many foreign customers have reported that their accounts were suspended — leaving them unable to withdraw cash, transfer funds, or pay bills. Even after completing the verification process, some expats have reported their accounts being frozen for up to seven days.

Other banks are expected to adopt similar measures soon, as part of broader changes to Thailand’s banking and SIM card registration systems. – HHT

Young elephant dies in PKK after attack by larger elephant

A young female elephant from the Pa La-U area was found dead in the Huai Sat Yai reservoir after being fatally injured in an attack by a larger elephant, officials confirmed yesterday.
