Hua Hin marks Loy Krathong

Hua Hin celebrated Loy Krathong last night, with residents gathering at several locations across the city to take part in one of Thailand’s most recognizable annual cultural traditions. This year’s Loy Krathong celebrations in Hua Hin were scaled back following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, but the events continued in a respectful and reflective manner.

At Khao Tao Reservoir, families and groups of friends released krathongs made from natural materials such as banana leaves and bread into the water as part of the long-standing tradition of paying respect to the Goddess of Water and symbolically letting go of misfortune. Similar scenes took place near the Hua Hin fishing pier, as well as at Queen’s Park (Suan Luang Rajini 19 Rai), Khao Noi, Hua Don, Nong Kae and Saphan Khee Lek. Continued …

Everyone’s buzzing about the blood test that detects 50 types of cancer

“No cancer signal detected.” The blood test results popped up in my online health portal without much fanfare. A doctor would chat about them with me later, congratulating me on the “phew”-worthy result.

I took the Galleri multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test about a year ago in 2024 as part of my longevity-focused stay at Canyon Ranch, a luxury wellness retreat in Tucson, Arizona. Bribery probe deepens police credibility crisis

The reputation of the Royal Thai Police (RTP) has suffered a significant blow following a decision by the Police Complaints Review Committee (PCRC) to formally accuse former National Police Chief Torsak Sukvimol and more than 200 police officers of disciplinary misconduct for allegedly accepting bribes from online gambling networks.

Bangkok collected 391,027 krathongs during Loy Krathong, a 24% drop from last year, with most made from natural materials and properly disposed of.

Aekvarunyoo Amrapala, spokesperson for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), reported that all 50 district offices collected krathongs from 110 sites across the city during the Loy Krathong Festival. The cleanup began at 8 pm yesterday and was completed by 5 am today. Continued …

Thailand to Tax All Online Shopping Imports Starting 2026

In a significant policy shift, Thailand’s Customs Department announced today that starting Jan. 1, 2026, all foreign goods sold online will face an import duty if valued at more than 1 baht. This move will end the current exemption for items priced below 1,500 baht, which will expire at the end of this year.

The introduction of this duty, alongside the existing value-added tax (VAT), is predicted to generate at least 3 billion Thai baht annually for the government. The policy change arises from the observation that foreign goods imported through various platforms and priced below 1,500 baht total over 30 billion baht per year. Thai exports on course for double-digit growth this year

The improving global economy is expected to boost Thai exports by 9.5%-10% this year, higher than previously estimated, but Thailand will not gain significantly from the growth, says the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB). The panel previously projected export growth of 2%-3% for 2025.

Inflation eases for seventh month straight

The headline consumer price index (CPI) decreased by 0.76% year-on-year to 100 in October, marking the seventh straight month of decline, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Nantapong Chiralerspong, director-general of the Ministry of Commerce’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO), attributed the reduction in the rate of inflation to government measures aimed at easing the cost of living, energy price reductions, and decreases in the prices of essential items such as pork, chicken eggs, fresh vegetables, and fresh fruit. EV and PPV boost car production in September, while pickup truck sales decline

Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) reported that in September car production grew by 14% compared to the previous month, driven largely by the increase in electric vehicles (EVs) and pickup passenger vehicles (PPVs). However, pickup truck production declined, impacted by the challenging economic conditions and stricter lending policies.

A total of 128,104 cars were produced in September 2025, reflecting a 14% increase from August and a 4.8% increase from September 2024. This growth is mainly attributed to the increased production of electric passenger vehicles (EVs), which compensate for the reduced imports of EVs into the country in 2023-2024. Thailand’snational parks have collected approximately 2.2 billion baht in entrance and accommodation fees from tourists in fiscal year 2025, announced the chief of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) yesterday.

Atthapol Charoenshunsa, DNP director-general, stated that the revenue from tourists between October 2024 and September 2025 rose by 8.39 million baht, or 0.38%, compared to the same period last year. Facebook scam thwarted in Hua Hin

Hua Hin police successfully intervened to stop a local motorcycle garage owner from losing nearly 20,000 baht in an elaborate online scam involving fake Facebook pages impersonating a famous influencer and bogus cyber police officers.

Poloce Col. Kampanat Na Wichai, superintendent of Hua Hin Police Station, said officers acted quickly after receiving a report from the victim, a local business owner. He had first been targeted by a Facebook page posing as a well-known spiritual influencer, which falsely claimed he had won a 10,000-baht prize. Police yesterday dismantled a human trafficking syndicate that lured schoolgirls into prostitution under the guise of modeling jobs. In a nationwide operation codenamed “นางฟ้าจำแลง” (Transformed Angel), authorities arrested 11 suspects and rescued nine victims.

Investigations revealed the ring used online job boards to recruit attractive secondary school students from Bangkok and its vicinity. Forest Taskforce Probes Kaeng Krachan Land Grab

A special taskforce from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) has launched an investigation into alleged forest encroachment and destruction in Kaeng Krachan National Park and adjacent state land in Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan. The probe follows reports that investors have cleared forested hillsides and excavated soil in protected zones.

The taskforce is examining claims of land ownership under Nor Sor 3 Kor documents allegedly covering 3,162 rai — 2,016 rai of state property and 1,146 rai within the national park. Investigators found new evidence of encroachment beyond these documents, totaling 914 rai, 81 rai within the park and 833 rai of state land. Bus crashes in Hua Hin, 8 students injured

Eight student cadets were injured when a Hua Hin–Pranburi route bus skidded on a rain-soaked road and crashed into a power pole while descending Khao Dang Pass yesterday. Police have charged the driver with reckless driving and damaging government property.

The accident occurred at around 6 pm. Police at Hua Hin Police Station received a report of a crash near the downhill section of Khao Dang Pass on the Hua Hin–Nong Phlab Road. Rescue teams from the Sawang Hua Hin Foundation were dispatched to the scene. Continued …

Heavy rain forecast across Thailand as low-pressure system strengthens

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) reported today that an active low-pressure cell covering the upper Gulf of Thailand is drawing moisture-laden easterly winds into the upper part of the country, while a weak high-pressure system lingers over northern areas. The confluence of easterly and southeasterly winds across the north is expected to bring increased rainfall, including isolated heavy showers in several regions.

Man Trampled to Death by Wild Elephant in Phu Wua Forest

A 55-year-old man was found dead after being attacked by a wild elephant in the Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary in Bueng Kan province. The discovery followed a three-day search after the man was reported missing by his relatives.

Authorities believe he encountered the elephant at close range while collecting forest produce and was trampled to death. Preliminary examinations indicated that the man sustained fatal injuries consistent with being attacked by a wild elephant. The House Committee on Money-Laundering & Drugs Suppression confirmed yesterday that seven listed firms on the Stock Exchange of Thailand have been reportedly suspected of being involved in money-laundering activities of the transnational rogue scammers and that representatives of those firms will be summoned to testify over the issue.

The Kasikorn Research Center says Thailand’s automotive industry must brace for US import tariff measures, intensifying competition from Chinese automakers, and seek more stringent environmental and safety standards of trading partners, all of which pose challenges to the industry’s long-term adaptation and competitiveness.

Dr. Rujipun Assarut, KResearch assistant managing director, said, “Although Thailand’s automobile exports to the US account for a small share, the US import tariff measure under Section 232 is likely to indirectly affect Thai car exports to global markets. This is because major producers such as Japan and South Korea may diversify their exports to other markets to reduce reliance on the US, thereby intensifying global competition. Thai Pharmacies Join Cost-Cutting Prescription Scheme

A new initiative by Thailand’s FDA will allow patients receiving care from private hospitals to purchase prescribed medications from 3,400 participating pharmacies. Second phase of co-payment scheme likely

KKP Securities (KKPS) has revealed that, according to discussions with the global digital infrastructure research firm DCByte, Thailand is rapidly becoming one of the key data center hubs in Southeast Asia. This shift is largely driven by the relocation of major hyperscaler providers from Singapore and Johor, Malaysia, to invest in Thailand in significantly growing numbers.

Bangkok has been labeled the least affordable city in the world for renters, according to the Housing Affordability Review 2025 by German asset manager DWS. US says Thailand agrees to lift trade barriers, make required purchases

Thailand has agreed to the removal of barriers on US food, farm, medical, digital, and film products, and to make a huge aircraft procurement and annual purchases of energy and farm products with preset minimal values, according to the United States government. Long-term purchases incude 80 US planes costing US18.8 billion.

Thai industry jittery over US tariff rules

Thailand’s manufacturing sector is struggling to deal with challenges raised by US tariff rules on Thai imports, even as the rate was cut significantly in early August.

Washington decided to impose a 19% duty on Thai products in August, replacing its draconian rate of 36%. Yet exporters risk facing higher rates on some products if the items are considered by US authorities as being shipped to Thailand and then re-exported to America, often called transshipment. Thai September exports stronger than expected

Customs-cleared exports rose 19.0% in September from a year earlier, the fastest rate of growth in 42 months, the commerce ministry said today, comfortably beating analysts’ expectations. The reading for September compared with a forecast 7.0% year-on-year increase in a Reuters poll, and followed a rise of 5.8% in August.

Thailand rolls out rice rescue plan to lift farmer incomes

Thailand’s Commerce Ministry announced new measures to support rice farmers by stabilizing paddy prices and managing the flow of 14 million tons. Wittayakorn Maneenetr, director-general of the Internal Trade Department, said the new strategy could result in an average price increase of 3% to 5% for paddy rice.
