Warning: It’s heat stroke weather

Heat stroke is a real danger with “feels like” temperatures of around 50 degrees Celsius possible in the current humid conditions, the weather office warns.

The Meteorological Department said that on Tuesday feels-like temperatures peaked at 50.6°C in Trat, 48.1°C in Bangkok, 42.5°C in Krabi, 39.9°C in Tak and 38.7°C in Nakhon Ratchasima. Continued …

Temperatures predicted to exceed 40 degrees next week

Temperatures are expected to surpass 40 degrees Celsius in several provinces next week, as tomorrow the “heat index” is expected to reach 48.1 degrees in Bangkok and 51.4 degrees in Chon Buri, according to Somkuan Tonjan, head of the Central Weather Forecast Division of the Meteorological Department.

Phuket Authorities Conduct Extensive Land Inquiry After Swiss Man Case

Even though Mr. Fehr, also known as David, the Swiss man accused of kicking a female doctor, is currently facing deportation, he has been ordered to stay in the country while he is investigated for several issues, including his involvement in Phuket property ownership.

A CCTV camera caught a foreign man stealing a Thai flag from outside an office in Phuket. Thai netizens urged the police to take the case seriously as the Thai flag is highly respected by locals.

Thailand’s social security fund faces bankruptcy risk in 30-40 years

The Labo r Ministry raised the alarm that the Social Security Fund (SSF) of Thailand is on the brink of bankruptcy, and could be insolvent in 30 to 40 years if there are no changes made to its current policies.

This warning was issued during a meeting between the newly established Social Security Board (SSB) headed by Sustarum Thammaboosadee, an academic from Thammasat University, and officials from the Labor Ministry. Tax breaks triple Thailand’s electric vehicle registrations

Huge road tax discounts saw the registration of electric vehicles soar by over 300% in the first four months of fiscal 2024 (October-January), Thailand’s Department of Land Transport (DLT) said on Tuesday.

A total of 48,096 EVs were registered during the period, up 324% from 11,340 in the same period a year earlier. The DLT attributed the jump to the annual tax break for newly registered complete built-up EVs, which began in May last year and will run until November 2025. Continued …

Consumers biggest losers as speeds drop, prices rise after telecom mergers

Mergers in the telecommunications industry have resulted in poor network quality and rising prices, the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) said on Tuesday.

NESDC was citing a recent survey by the Consumer Protection Board, which said that consumers are paying more for very little. For instance, it said, the price of a basic mobile package has risen from 349 baht to 399 baht, while the internet speed has dropped. Thailand is among the countries that that have been blamed for the captive breeding of wild animals, especially the breeding of elephants for their role in the tourism industry.
