Chatchai Market renovation plans revealed

Hua Hin officials have revealed more plans about the renovation of the iconic Chatchai Market. The decision to upgrade the market is aimed at enhancing the shopping experience and ensuring hygienic standards.

Under the new plan, Chatchai Market will feature a total of 44 stalls, each with dimensions of 2×2 meters, dedicated to the sale of food items, souvenirs, and local products. In addition to the commercial spaces, the renovation will introduce separate male and female restrooms, dish washing zones, dining areas, and an updated electrical system complete with CCTV surveillance. Check Point Software Technologies, a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions globally, has revealed that Thai organizations have been subject to 1,892 cyber attacks per week over the last half year — an alarmingly high valuation compared to the global average of 1,040, per Check Point’s latest Threat Intelligence Report.

Phuket police investigators are questioning four Russian suspects involving in the kidnapping case of a Russian couple, demanding crypto currency worth some 30 million baht as ransom.

Suvarnabhumi expects 2.3-million tourists for Chinese New Year

A high-pressure system or moderate cold air mass continues to cover Thailand and the South China Sea, leading to cooler morning temperatures across several regions of the country. The Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) forecast that the north, northeast, central, eastern, and upper southern parts will experience cold weather in the mornings.

In a bid to ensure the safety of food, the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) has developed a portable device to detect pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables. The device, called K-Veggie Screen, uses electrochemical sensors to measure the concentration of pesticides in food.

Tourist Speedboat Collides with Reef, 12 Tourists and 3 Crewmates Rescued

On Wednesday, the Trat Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center (CARDC) received an emergency report of a speedboat colliding with a reef, causing a shipwreck 16 miles away from the Laem Thian area, Koh Kood, Trat.

Thai air force to battle surging fine dust pollution crisis

With fine dust pollution surging to alarming levels in Thailand, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has tasked the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) with spearheading the nation’s countermeasures. Air Force Chief, ACM Phanpakdee Pattanakul, confirmed the directive on Tuesday.

Power bills likely stable in 2024

Electricity bills in Thailand are unlikely to be trimmed from the existing rate, as the power tariff, which is used to calculate the bills, is expected to stay in a range of 4.2-4.25 baht per kilowatt-hour (unit), says Khomgrich Tantravanich, secretary-general of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

Thailand’s escalating smog crisis: Choking smog in 55 provinces

People in 55 of the 77 provinces were breathing dirty air this morning, with red-coded pollution levels in 20 provinces, mainly in the Central Plains.

The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) reported at 9am that unsafe levels of particulate matter 2.5 micrometers and less in diameter (PM2.5) ranged from 38.7 to 113.6 micrograms per cubic meter of air over the previous 24 hours. Bottled water contains more plastic particles than thought

A typical one-liter (33-ounce) bottle of water contains some 240,000 plastic fragments on average, according to a new study. Many of those fragments have historically gone undetected, the researchers determined, suggesting that health concerns linked to plastic pollution may be dramatically underestimated.

The peer-reviewed study, published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, is the first to evaluate bottled water for the presence of “nanoplastics” — plastic particles under 1 micrometer in length, or one-seventieth the width of a human hair. The findings show that bottled water could contain up to 100 times more plastic particles than previously estimated, as earlier studies only accounted for microplastics, or pieces between 1 and 5,000 micrometers. The Board of Investmens (BOI) has approved measures to promote investment to address the issue of PM2.5 particulate pollution, according to the organization’s secretary-general, Narit Therdsteerasukdi.

The measures involve expanding the scope of support through investment promotion measures for community and social development. It encompasses support for local organizations and groups of farmers to enhance environmental standards in communities. This would include forest management in targeted areas, including community forests, conservation forests, and national forest reserves, in order to alleviate the nationwide issue of PM2.5 particulate pollution.
