25 Zika cases in Hua Hin, pregnant women urged to get tested

In response to a rise in Zika virus cases in Hua Hin, the Public Health Office of Prachuap Khiri Khan is calling on pregnant women to get tested for the virus. The latest figures indicate a total of 25 confirmed cases in the area.

The specific areas targeted for this health advisory include Hin Lek Fai, Hua Hin, Nong Kae, and Thap Tai. Continued …

Thailand braces for colder temperatures and continued southern floods

The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) warns of a chilly weather front spreading across Thailand, with temperatures expected to drop a further 1-2 degrees Celsius. Bangkok experienced cool conditions in the morning, and southern regions continue to be flooded due to heavy rainfall affecting nine provinces.

Thailand Lowers Wine And Nightlife Taxes

The Cabinet has approved measures recommended by the Ministry of Finance to promote Thailand as a tourism destination, with the goal of increasing revenue from foreign tourists to 1.5 trillion baht.

They issued measures to lower taxes on wine and community spirits, as well as to reduce the tax rate on entertainment or entertainment businesses from 10%t of revenue to 5% for a one-year term ending Dec. 31, 2024. Continued …

New year sees considerable drop in road accidents across Thailand

The new year holiday period witnessed a significant drop in road accidents, with 212 fatalities and 1,860 injuries, according to statistics from the Department of Land Transport. The figures indicate a considerable decrease from the previous year, with the death toll and injury count originating from 1,839 traffic mishaps that occurred from Dec. 29 to Jan. 2.

Among the provinces, Bangkok reported the highest number of deaths, recording 15 fatalities, while Kanchanaburi province bore the brunt of most accidents, with 69 incidents and the highest number of injured individuals, tallying up to 73. Continued …

Thai woman challenges traditional roles with refusal to iron husband’s clothes

A Thai woman has taken to an online forum to vent about her mother-in-law’s nagging over her refusal to iron her husband’s clothes. The woman, who works away from home and returns only on weekends, argues that her husband should be able to iron his clothes.

The woman revealed that she lives with her husband’s family but works and resides in a different province during the week, returning home every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. She admits that she prefers to rest at home, rather than taking up household chores such as ironing. Thousands of noise complaints from 4am bar closing

Members of the public have filed 5,785 complaints about noise since Dec. 15, when the rule allowing pubs, bars and entertainment venues in selected areas of Bangkok, Phuket, Chonburi, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui in Surat Thani province to remain open until 4am came into effect.

The Thai government has reaffirmed its commitment to launch the digital wallet scheme in May, a key policy of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. A recent survey by Ipsos (Thailand) shed light on the phenomenon of “shrinkflation” in the Thai market, where businesses subtly reduce product sizes or alter ingredients to maintain the original price.

According to the findings, 39% of Thai consumers have noticed a reduction in product sizes, while prices remain unchanged. The government’s “100 billion baht cattle” campaign will earn farmers 250,000 baht per household in four years, or 125 billion baht countrywide, effectively eradicating poverty amongst Thai farmers, Deputy Prime Minister Somsak Thepsutin said on Wednesday.

Thailand and China plan to resume bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations this year despite Thailand’s mounting trade deficit with China of nearly US$30 billion. The two countries have held several rounds of talks since 2019, but have yet to reach an agreement.

Malaysia has surpassed China to become the biggest feeder market for Thailand tourism in 2023 with 4.56 million arrivals.

Thailand’s tourism authority faces challenge to boost foreign arrivals

Chiang Mai Foreign Tourist Arrivals at 58% Compared to Pre-Pandemic Levels

Yesterday, Worapong Muchaotai, an official from the Chiang Mai Office of Social Enterprise Promotion publicly revealed 2023 statistics of foreign tourists traveling to Chiang Mai airport, with a total of 3.9 million individuals.
