Water pipe work to disrupt service today

There will be disruptions and low water pressure in many areas of Hua Hin today until 8pm. Essential work is being carried out to the water pipes at Hua Na on Soi 112, resulting in no or low water pressure from Hua Na and Nong Kae, to as far north as the intersection at Hua Hin Airport.

Strengthening monsoon to bring storms to all of Thailand

Provinces throughout Thailand are likely to experience thundershowers and gusty winds from Saturday to next Tuesday, the Thai Meteorological Department announced this morning, adding that isolated heavy rains are expected in the lower north, the northeast, the central region including Bangkok, the east, and the south.

The conditions are a result of the strengthening southwest monsoon prevailing across the country, while a low-pressure cell over Vietnam is expected to move through Thailand to the Gulf of Martaban, Myanmar. Continued …

Thailand’s Election Commission on Thursday certified the result of the May 14 election less than two weeks after the polls were held. It might be the fastest certification ever in Thailand’s electoral history.

One only has to look back to the previous election to see what the usual post-election landscape was like, with red and yellow cards handed to candidates for vote-buying or campaign violations. Continued …

Thailand’s most notorious serial killers

The suspected crimes of Sararat “Am Cyanide” Rangsiwuthaporn, now accused of murdering 14 people with poison, are unusual not just only because the suspect is a woman and pregnant, but also because Thailand is not famous for cultivating serial killers.

While true crime is a national obsession that renews itself annually, there have been few known prolific killers with double-digit body counts. And, in most cases, their reasons to kill have sprung from banal motives such as money or infidelity rather than the archetypal thrill killer feeding dark appetites. Continued …

SPCG Plc, a pioneer in solar farm development in Thailand, expects to earn more revenue from sales of rooftop solar panels for residential and commercial buildings, as well as industries, as solar power becomes more popular.

Thai shrimp farmers urged to decarbonize now to escape new EU tax net

Thailand’s shrimp farmers have been warned that a new European Union tax will take a big bite out of their billion-dollar export industry unless they start adapting now.

The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will collect tax on carbon-intensive imports from Jan. 1, 2026. CBAM taxes will initially apply to five products – aluminum, cement, iron and steel, electricity and fertilizers – but are expected to extend to shrimp and other agricultural products later. Metal producers to face new tariffs

The transitional phase of CBAM requires importers of iron and steel, aluminum, cement, fertilizers, electricity and hydrogen to report greenhouse gas emissions embedded in their imports without being subject to financial payments or adjustments, according to the EU. Continued …

MFP to shield ‘registered cannabis businesses’

The Move Forward Party (MFP) assured registered marijuana growers and cannabis business operators yesterday that they would be protected, even when the new government re-lists cannabis as a narcotic.

The main objective of the party’s plan to put cannabis back on the narcotics list under a ministerial regulation of the Ministry of Public Health is to allow all state officials, including police and the Office of Narcotics Control Board, to work fully to control the abuse of cannabis, said deputy MFP leader Sirikanya Tansakun.
