10,000 expected for Muay Thai fight night in Pak Nam Pran Sunday

More than 10,000 people are expected to attend the final round of “Thau Fight King of Muay Thai” event in Pak Nam Pran this November, as organizers gear up for one of the province’s major sporting events of the year.

Scheduled to take place on Sunday, Nov. 2, the final will be held at Maharaj Park in Pak Nam Pran, Pranburi District, Prachuap Khiri Khan. Delivery app rivals cut fees

Line Man Wongnai has trimmed its gross profit (GP) fee to 7%-9% to match that offered by Grab for merchants who participate in the “Khon La Khrueng Plus” co-payment scheme.

Meanwhile, the Robinhood app offers 0% GP for every order in Khon La Khrueng Plus during the period of Nov. 3 to Dec. 19 this year. This offer is available to the first 5,000 restaurants that join Robinhood’s food delivery service under the Khon La Khrueng Plus program. Continued …

Bangkok Tops Global List as Least Affordable City for Renters

Bangkok has been labeled the least affordable city in the world for renters, according to the Housing Affordability Review 2025 by German asset manager DWS. The report highlights that a typical median household in Bangkok spends approximately 79% of their disposable income on renting a two-bedroom flat, marking the Thai capital as the priciest city in terms of rent-to-income ratio.

This year’s findings are consistent with DWS’ inaugural study from last year, which also ranked Bangkok as the least affordable. Following Bangkok are Mumbai and Mexico, with renters spending 66% of their income, while Hong Kong and Johannesburg take the fourth and fifth spots, with ratios above 60% and 58%, respectively. Finance Minister issues warning on year-end growth and rising cost of public debt

Thailand’s new finance minister, Ekniti Nitithanprapas, has sounded an alarm over the country’s worsening economy, warning it is “in danger of falling into an abyss.” Speaking yesterday, just a month into his tenure, Ekniti said growth projections for the final quarter of 2025 had collapsed to just 0.3%, making the government’s 2% annual target effectively unreachable.

He said soaring borrowing costs are devouring funds that should be driving development and investment, leaving the economy starved of growth capital. The warning comes as Thailand faces the looming threat of a credit downgrade from Moody’s and Fitch, both of which have already issued stark alerts this year, a move that analysts say could rattle investor confidence and push borrowing costs even higher. TDRI Warns of Major Risks in Thailand’s Reciprocal Trade Deal with US

The Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) is urging the Thai government to monitor seven critical issues arising from its new reciprocal trade agreement framework with the United States, warning that the risks could outweigh the benefits.

US Grants 0% Tariffs on Some Thai Products Under New Trade Pact

The United States has officially approved a 0% import tariff for specific products originating from three key members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN): Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. The decision, formalized under new agreements, was announced during the recent ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

Exports expected to grow by up to 10.4%

The Ministry of Commerce estimates that exports will grow by 9.4%-10.4% this year, driven by clearer US tariffs, global economic recovery, and rising demand for digital technology products, agricultural products, and food.

US says Thailand agrees to lift trade barriers, make required purchases

Thailand has agreed to the removal of barriers on US food, farm, medical, digital, and film products, and to make a huge aircraft procurement and annual purchases of energy and farm products with preset minimal values, according to the United States government. Long-term purchases incude 80 US planes costing US18.8 billion.

Thai industry jittery over US tariff rules

Thailand’s manufacturing sector is struggling to deal with challenges raised by US tariff rules on Thai imports, even as the rate was cut significantly in early August.

Washington decided to impose a 19% duty on Thai products in August, replacing its draconian rate of 36%. Yet exporters risk facing higher rates on some products if the items are considered by US authorities as being shipped to Thailand and then re-exported to America, often called transshipment. Thai September exports stronger than expected

Customs-cleared exports rose 19.0% in September from a year earlier, the fastest rate of growth in 42 months, the commerce ministry said today, comfortably beating analysts’ expectations. The reading for September compared with a forecast 7.0% year-on-year increase in a Reuters poll, and followed a rise of 5.8% in August.

Thailand rolls out rice rescue plan to lift farmer incomes

Thailand’s Commerce Ministry announced new measures to support rice farmers by stabilizing paddy prices and managing the flow of 14 million tons. Wittayakorn Maneenetr, director-general of the Internal Trade Department, said the new strategy could result in an average price increase of 3% to 5% for paddy rice.

Petrol, diesel pump prices cut

The energy minister yesterday ordered a reduction in pump prices of 50 satang per liter for diesel and 30 satang for all kinds of petrol, effective from 5am today.

The price of standard diesel will fall from 31.44 baht to 30.94 baht per liter. Retailers will decide whether to apply the cut to premium diesel. Continued …

The Ministry of Transport has confirmed that Bangkok’s three main intercity bus terminals – Mo Chit 2, Ekkamai, and Sai Tai – will not relocate to Bang Sue Grand Station as previously considered. Instead, plans focus on enhancing the existing facilities and transport connectivity.

Belarusian model kidnapped from Bangkok, killed for organs by scammers in Myanmar

A young Belarusian model who traveled to Bangkok for a job interview on Sept. 20 was abducted and taken to a scam center in Myanmar where she was murdered and her organs sold, according to media reports.

According to these reports the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the incident involving Vera Kravtsova, 26, and is assisting the family through diplomatic channels. Lifeguards on a popular Phuket beach have reported a surge in jellyfish stings affecting tourists, with several victims requiring urgent hospital care. The incidents, which have involved the notoriously venomous box jellyfish, have left beachgoers with burning skin, rashes, and, in some cases, serious allergic responses.

Thailand Plans Jan 31 House Dissolution, March 29 Election Day

The Thai government has tentatively set January 31st as the date for dissolving the House, aiming to hold a general election on March 29. The plan also includes proposing a new Constitution and conducting a public referendum. These steps are part of the agreement with the opposition People’s Party, promising dissolution after four months in office.

Since the government began its term on Oct.1, the timeline dictates the House must dissolve by the end of January. Following this, the general election should occur within 60 days, making March 29 the proposed date. Bangkok’s giant sinkhole expanding

The filling of the huge sinkhole on Bangkok’s Samsen Road will require much more sand that earlier thought because it’s getting bigger, according to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority.

Among these offerings, the most ubiquitous item is the Thai flower garland, or phuang malai.

Why Thais Call Indians ‘Khaek’

If you’ve spent time in Thailand, you may have heard locals use the term “khaek” to refer to people of Indian descent. But what does it really mean, and why is it used in this context?

In Thai language, the word “khaek” (แขก) literally translates to “guest.” Unlike some terms used to describe foreigners, like “farang” (ฝรั่ง) for Westerners or “jek”(เจ๊ก) for Chinese, which can carry negative connotations in certain contexts, “khaek” is a respectful term. Foreigners working legally in Thailand now face stricter tax compliance requirements, as the government moves to align its system with international standards. With more than 3.3 million registered foreign workers as of latest data, authorities are stepping up enforcement to ensure all individuals earning income in the country meet their personal income tax obligations.

Under Thai law, any foreigner residing in the country for 180 days or more within a calendar year is considered a tax resident. Non-residents are only taxed on income earned within Thailand. Another Pattaya jumper; American ran out of money

A 70-year-old American man was found dead after jumping from an 11-story condominium in Pattaya early yesterday. Police said he left a handwritten note explaining that he had run out of money.

Kaspersky: Thailand among top targets for web threats

Thailand’s cybersecurity systems remain vulnerable to a high number of attacks, according to cybersecurity firms. Kaspersky said Thailand logged the most incidents in Southeast Asia with 2.52 million web threats in the first half of 2025, followed by Malaysia and Indonesia with 1.70 million and 1.63 million, respectively.

Yemeni conman arrested in Hua Hin for Bt1.15-milion foreign-exhange scam

Police have arrested a 43-year-old man in Hua Hin after he pulled off a brazen scam at foreign exchange booths six times in just nine days. Yemeni national Nabil Mohammed Yahya Zaid stole a total of Bt1.15 million by convincing tellers he had already deposited the foreign currency required for each transaction.

Authorities say the operation was carefully planned and that Zaid likely had an accomplice. A Kenyan man has been arrested in connection with the case. Expect a warmer cold season this year

The cold season in Thailand is forecast to arrive at the end of this month, which is about two weeks later than normal. The weather will not be as cold as last year, according to the Meteorological Department.

Phuket airport forecasts 16 million passengers this year

Phuket International Airport expects to welcome more than 16 million passengers this year, driven by rising international arrivals and new direct flight routes from Europe and Asia, said airport director Monchai Tanode.

Imported Solar Panels Save Lives and Cut Billions in Climate Costs

As debates over clean energy supply chains intensify, new research led by Professor Gang He (GC/Baruch College, Earth and environmental sciences/public affairs) demonstrates that imported solar panels have provided far more than affordable electricity: They have also protected public health and the environment.

“Global supply chains have helped make solar power affordable,” He said. “But what’s often missed is how these imports also clean the air, protect health, and reduce climate damages. These are benefits that extend well beyond electricity prices.” Continued …

Hua Hin tourist train programs announced

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has launched seasonal travel programs featuring its Japanese-style KIHA 183 and luxury SRT Royal Blossom trains, running every weekend from October to December 2025.

The announcement is part of SRT’s late rainy to early cool season tourism calendar, aimed at offering passengers a mix of cultural, natural, and leisure experiences. Tickets went on sale on Oct. 5 and are available at all stations nationwide and through the SRT D-Ticket online system. Continued …

PM Anutin cools Trump’s peace bid in Thai-Cambodian conflict

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has poured cold water on Us President Trump’s attempt to mediate peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia, stressing that any negotiations must meet strict conditions agreed upon by Bangkok.

US President Donald Trump has said he is willing to attend the ASEAN summit in Malaysia later this month — as long as he can preside over the signing of a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, according to a US news site.

Pattana Promphat, the minister of public health (MOPH), announced yesterday that as part of the ministry’s urgent four-month “Quick Win” policy agenda, a key initiative is “Doctors Not Exhausted, Citizens Not Waiting: Connecting All Services Through Technology.”

Three bomb blasts in Yala disrupt city center

Inflation expectations crash to 0% as BoT denies deflation

The Bank of Thailand claims it has not observed deflation in the Thai economy, even as it lowered its inflation forecast for this year to 0%, driven by declines in energy and fresh food prices.
