Road work on Soi 94 still in turmoil

Hua Hin City has held an urgent meeting in a bid to speed up the delayed construction of Soi 94, a key road project that has caused months of disruption for local residents and businesses.

The meeting was called to address ongoing delays in the project, which involves resurfacing a 500-meter stretch of Soi 94 with reinforced concrete and installing an upgraded drainage system. The project, which began on July 22, 2024, was initially due for completion in February 2025 but was halted after underground utility issues and soil subsidence required a full revision of the construction plans. 27th Red Cross Fair gets underway

The 27th Red Cross Fair and Hua Hin’s Best Products officially opened Friday evening at the event space behind Bluport Hua Hin on Soi 102. Running until July 6, the fair takes place across a 25-rai area and is aimed at raising funds to support humanitarian initiatives, including disaster relief, aid for people with disabilities, and assistance for low-income individuals across Hua Hin and surrounding districts.

Big Cleaning Day held at Chat Chai Market

Municipal staff and public health officials joined forces to carry out a “Big Cleaning Day” at Chat Chai Market on Friday as part of ongoing efforts to improve hygiene and cleanliness at one of the city’s busiest markets.

The team undertook routine drainage maintenance, which is carried out every Wednesday, and market floor cleaning, normally conducted each Thursday. Foreign tourist arrivals drop 13.9% in May

Foreign investment in Thailand surges 34% as EEC draws over 47 billion baht

Oramon Sapthaweetham, director-general of the Department of Business Development , reported that foreign investment in Thailand saw a significant increase during the first five months of 2025 (January–May), with 426 foreign entities approved to operate businesses under the Foreign Business Act 1999.

Of the total, 105 foreign investors were granted business operation licenses, while 321 were issued certificates of business operation. Combined investment during this period amounted to 88.94 billion baht. Continued …

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is rolling out a rapid-response campaign to rebuild Chinese tourists’ confidence after a noticeable drop in arrivals. A new certification initiative — Thailand Safe Travel Stamp — aims to brand tourism operators as safe and trustworthy ahead of the upcoming Golden Week holiday.

Gulf hits renewable target 5 years early

Gulf Development, Thailand’s largest energy company by market value and a telecom operator, has achieved its target to increase its renewable power proportion to 40% of total electricity generation capacity following a recent investment in solar farms. The company reached the goal ahead of the target year of 2030.

“If we calculate our renewable power generation only for power plants in operation, the proportion is 10%. But if we include projects recently signed with the government, then we meet the 40% target,” said Yupapin Wangviwat, chief financial officer of Gulf. Continued …

      The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Prayad Marksaeng crowned Toyota Senior Championship winner in Hua Hin

Local golf pro Prayad Marksaeng clinched the championship title at the Toyota Senior Championship/Zenn Cup 2025, the third stop on the 2025 Thai Senior Tour. Prayad, 59, finished with a 14-under-par total of 202, earning him the winner’s cheque of 120,000 Thai baht.

Alcohol sales easing awaits ministry nod

The committee on alcohol beverage control has acknowledged that the easing of alcohol bans on Buddhist holy days has yet to be extended to ordinary retail shops, pending clarification from the Ministry of Interior.

Weekend sees more heavy rain across Thailand in seasonal deluge

Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for 57 provinces to prepare for heavy rainfall over the weekend. The northeastern and northern regions, as well as Bangkok and surrounding areas, are expected to experience significant rainfall, covering 60%-80% of these areas.

The southern region (east coast) will experience thunderstorms across 40% of the area, mainly affecting Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range between 23-25°C at the lowest and 32-35°C at the highest. Continued …

Over nearly 60 years and two generations, Chatchai Lertviwatkul’s family business in Thailand was transformed from a manufacturer of leather gloves to a producer of pet food and treats, with a third of its products shipped to the United States from a modest factory on the outskirts of Bangkok.

Thailand’s BOI Approves $870 Million in New Investment Projects

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has approved investment applications worth a total of 28.6 billion baht (US$870 million) in digital infrastructure and travel sector projects, as well as improved incentives for the use of local content in the manufacturing of electric vehicles (EV) and hybrids, as well as electrical appliances (E&E).

The largest project approved is Stratus Technology Co.’s plan to invest 23.7 billion baht to build a Tier 3 data center with an IT load of approximately 203 megawatts (MW). Thai-Cambodian border closure could lead to a 60-billion-baht decline in border exports if the situation persists until the end of the year, the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) warned yesterday.

Editor: A “promenade” is in the plans. However, legal action by the affected businesses is a possibility, delaying any demolition and possible “improvements” perhaps by years.

Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair starts today

The 27th annual Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair will take place from June 27 to July 6. Officers from Mueang Phang Nga Police Station apprehended two suspects, 29 year old Muhama Wadeng and 27 year old Sulaiman Gaza, in the southern province of Phang Nga at 3.30 am Tuesday. Phuket officials are ramping up security in one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations after a safety inspection at Patong Beach, aimed at reassuring tourists and locals. On Wednesday, a bomb scare was averted thanks to the swift action of local police, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units, and specially trained sniffer dogs.

Suspected Explosive Device Found Outside Phang Nga Governor’s Residence

Authorities in Phang Nga were placed on high alert after a suspected explosive device was discovered yesterday near the perimeter fence of the provincial governor’s residence. Initial reports indicate that the device, disguised to resemble a rock, contained an operational explosive mechanism with a possible blast radius of up to 10 meters.

Authorities have set a final deadline ofJuly 7 for the demolition of more than 30 beachside buildings in Hua Hin that have been deemed illegal due to encroachment on public coastal land.

The buildings in question include homes, guesthouses, and seafood restaurants, many of which have become familiar fixtures in the area over several decades. Ongoing road improvement works in the Takiab area

Local officials have carried out an on-site inspection of ongoing road-improvement works in the Takiab area, as part of efforts to upgrade road conditions and improve safety for motorists. Hua Hin installs high-capacity water pumps to help prevent flooding

Hua Hin has begun operating two high-capacity water pumps to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season. The pumps, provided by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (Region 4), are diesel-powered and capable of discharging 31,500 liters of water per minute. They have been installed at two key locations — at the end of the Khlong Takiab canal and near the Huana Reservoir.

Road safety shock: Pedestrian deaths on the rise

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

    Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer two round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

Businesses call for delay in minimum wage hike

The government needs to reconsider its plan to increase the daily minimum wage in Bangkok to 400 baht from July 1, as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) cannot bear additional costs in such a weak economy, which is expected to slow further in the second half of this year, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Bangkok is slated to be added to a list of provinces where the daily minimum wage is 400 baht, a campaign pledge of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. A pilot program in four areas raised the daily minimum wage to 400 baht on Jan. 1 this year. Continued …

New minimum wage could lead to hotel layoffs

Large-scale layoffs in the hotel sector could be seen during this low season if the government agrees to raise the minimum wage to 400 baht from next week as planned, while the Thai Hotels Assn.(THA) has submitted a petition to the prime minister, asking for the policy to be cancelled.

La-iad Bungsrithong, an adviser to the THA board, said that as five-star hotels in Chiang Mai had earlier been mandated with the 400-baht daily minimum wage, they had already felt an impact from the soaring wage costs, which are up 14% from last year. Continued …

Phuket Fines Over 28,000 Foreign Tourists for Traffic Offenses So Far in 2025

Phuket officials have reported that 28,809 foreign tourists have been fined for traffic violations on the island to date in 2025. Russian visitors topped the list with 3,121 cases, followed by tourists from China (1,721), the UK (1,419), France (1,365), and India (1,069).

Since Jan. 1, the police have arrested 369 foreigners for various offenses. These include 87 violations of the Immigration Act, 65 cases of drunk driving, and 27 breaches of the Alien Employment Act. 8-point policy to transform Hua Hin into a more liveable city

Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul has unveiled an eight-point policy aimed at improving quality of life for residents and guiding the city’s development over the next four years.

Plans include improving roads, replacing existing street lighting with energy-efficient LED systems, and upgrading the municipal waterworks system with new filtration and sedimentation facilities. The city also aims to expand access to water through cooperation with the Provincial Waterworks Authority. Thailand and Cambodia shut several border crossings in tit-for-tat moves, ratcheting up tensions between the two neighbors as Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra fights to save her government from a political crisis triggered by a leaked phone call over the weeks-long standoff.

The closure of the Chong Sai Taku border crossing in northeastern Buri Ram province was effective from June 21, according to an order by the Thai army late Saturday. Waste-to Energy-Power Plant Project in Surat Thani province

Sermsang Power Corp. (SSP) has partnered with BAFS Clean Energy Co. and Luckly Clean Energy Co. to establish a joint-venture company named Beisel Waste Energy Co. The company aims to invest in developing Waste to an energy power plant project in Surat Thani province with a budget of over 2,200 million baht. The project will sell 8.9 MW of generated electricity to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and is expected to start its operation within two years.

The project will use high-efficiency technology to sort municipal solid waste in Surat Thani province and feed it as fuel into a moving grate incinerator controled by a hydraulic system. The plant will be installed with a flue gas-treatment system, a continuous emission monitoring system (CEMSs) and a wastewater treatment system.

The project can process 500 tons of waste into energy in a day (or 165,000 tons per year). Currently, the company has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the PEA and expects to be able to start commercial operation (COD) by 2026. – exri.co.th

“I followed a traffic policeman on a bike all the way up Soi 88 from town to the one and only set of traffic lights. I thought I’d do a little experiment. In that 8kms, I witnessed him pass 11 people without helmets. Did he do anything, NO! All he seemed interested in was watching the farang in his mirrors 50 meters behind him that he couldn’t do anything about because I was driving legally! New rules! Total BS! Someone needs to get a grip on policeman plod!” – BP

Editor: I guess the good news was that there actually were police doing a patrol. Usually they just stay in their air-conditioned offices until they are called to do something. We have also done a similar experiment, counting 32 people on motorcycles, and only 12 with helmets. All Thais. And yesterday we saw a woman and her three children of various ages on a motorbike. Only the mother had a helmet. Can most Thais even afford helmets for their children, who will outgrow them in short order? Bottom line: Farang need to get used to the double standard. It’s not going to change. We’re guests in this country, so follow the law, even if it does not seem fair.

Hua Hin Jazz Festival to return to the beach November 28-29

The Hua Hin Jazz Festival is set to return to the beach in front of the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin on Nov. 28 and 29, organizers have confirmed. The announcement marks a return to what many consider the festival’s original and most iconic location, with jazz performances once again taking place on the sands of Hua Hin beach.

Hua Hin City municipality has confirmed the completion of the first phase of construction on the “Moon Curve Roundabout”, a project designed to ease long-standing traffic congestion at one of the town’s busiest junctions.

Hua Hin City municipality has advised motorists to avoid Nong Kae–Takiab Road between June 23-29 while resurfacing work is carried out. Officials said the resurfacing will involve laying asphalt concrete along a designated section of the road.

Hua Hin is set to welcome some of the country’s top snooker players next month as the city hosts the “TKC Hua Hin Cup 2025”, a professional-ranking snooker tournament. Thai business confidence slumps to 7-month low

The Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) fell to 88.1 points in May, the lowest level in seven months, as business confidence remains low, partly attributed to the impact of new geopolitical conflicts on the economy, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Wage hike to pose a test for restaurateurs

Raising the daily minimum wage to 400 baht will add pressure to struggling Thai restaurateurs, says the Thai Restaurant Assn. On Tuesday, the national wage committee agreed to increase the daily minimum wage to 400 baht for all workers in Bangkok from July 1.

The 400-baht minimum daily rate also applies to workers in most hotels and entertainment venues nationwide. In general, restaurant operators already pay more than the minimum wage to attract workers, especially Thais, according to the association. The People’s Party (PP) and the Thai Labor Solidarity Confederation have called on Labor Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn to reconsider the latest minimum wage rise, arguing all workers across Thailand should receive the uniform rate of 400 baht per day.
