Transport Co. to adjust bus schedule and add stops on Don Mueang-Hua Hin route starting May 1

The Transport Co. (Thailand’s state transport corporation) has announced improvements to the Don Mueang-Hua Hin bus route, including a revised timetable and additional pick-up and drop-off points. These changes will take effect from May 1 as part of the corporation’s efforts to enhance passenger convenience and optimize revenue from both passenger transport and parcel services.

Transport Co. reviewed the feedback since the launch of the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route on March 8, a 216-kilometer route with a fare of 200 baht. Passengers have requested changes to the schedule and additional stops to improve the travel experience. In response, Transport Co. will revise the timetable and introduce new stops to meet the demand. Continued …

Six police officers killed as plane crashes into the sea near Cha Am

Six police officers on board a twin-engine turbo-prop aircraft were killed when it crashed into the sea off Cha Am in Phetchaburi province this morning. A rescue team found one survivor and rushed him to Hua Hin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police Lt. Gen. Archayon Kraithong, said that the de Havilland DHC 6-400 Twin Otter plane was on a trial flight, in preparation for a parachute exercise in the Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Continued …

Never mind that many Thai healing practices go back more than 2,500 years, Mike White’s “funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality” will draw more bandwagon westerners, not less. As a result, luxury hotels across the country are investing heavily in wellness tourism, an industry worth $35 billion to Thailand in 2024, with a growth rate of 8.5%, according to the Global Wellness Institute. Crowds join Anzac Day services for Australia, New Zealand forces

Crowds of Australians and New Zealanders gathered just before dawn today to observe solemn Anzac Day ceremonies, but one service was briefly interrupted by booing – with a local politician blaming a “known neo-Nazi”.

Anzac Day originally marks the ill-fated World War I landing of Australia and New Zealand Army Corps troops at Gallipoli, in what is now Turkey, in 1915. Collapsing the 60 days visa exemption only a partial answer

The Thai premier has called for a reduction in the two months’ visa exempt stamp that currently applies to over 90% of all tourist arrivals. She is concerned about the abuses that lead to foreigners defaulting on work permit regulations or indulging in nominee shareholding deals and allied iniquities.

Adith Chairrattananon, honorary secretary general for Thai travel agents, has agreed that gray businesses require preventive measures such as reducing the visa-free stay for Chinese travelers because of exploitation of loopholes in the rules. New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at  9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.

Seven killed as Dao Khanong Expressway Bridge collapses on Rama II Road

The under-construction Dao Khanong Expressway Bridge collapsed onto Rama II Road in Bangkok’s Chom Thong district at 1:48 am this morning. Initial reports confirm seven fatalities and many injuries. Authorities are searching for about 30 people believed to be trapped under the debris.

Officials said a concrete beam structure for the new bridge, which is under construction, collapsed onto the existing expressway bridge located about 200 meters from the toll booth. The new bridge is part of the Rama III – Dao Khanong Expressway project. Continued …

Thai Immigration Chief Orders Crackdown on Foreign Nationals in Mae Hong Son

The commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, Police Lt. Gen. Phanumas Bunyaluck, visited Mae Hong Son yesterday to implement stricter measures against foreign nationals causing disturbances. He ordered immediate deportation and blacklisting for those found violating Thai laws or engaging in inappropriate behavior.

European Parliament condemns Thailand’s human rights violations

The European Parliament on Thursday passed a resolution condemning Thailand for deporting Uyghurs to China. Members also urged the European Commission to leverage free trade agreement negotiations to pressure Thailand to reform its lese-majesty law, release political prisoners, and halt Uyghur deportations.

It will now adopt a joint resolution on democracy and human rights in Thailand, focusing on the lese-majesty law (Article 112) and the deportation of Uyghur refugees. Continued …

US hits Thai officials with visa sanctions over deportation of Uyghurs

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio yesterday announced sanctions against officials from Thailand, a U.S. ally, for their role in deporting at least 40 Uyghurs to China, where Washington says the members of the Muslim group will face persecution.

The U.S, is “committed to combating China’s efforts to pressure governments to forcibly return Uyghurs and other groups to China, where they are subject to torture and enforced disappearances,” the State Department said in a statement. Continued …

The Ministry of Public Health will launch a dengue vaccination trial in Nakhon Phanom province next month. If successful, the vaccine will be included in the universal healthcare scheme, says Minister Somsak Thepsutin.

Somsak said the National Communicable Disease Committee agreed to launch a study into dengue fever vaccinations in children, hoping it will help to decide whether the vaccine is worth investing in as part of universal healthcare benefits. Continued …

An American influencer who outraged Australians by snatching a baby wombat from its apparently distressed mother flew out of the country yesterday, the government said.

Thai stock exchange plunges to pandemic-era levels

After dropping 4.8% in January, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index continued its decline in February, shedding another 8.4%. The trend remained this month, with the market now around 1,170 points, not far above its low for the year.

Thailand’s $505 Million Aluminum Exports Threatened by New US Tariffs

The U.S. has increased import tariffs on aluminum by 15%, effective March 12. The Thai Ministry of Commerce is compiling information for the U.S. Trade Policy Working Group to determine negotiation strategies.

The tariff increase will have a significant impact on Thai aluminum producers, as the U.S. is Thailand’s second largest export market and accounts for about 15% of Thailand’s total aluminum exports. Songkran Set to Boost Thai Economy Amid Challenges

The Songkran festival is projected to infuse 26.5 billion baht into Thailand’s economy. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), this year’s festival is expected to draw 476,000 international tourists, alongside 4.4 million domestic travelers, bolstering both local and national economies.

From April 1216, international tourism is set to inject approximately 7.3 billion baht, marking a 7% increase compared to last year. Get migrants work permits, employers told

The government is urging employers to obtain work permits for migrant workers who are registered but who lack proper documents by March 30, warning that failure to do so will result in the workers losing their legal status and facing deportation.

Employers must submit health certificates, health insurance proof, social security documents, and a 1,000-baht fee. Prachuap Khiri Khan Town: A serious option for long-term living

There are three places in my home province of Prachuap Khiri Khan where I like to spend time. Hua Hin is at the north end of the province. It’s the largest of the three, and is a popular tourist and expat destination, with a seemingly endless amount of goods and services.

Thai court rules traffic fines unlawful since 2020

Thailand’s top court has dropped a legal bombshell, ruling that traffic fines issued by the Royal Thai Police (RTP) since July 2020 were unlawful — potentially affecting millions of motorists.

Over 100 daily deaths of children under five tied to air pollution in East Asia and the Pacific

As Thailand grapples with unhealthy levels of air pollution, leading to school closures and widespread health concerns, UNICEF’s latest analysis sheds light on the devastating impact of toxic air on children across East Asia and the Pacific. Air pollution, which peaks in many parts of the region during the dry season from now until April, is linked to over 100 deaths in children under five every day.

The analysis reveals that all children in East Asia and the Pacific – 500 million children in total – live in countries with unhealthy levels of air pollution. Household air pollution, caused by solid fuels used for cooking and heating, is linked to more than half of all air pollution-related deaths in children under five. Meanwhile, 325 million children live in countries where average annual particulate matter (PM2.5) levels exceed World Health Organization (WHO) guideline levels by more than five times. Continued …

The Myanmar’s Border Guard Force (BGF) has handed over 61 foreign victims who were deceived into working for scam call-centers and human trafficking networks in Shwe Kokko, Myawaddy, Myanmar.

Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai received them at the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge 2 in Mae Sot, Tak province, yesterday.
