The Thai Meteorological Department reported today that easterly and southeasterly winds prevail over the northeast, while the weakened southwest monsoon continues over the Andaman Sea, the south, Thailand’s central region, and the Gulf.

Thailand will need more renewables and storage to meet demand from EVs and data centers

Thailand committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 30% below a business-as-usual level, which is about 388 million tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO2), by 2030. With adequate international support, Thailand will aim for a 40% reduction, or 333 MtCO2. To meet carbon neutrality by 2050, Thailand will need to reduce its GHG emissions by 73%-83% compared to 2015 levels.

Given that the energy sector accounted for about 69% of total emissions in 2019, decarbonizing it will be indispensable to cut emissions. Within the energy sector, the power and transport sectors took up to 68% of total emissions in 2022. Therefore, accelerating renewable energy integration in the power system and electrification of the transport and industry sectors are crucial. Continued …

Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense Conference concludes in Hua Hin

Adm. Samuel J. Paparo, commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and Gen. Songwit Noonpakdee, chief of defense forces for the Royal Thai Armed Forces, cohosted the 27th annual Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defense Conference, a three-day event held in Hua Hin from Aug. 26-28.

In addition to chiefs of defense and senior military leaders from 29 nations, the Royal Thai Armed Forces headquarters had the honor of welcoming Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Gen. The deputy director-general of the Customs Department, Yutana Phoolpipat, announced a hefty reduction in import duties on over 10,000 items from the United States. Overstaying Scottish tourist shot in road rage incident

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. Electricity price will be cut to 4.15 baht per unit for January-April

The Ministry of Energy has agreed to cut the price of electricity by three satang, from 4.18 baht per unit to 4.15 baht, from January through April next year.

Thailand’s economic growth is projected at 2.7% this year and 2.9% next year, reflecting planned fiscal stimulus measures and a pickup in public investment, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said.

Thai factory output down 0.91% y/y in October, seen rising in 2025

Thailand’s manufacturing production index dropped 0.91% in October from a year earlier, the industry ministry said on Wednesday, falling less than analysts’ expectations. The figure compared with a forecast fall of 1.85% for October in a Reuters poll, and followed an annual drop of 3.51% in September.
