Thai Police arrest one of Europe’s most wanted in Hua Hin

Thailand’s trade deficit with China has widened significantly, reaching 768 billion baht in the first five months of 2025 (January–May) — a sharp increase of over 200 billion baht from the same period last year, according to a report from the Ministry of Commerce.

Thailand car production rises for first time in nearly 2 years

Car production in Thailand rose 10.3% in May from a year earlier, with the first annual rise in 22 months helped by higher pickup truck output for export markets, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) said on  Tuesday.

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. Hua Hin Food Festival to return in August

Hua Hin City Municipality is moving forward with plans to host this year’s Hua Hin Food Festival, with the event set to return in August. A preparatory meeting was held last week to plan the 2025 edition of the popular annual festival, which draws large crowds eager to sample a diverse selection of culinary offerings.

Hard Rock Cafe coming to Hua Hin Hilton

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) reported the Covid-19 situation on Wednesday, stating that Bangkok continues to have the highest number of daily cases, with the nationwide total reaching 439,527 confirmed cases for the year.

The Thai Meteorological Department announced today that a monsoon trough is currently lying across the north and upper northeast of Thailand, while a strong southwest monsoon prevails over the Andaman Sea, the south, and the Gulf of Thailand. Over half of Thais may fall into debt due to overspending

More than 50% of working Thai people have savings amounting to less than six months of their salaries and there is a tendency to easily fall into a cycle of debt due to their habit of overspending, according to Danucha Pichayanan, secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC).

New law expands venues selling alcohol despite Buddhist fest bans

The government is set to widen the scope of venues permitted to sell alcoholic beverages daily, following the enactment of a new law last week. This legislation allows five categories of venues to sell alcohol.

Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong stated that the new law, announced in the Royal Gazette on May 9 and effective from May 10, continues the prohibition of alcohol sales during Buddhist festivals such as Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha, Asanha Bucha, and the start and end of Buddhist Lent. Don’t get too excited over news the temporary trade deal between China and the U.S. will mean friendly negotiations with other countries. The U.S. government still aims for higher import tax income to narrow its monstrous fiscal deficit.

Donald Trump would love to see an average tariff rate of around 20% or higher on imports. Higher customs revenue already allowed the U.S. to achieve a budget surplus of US$258 billion (8.5 trillion baht) in April. The figure incorporates only a 10% universal tariff, as full reciprocal tariffs were postponed for 90 days from April 8. Thai hotels see 30% drop in Chinese tourists, occupancy rate falls to 52% in May

Thailand’s tourism sector has entered the full low season, and private businesses are increasingly concerned about the foreign tourist market. Not only are there no positive factors supporting growth, but negative influences are compounding.

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the number of foreign tourists between May 1–11 reached 851,912, while the total for Jan. 1–May 11 stood at 12,948,032 — a decrease of 1.04% compared to the same period last year. Thai officials said yesterday they seized 238 tons of illegally imported electronic waste from the United States at the port of Bangkok, one of the biggest lots they’ve found this year.

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

Aircraft Wreckage Recovery Delayed Following Police Aviation Crash in Sea

Authorities have successfully retrieved the main wreckage of the aircraft from the sea and have collected scattered debris from the surrounding area. These parts are now being stored along the Hua Hin beach, near the 509th Special Operations Airwing in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The recovery and the transfer of wreckage from the police aviation havs been delayed. Experts are expected to arrive between May 3 and May 8 to assist in the removal operation. Continued …

The State Railway of Thailand plans to provide a free wi-fi service on long-haul trains to the north, northeast and south, starting late this year.

Lampang province is experiencing a severe outbreak of diarrhea, with over 3,000 cases reported. The outbreak is widespread, with no apparent link to consumption of specific foods, and is believed to be triggered by the unusually hot weather making food spoil more easily.

Volunteer Officer Ambushed and Killed Near Base in Yala

A volunteer security officer in Bannang Sata district, Yala province, was ambushed and killed late on 27 AprilSunday while on a brief trip to a local shop, just 300 meters from his operational base. The attackers later set fire to both the officer’s car and his body.

The victim had driven from his base at Taling Chan subdistrict to purchase supplies at a grocery shop. As he exited his vehicle, gunmen hiding in nearby overgrowth opened fire with automatic weapons. Thailand is waiting for the United States to give a reply on when it will hold talks on trade tariffs, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said. Thailand’s Alcoholic Beverage Board has decided to maintain the ban on alcohol sales during five major Buddhist holy days, but with some exceptions to support tourism. The new rules are expected to start before Visakha Bucha Day on May 11.

Nationwide inspection of land allocated to farmers ordered

Chalermchai Sri-on, Natural Resources and Environment minister, has ordered all provincial governors to conduct urgent inspections of 7.2 million rai (2.846 million acres) of land distributed to farmers by the National Land Policy Committee (NLPC). Any land found to have been sold or transferred will be seized, with offending farmers losing all future rights.

Q1 GDP growth seen at 3.4%

Thailand’s economy is expected to grow 3.4% in the first quarter of 2025 from a year earlier, which would be the fastest pace in 10 quarters, helped by government stimulus measures, a deputy finance minister said today.

Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy is on an upward trend, Paopoom Rojanasakul said on a local television program. 24 million people in Thailand face risks associated with multidimensional poverty

Thailand has made significant progress in reducing poverty, but still faces challenges, as around 24 million citizens remain vulnerable to multidimensional poverty, according to a report from the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC).

While the country has halved its multidimensional poverty rate since 2015, a closer look at the data reveals a more complex situation. Of the 7.17 million Thais classified as poor in 2023, about 4.78 million face multidimensional poverty without financial hardship, 1.04 million experience financial poverty exclusively, and 1.35 million contend with both financial difficulties and quality of life challenges. ADB upgrades Thailand growth forecast, trims developing Asia’s outlook

The Asian Development Bank has upgraded Thailand’s GDP forecast for this year and kept the forecast for next year unchanged. The bank also said developing Asia is likely to grow more slowly than previously thought this year and next, and the outlook could worsen if President-elect Donald Trump makes swift changes to U.S. trade policy.
