Hua Hin Jazz Festival to return to the beach November 28-29

The Hua Hin Jazz Festival is set to return to the beach in front of the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin on Nov. 28 and 29, organizers have confirmed. The announcement marks a return to what many consider the festival’s original and most iconic location, with jazz performances once again taking place on the sands of Hua Hin beach.

First held in 2001, the Hua Hin Jazz Festival has become one of the city’s most well-known music and social events. However, in recent years, changes in format and venue have seen the festival take on different forms. Continued …

First phase of ‘Moon Curve Roundabout’ project completed

Hua Hin City municipality has confirmed the completion of the first phase of construction on the “Moon Curve Roundabout”, a project designed to ease long-standing traffic congestion at one of the town’s busiest junctions.

On Tuesday, Jirawat Phrammanee, municipal clerk and chairman of the Project Acceptance Committee, led an inspection of the site alongside committee members and supervising engineers. The visit focused on reviewing progress at the roundabout, located at the Klong Prachan curve on Chomsin Road. Continued …

Resurfacing work on Nong Kae–Takiab Road from June 23–29

Hua Hin City municipality has advised motorists to avoid Nong Kae–Takiab Road between June 23-29 while resurfacing work is carried out. Officials said the resurfacing will involve laying asphalt concrete along a designated section of the road.

The work will be conducted by a private contractor, with resurfacing taking place on one side of the road per day, alternating between the left and right lanes. The municipality said the work is scheduled to progress at a rate of around 100 meters per day. Continued …

Road resurfacing project at 19 Rai now complete

The resurfacing of the road running through Suan Luang Queen’s Park 19 Rai in Hua Hin has been completed, following a final inspection carried out on Tuesday.

The project involved improvements to the asphalt concrete overlay on the road adjacent to Wang Nuea. As part of the upgrades, the contractor also added marked parking spaces for people with disabilities and installed distance markers for runners every 100 meters along the route. Continued …

Hua Hin to host snooker tournament July 7-12

Hua Hin is set to welcome some of the country’s top snooker players next month as the city hosts the “TKC Hua Hin Cup 2025”, a professional-ranking snooker tournament. The event, officially the sixth in the 2025 Division 1 professional-ranking snooker series, will be held from July 7-12 at the Hua Hin Grand Hotel & Plaza.

More than 300 players, including professional and international competitors, have registered to take part. Only the top 16 will qualify for the final stages of the tournament, which will be broadcast live nationwide via the Tsport 7 channels on Facebook and YouTube. Continued …

Centara World Masters Golf Championship attracted 500 golfers from 29 countries

The 10th Centara World Masters Golf Championship concluded last Sayurday, having attracted 500 amateur golfers from 29 countries. Golfasian and Go Golfing hosted the event, which was supported by Centara Hotels & Resorts and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Bhumjaithai party announces withdrawal from government coalition

The Bhumjaithai Party has announced its withdrawal from the government coalition, calling on Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to take responsibility for the audio clip involving a conversation with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has sounded an urgent warning for 52 provinces, as a southwesterly monsoon barrels its way across the Andaman Sea, sweeping into Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. Forecasters are predicting wild thunderstorms, with churning seas set to whip up waves topping 2 meters.

Swedish Embassy in Bangkok to stop issuing seven types of certificates

From Sept. 1, 2025, the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok will no longer issue several certificates that many Swedes in Thailand have previously relied on for administrative purposes.

The embassy announced the discontinuation of seven specific types of certificates, including: Certificate of family relationship for visa applications for spouse or children; certificate for registration in Thailand (yellow house book); certificate of name or surname change in Sweden; certificate of divorce from Sweden; certificate of Swedish marriage for notification to Thai authorities; certificate of cohabitation (samboförhållande); and certificate of death. Continued …

14-Year-Old Boy Dies After Family Starves for Weeks, Surviving Only on Tap Water

A 14-year-old boy was found dead in his home in Pak Kret in Nonthaburi province, having reportedly succumbed to prolonged starvation. His parents, found severely emaciated and barely conscious, were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

Thai business confidence slumps to 7-month low

The Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) fell to 88.1 points in May, the lowest level in seven months, as business confidence remains low, partly attributed to the impact of new geopolitical conflicts on the economy, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

The indicator decreased for a third consecutive month after tallying 89.9 points in April. “This shows that entrepreneurs’ confidence in the economy has not improved,” said Nava Chantanasurakon, vice chairman of the FTI. Continued … 

Wage hike to pose a test for restaurateurs

Raising the daily minimum wage to 400 baht will add pressure to struggling Thai restaurateurs, says the Thai Restaurant Assn. On Tuesday, the national wage committee agreed to increase the daily minimum wage to 400 baht for all workers in Bangkok from July 1.

The 400-baht minimum daily rate also applies to workers in most hotels and entertainment venues nationwide. In general, restaurant operators already pay more than the minimum wage to attract workers, especially Thais, according to the association. Give same basic wage for all, government told

The People’s Party (PP) and the Thai Labor Solidarity Confederation have called on Labor Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn to reconsider the latest minimum wage rise, arguing all workers across Thailand should receive the uniform rate of 400 baht per day.

Effective from July 1, the new rate will apply to businesses in Bangkok, hotels rated two stars and above with at least 50 rooms, and entertainment venues such as karaoke bars, pubs, and cocktail lounges across the country. Continued …

Thailand’s exports in May grow 18.4%

Thailand’s exports in May rose by 18.4%, marking the highest growth in 38 months, with a value of 31 billion U.S. dollars, or 1.025 trillion baht, Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan said yesterday.

Pichai stated that the export growth rate was the highest in 38 months since March 2022, and the May export value was the highest monthly export value for Thailand in recent history. Continued …

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

    For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at  9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.

The Royal Irrigation Department has inspected 11 dams in Chiang Mai province following a 4.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred yesterday in Phrao District. The department confirmed that all dams remain strong, stable, and 100% safe.

Thailand recorded 65,880 Covid-19 cases and three deaths in the last week of May but the outbreak was waning from its yearly peak, according to the public health minister. Minister Somsak Thepsuthin said yesterday the new cases and fatalities were recorded from May 25 to 31.

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at  9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.

Lifting of afternoon alcohol sales ban being considered

The Thai government is considering lifting the afternoon prohibition on alcohol sales in a bid to boost its tourism industry. Public Health Minister Cholnan Srikaew is planning to ask the government’s alcohol control committee to discuss the appeal by the Thai Alcohol Beverage Business Assn. (TABBA) to revoke the rule that restricts alcohol sales between 2pm and 5pm.

3,500 runners join Hua Hin Marathon Sunday

Over 3,500 runners participated in this year’s 3rd Hua Hin Marathon yesterday. The event was organized by Preserve Hua Hin, and began at Wat Khao Krailart in Khao Takiab.

The 42-kilometer route ran through Hua Hin almost to the airport, before ending at Wat Khao Krailart.

Yoshiyuki Ono of Japan won the event with a time of 02:47:54, Thai athlete อนุชิต บุญยกิจ finished second, while Hua Hin’s Lewis Chalk finished third.

A special part of the run was held by Hua Hin-based runners made up of Thais and expats who guided visually impaired students from Phetchaburi’s Thanmik Wittaya school. A related fund-raising campaign raised over 30,000 THB for Thanmik Wittaya school (see photo above).

Centara World Masters Golf underway this week

Eighteen countries are represented in the more than 400 golfers entered in this week’s Centara World Masters Golf Championship.

Australian golfers make up the majority of the field, but there are also participants from Norfolk Island, Pakistan, New Caledonia, Qatar, Japan, Malaysia, Portugal, New Zealand, India, the UK, UAE, USA, Thailand, Germany, Papua New Guinea, and South Africa.

Thailand’s air pollution problem could worsen this year

Thailand’s polluted air has been a staggering issue for years now, especially in the north, where the air quality is reported to be detrimental to people’s health. But, as the rainy season is approaching, deluding our view that the air pollution has subsided, the opposite is true.

This year, Thailand is seeing worse haze than the previous. Afarce, a charade, a travesty of justice, ludicrous, shambolic, and absurd – these are some of the words described the reactions of some Thais and foreigners upon learning that the Election Commission on Friday has considered to take up the case on whether Move Forward Party PM candidate Pita Limjaroenrat has violated Article 151 of the election laws by holding ITV media shares.

Article 151 criminalized anyone who applied to run for MP knowingly that he or she lacks the qualifications – and holding media shares disqualifies you. Pita could face between one to 10 years in prison, slapped with a fine between 20,000 to 200,000 baht, and banned from voting for 20 years. Continued …

Three Pit Bulls abandoned, starved, and turned cannibal in Nonthaburi

Four malnourished Pit Bulls were abandoned by their owner in a house in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi. One of the dogs was killed by the other dogs eating it before concerned neighbors contacted local authorities for assistance.

Residents of a village in Bang Bua Thong were shocked to discover this alarming case after a TikTok user posted about the pit bulls. The abandoned dogs were left to starve in a house after the owner moved away without them. 25 million international tourists expected in next 7 months

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) disclosed that Thailand’s tourism revenue for the first five months of 2023 reached 959 billion baht, with international visitors accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total. The agency expects its tourism revenue to reach 2.38 trillion baht by the end of 2023, around 80% of the 3 trillion baht recorded in 2019.

TAT Gov. Yuthasak Supasorn stated Thai tourists accounted for 360 billion baht from nearly 100 million domestic trips, while international tourists generated an income of 599 million baht from 10.56 million trips. He said that the country welcomed 1.97 million overseas tourists last month, the majority of whom came from Malaysia, followed by China, India, South Korea, and Laos. Continued …

Suvarnabhumi satellite terminal set for soft takeoff in September

Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok is set to soft launch its Satellite Airport Terminal 1 (SAT-1) in September, with a full opening planned for early next year. Airports of Thailand (AoT) President Kerati Kijmanawat stated the new 216,000-square-meter facility, with a capacity for 28 aircraft parking bays, aims to address existing issues at the airport.

With the ability to accommodate 15 million passengers per year, SAT-1 will increase Suvarnabhumi’s annual passenger handling capacity to 60 million. The AoT board is expected to be informed of the soft opening plans later this month. Continued …

Power bills could start dropping in May

Power bills for both residential and business users could drop after this year’s second fuel tariff (Ft) adjustment in May, Energy Ministry Permanent-secretary Kulit Sombatsiri said on Monday.

Kulit was speaking after a meeting of the National Energy Policy Council (NEPC), which forecast electricity usage will reach a peak in April and start to drop in May.

It also predicted a drop in the price of imported liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the same period, enabling the country to reduce diesel used for electricity generation and substitute it with cheaper LPG. Continued …

Hundreds of macaque monkeys disappear from temple in Loei

An investigation is under way in Wang Saphung district of Thailand’s north-eastern province of Loei, in an effort to explain the mysterious disappearance of hundreds of macaque monkeys from a forest temple.

Pracha Saenklang, the Wang Saphung district chief officer, ordered an investigation in response to complaints by some visitors to Tham Pha Mak Ho Temple, in Ban Thai Charoen village of Si Songkhram subdistrict, that there used to be about 3,000 macaques in the compound and now there are only about 200.

A villager said that last December some men claiming to be forest officials arrived at the temple, armed with tranquilizer guns, to capture some of the monkeys for relocation elsewhere. They said that there were too many monkeys at the temple and that they have been causing damage to crops and property in the neighborhood. Continued …

Phuket fishing crew rescued after almost one month at sea

A Phuket fishing crew survived for nearly one month at sea after their boat, the Soi Sakul Petch, suffered engine failure a week after it departed from the island in southern Thailand on Jan. 19.

The Royal Thai Navy (RTN) launched a huge search operation after losing contact with the boat, combining marine and air searches, and reached out to authorities in Malaysia and Indonesia in case the boat had entered their territorial waters. Continued …

Foreign film productions rake in billions

A total of 348 foreign film productions used locations in Thailand last year, generating revenue of 6.4 billion baht for the country, according to the Thailand Film Office and Department of Tourism.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said that there were 34 foreign film shoots conducted in January this year, which helped create an income of 298 million baht for Thailand for Thailand for that month.

He went on to say that, over the past seven years, 45 films shot here have taken advantage of a cash rebate measure that was introduced by the Thai government, which has brought almost 9 billion baht to Thailand. Continued …

9.7 million tourists, including 150k foreigners, visited Prachuap Khiri Khan in 2022

In 2022, Prachuap Khiri Khan saw a significant increase in tourist numbers, making it a popular destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Data released by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), comparing the number of domestic and international tourists visiting the province between January and December of 2021 and 2022, shows an almost five-fold increase in the number of tourists visiting the province.

In 2022, a total of 9,747,884 tourists visited Prachuap Khiri Khan, the TAT said. Of that totl, 9,597,432 were domestic tourists, with 150,452 tourists from overseas. Continued …

1,900 Chinese Flights Set to Land in Thailand – this week!

Thailand is expecting a large influx of Chinese tourists with the arrival of 1,910 flights from China and an additional 6,318 flight requests for the period from Feb. 13-19, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).

Suttipong Kongpool, president of the CAAT, told the public that travel in Thailand both domestically and internationally would be bustling from Feb. 13-19, as 6,318 flight slots have already been requested, bringing the total number of flights for February 2023 to 25,256.

Suttipong continued that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most people were unable to travel, but after the Thai government relaxed travel restrictions, travel has increased since the end of last year. Continued …

Thailand is the most-searched destination among Chinese travelers using Airbnb, according to data collected by the accommodation-sharing platform.

Within the country, Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Pattaya top the list of searches by Chinese outbound travelers.

Lost French tourists rescued safely from Phuket’s Nai Thon hills

On Sunday night, two French tourists were lost on the hills above Nai Thon beach in Tambon Sakhu of Thalang district, on the northwest coast of the island, near the airport. They called for help around 10pm and reported that they were lost in a forested area.

A search team was formed consisting of local officials, police, rangers and villagers, who began their search right away. After a two-hour walk and nearly three kilometers, the searchers found the French tourists, a man named Victor and his girlfriend, waiting in the dark on the mountain. A group of foreigners are allegedly using other foreigners stolen credit cards to buy high-priced products in Phuket.

The Patong Police said a group of foreigners are using other foreigners stolen credit cards to buy high-priced products such as gold jewelry worth about 1,200,000 baht and new iPhones.

The scam involves the suspects showing fake passports to vendors, which match the credit card info. The suspects always wear hats and a mask, stating the mask is for Covid protection if asked, hiding their face. Continued …

Patong restaurant owner, Canadian man in fight and bill dispute

A Canadian man who was allegedly attacked by a group of five men in Patong refused to pay for his food and drinks at a restaurant before the incident, according to the restaurant owner, who tells a very different story than the tourist.

The Patong Police said yesterday that a restaurant owner near Patong Beach, identified publicly only as Mrs. Tuenjai, and three of her staff members met with police to give their version of events.

Tuenjai told police that the Canadian man refused to pay his bill, was heavily intoxicated, and shoved her staff. He also allegedly challenged staffers to fight him, which is when the attack that the Canadian man claimed was unprovoked began. Continued …

An elephant camp in Koh Chang, eastern Thailand, is warning tourists not to feed elephants food containing chemicals after an elephant died after eating chemically contaminated bananas.

Hua Hin-Pattaya bus service twice a day

Hua Hin now has twice-daily bus service to Pattaya, starting Feb. 19. The bus leaves Hua Hin at 9am and 3pm, and departs from Pattaya at 8am and 4pm. Tickets are 473 THB.

Tickets can be bought in person at the Hua Hin bus station or online. Buses depart from the Hua Hin bus station and in front of Government Savings Bank, Cha Am.
