Bus accident in PKK’s Thap Sakae leaves 14 dead, 35 injured

At least 14 people were killed and 35 others injured when a tour bus left the road and crashed into a tree in Thap Sakae, Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The incident took place at around 1am on Tuesday and involved a Bangkok-Nathawi passenger bus, which veered off the road and collided with a tree near Petchkasem Road, close to the entrance to Hat Wanakorn National Park. Continued … 

8-billion-baht scheme to tackle PM2.5 pollution approved

To mitigate the escalating PM2.5 pollution problem, the government recently approved a scheme worth 8 billion baht designed to incentivize sugarcane farmers to modify their harvesting methods.

The initiative, which is set to be implemented in the 2022/23 harvest year, encourages farmers to cut fresh sugarcane without burning the residue, a practice known to be a significant contributor to the pollution issue. Continued …

Thailand Remembers King Bhumibol with Nationwide Tributes

Thailand commemorates King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s birthday anniversary today, a day also celebrated as National Day and Father’s Day. The Ministry of Culture (MOC) has announced a series of cultural and religious events nationwide to pay tribute to the King’s significant impact on Thai society and culture.

Culture Minister Sermsak Pongpanich has outlined the planned activities, which include Buddhist chanting, public service initiatives, and showcasing King Bhumibol’s musical talents, especially in jazz. Hua Hin Railway Station set to be preserved as new modern facility opens

The iconic Hua Hin Railway Station is set to be preserved as a historical site, amid preparations to shift railway operations to the new, modern station from Dec. 11.

Komkrit Charoenpatanasombat, the deputy governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, along with members of the Hua Hin/Cha Am Tourism Business Assn., visited the station on Monday, where he discussed with the officials at Hua Hin Railway Station about the relocation to the new dual-track facility. Continued …

The new Hua Hin Health Park opened yesterday as part of its soft opening. The multipurpose health facility is located near the Hua Hin International School and Black Mountain Golf Course.

Thailand’s weekly Covid-19 cases surge over 500, with three fatalities

The Department of Disease Control in Thailand (DDC) reported a sudden surge in weekly Covid-19 cases, with over 500 new patients and three fatalities. The DDC revealed 88 cases of pneumonia among Covid patients. The report, which covers the period from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2, confirms an average of 76 hospital admissions and one death per day.

Since the start of the year, the total number of Covid cases has reached 36,204, with 826 cumulative deaths. Among these, 88 patients have been diagnosed with pneumonia and 40 required respiratory support. Continued …

Makro given 30 days to explain alleged buying of smuggled pork

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has set a deadline of 30 days for the hypermart chain Makro to explain reports alleging that it has been buying fresh pork from a company whose owners have been arrested on smuggling charges.

The 30-day limit started on Monday, said Police Maj. Gen. Natapol Ditsayatham, DSI’s expert on consumer protection and environment crime, who is leading the investigation. Continued …

Shopping refund gets nod

The cabinet on Monday approved a tax refund scheme for shopping to stimulate domestic spending early next year and promote wider use of electronic invoices, according to the Finance Ministry.

Pornchai Thiraveja, the ministry’s spokesman and chief of the Fiscal Policy Office, said under the “Easy E-Receipt” program, individuals can receive a tax deduction of up to 50,000 baht for purchases of goods and services from business operators backed by the e-tax system between Jan. 1 and Feb. 15 next year. Farmers in Thailand look indoors to plant strawberries, veggies and cannabis

In the past year, pedestrians in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Road have been drawn to a pinkish hue from a large window on the busy street. Many of them peer through the window and are surprised to see dozens of layers of strawberry plants stacked high behind the glass.

“People are attracted by the window, and they are more than welcome to come in and find out more about Varmers,” said Geert Liezenga, founder and chief executive of the company that grows strawberries through vertical farming. Continued …

Surachate Hakparn, also known by the public as “Big Joke”, is to take over the investigation into an underage sex scandal in Pattaya exposed in a German TV documentary aired in recent days, which targeted Pattaya as a haven for sex tourists and those seeking under age sex services.

Groups urge government to scrap 4am opening

Temperance groups and road safety advocates are urging the government to rethink its plan to allow bars, clubs and other entertainment venues to operate until 4am, saying authorities have not taken the necessary precautions to prevent alcohol-related accidents.

The calls come about a week after the Interior Ministry issued an announcement allowing bars and clubs in Bangkok and Phuket, Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui on Surat Thani, to open until 4am starting from Dec. 15. Continued …

The government will revise the 5.1-billion-baht budget that was earmarked for national arts and culture promotion projects by the National Soft Power Development Committee (NSPDC) as it is considered too much, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said on Monday.

The PM said he wanted to make sure that every baht of the budget would be used in the most effective way possible after the committee wrapped up its second meeting on Nov. 30 with a 5.164-billion-baht proposal. Continued …
