Ministry of Labor plans to raise the retirement age

The new Thai government is preparing to raise the retirement age in response to the country’s declining workforce, which is gradually becoming the dominant factor in the economy’s inability to grow at the same speed as other Southeast Asian economies.

The country’s social security system needs to be reformed to cope with increased demand to pay for pensions, as more workers are opting for early retirement rather than continuing to work in the employment market. Many may eventually drift back into the country’s informal economy, which accounts for 50% of GDP. Continued …

PM Opens SAT-1, Praises Well-Planned Suvarnabhumi Infrastructure

Srettha Thavisin, the prime minister and minister of finance, presided over the soft launch of Satellite 1 (SAT-1) yesterday. He praised the previous government of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra for the well-planned infrastructure, including the terminal, which has facilitated future expansions and enabled faster connectivity to SAT-1.

“The Thaksin Shinawatra government laid the foundation, and at that time the construction of the terminal was cost-effective. It had a far-reaching vision that has now resulted in significant budget savings. It is now in excellent condition and well suited for the time when we are opening the country to tourists and boosting the economy through tourism. “In Thailand, visitors need only worry about a wet or dry season. Either way, it will be hot and most likely, humid,” says Rosemarie Domdom, the director of sales and marketing at Rosewood Bangkok. Thai Airways to focus on popular tourist destinations

Thai International Airways Plc. (THAI) is aiming to capture 40% of the Thai market after integrating its “Thai Smile” subsidiary. It also plans to expand its routes, particularly to popular destinations in Japan, and expects a surge in winter flights.

“We aim to be the preferred choice for a significant portion of the Thai population. Other national carriers currently serve around 40%-50% of their home country’s market. In contrast, our market share is smaller due to our initial status as a state enterprise. The shift from a state enterprise to a private entity has facilitated our expansion plans,” Chai said. Aunties Lead Southern Thailand’s Fishing Communities

“Men are the elephant’s front feet” is a famous Thai saying, meaning men are the leaders in a family. This has long been the dominant narrative in a rather patriarchal country, but especially in fishing communities. Traditionally, men are responsible for offshore fishing to feed family members. Women, on the other hand, oversee household activities and take care of children and family members.

But in the Chana community, a coastal village in the southern province of Songkhla, things are different. Here, women participate in offshore fishing, leading the sustainable development of the community, as well as movements that protect the ocean. Continued …
