Editor: Sorry Jim, but there are plenty of regular taxis in Hua Hin, not to mention the availability of Grab and Uber.

Kanchanaburi woman nabbed in Hua Hin for 2.7M-baht fake charity scam

A self-styled charity organizer has landed in hot water after allegedly conning top-tier donors out of 2.7 million baht, all under the pretense of raising money for underprivileged children and monks. Instead of helping the needy, she reportedly helped herself.

Cambodia opens fire at Thai military base

Cambodian soldiers opened fire at a Thai military base in the northeastern province of Surin and launched rockets toward Si Sa Ket this morning, as hostilities in the disputed border area worsened, according to the Royal Thai Army.

Thai soldiers heard a Cambodian unmanned aerial vehicle circling in front of the Ta Muen Thom temple ruins in Phanom Dong Rak district of Surin at 7.35am, the army said. Landmines on Cambodian border sparks warning

A second landmine explosion in less than a week has rocked the Thai-Cambodian border, seriously injuring one Thai soldier and wounding four others. The incident occurred late Tuesday afternoon in the Chong An Ma area of Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani province. One soldier reportedly lost a leg due to the blast.

Thai economy at risk of sharp slowdown to 0.4% in 2026 if US tariff deal collapses

Thailand’s economy is expected to grow by 1.5% in 2025, in line with earlier projections, according to the latest report from the Economic Intelligence Center (EIC) of Siam Commercial Bank (SCB).

Heavy rain and strong winds expected across Thailand

Thailand Rejects 0% Tax Deal with US, Cites Risk to Local Farmers

Thailand has rejected a 0% tax agreement with the U.S., citing significant potential impacts on its agriculture sector. The government is instead launching a 200-billion-baht (£4.5 billion) soft loan scheme to support private sectors and farmers.

Deputy Finance Minister Julaphan Amornwiwat affirmed the country’s firm stance, stating the 0% tax proposal is untenable due to international obligations and the vulnerable nature of the domestic agriculture sector. Thailand says nearing deal with US to lower 36% import tariff

Thailand is close to an agreement with the United States to lower a threatened 36% tariff on its exports ahead of the Aug. 1 deadline, according to Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, who expects trade talks to conclude within days.

The Southeast Asian nation will submit additional clarifications and final details of its proposal to U.S. trade officials in the coming days, Pichai said yesterday. A deal is expected to be announced before the new tariff rate takes effect, as Thailand has already provided the Washington with “almost everything” requested. Continued …

Will Indonesia regret its trade deal with Trump?

Be careful what you wish for, lest it come true. That ancient proverb comes to mind when considering the eagerness of America’s trade partners around the world to negotiate deals with U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration. Four countries already have, with Indonesia the latest to do so – and possibly the first to regret it.

The United States has announced a complex, tiered tariff regime, including a 25% tariff on labor-intensive goods such as textiles and footwear, a 40% tariff on goods suspected of being “transshipped” or having content of Chinese origin, and a 50% tariff on so-called “strategic sectors”, including aluminium, copper, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals. No more changes to minimum wage this year, says minister

The Ministry of Labor has confirmed there will be no further increases to the minimum wage this year, saying the next shift will take place in 2026. Minister Pongkawin Jungrungruangkit said yesterday that two wage adjustments have already taken place this year.

The minimum wage is usually only adjusted once a year, he said after a meeting of the national wage committee, which includes representatives of government, business and labor. Continued …

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, has unveiled its 2026 strategy under the theme “Value is the New Volume”— ushering in “The New Thailand” and signaling a shift to redefine Thai tourism through quality, balance, and sustainability.

Sorawong Thienthong, minister of Tourism and Sports, said that despite global tourism facing several challenges in 2024, Thailand remains a leading destination, having welcomed more than 18.08 million international visitors and generated 1.4 trillion baht in revenue so far this year. Russian arrivals to top last year’s figure

TasteAtlas, a global platform dedicated to cataloging local cuisines, has ranked Sai Krok Isan and Sai Ua among the top 50 most delicious sausages worldwide. Hua Hin sees tourism boost during long weekend with hotel occupancy at 80%

Hotels in Hua Hin and other parts of Prachuap Khiri Khan reported strong occupancy levels during the recent four-day weekend, with average rates reaching 80%, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Easy Airline is set to expand its aviation operations with a new regional service connecting Hua Hin to key southern destinations: Surat Thani, Phuket and Hat Yai. For example, U.S. imports from China by sea fell 28.5% in May compared to the previous year — the sharpest drop since the Covid-19 pandemic — after the U.S. imposed tariffs as high as 145%. Arsenic contamination in Chiang Mai children linked to river fish

Thai woman dies in attack by wild elephant in Surat Thani forest

A Thai woman lost her life in an attack by a wild elephant while traveling on a motorcycle with her son through a forest in the southern province of Surat Thani. Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair continues to Sunday

The 27th annual Red Cross and Hua Hin District Fair will finish its run on Sunday. The fair, organized by Hua Hin District in partnership with the Hua Hin District Branch of the Thai Red Cross Society, is being held at the activity area behind Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall on Hua Hin Soi 102.

Hua Hin to host snooker tournament starting Monday

Hua Hin is set to welcome some of the country’s top snooker players beginning Monday as the city hosts the “TKC Hua Hin Cup 2025”, a professional-ranking snooker tournament. Sea around Phayam Island now a protected zone

The sea around Phayam Island, in the Andaman Sea off the southern province of Ranong, covering a total of 240 hectares, has been declared a protected zone, in which all kinds of water sports and fishing activities, garbage dumping, and discharge of waste water are banned.

According to Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Chalermchai Srion, the declaration of the protected zone, which came into effect on July 1, is an important step in the protection of coastal species in the sea around the island, including corals, sea fans, sea grass, and other exotic marine species.     The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Thailand’s trade deficit with China has widened significantly, reaching 768 billion baht in the first five months of 2025 (January–May) — a sharp increase of over 200 billion baht from the same period last year, according to a report from the Ministry of Commerce.

Waste-to Energy-Power Plant Project in Surat Thani province

Sermsang Power Corp. (SSP) has partnered with BAFS Clean Energy Co. and Luckly Clean Energy Co. to establish a joint-venture company named Beisel Waste Energy Co. The company aims to invest in developing Waste to an energy power plant project in Surat Thani province with a budget of over 2,200 million baht. The project will sell 8.9 MW of generated electricity to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and is expected to start its operation within two years.

The project will use high-efficiency technology to sort municipal solid waste in Surat Thani province and feed it as fuel into a moving grate incinerator controled by a hydraulic system. The plant will be installed with a flue gas-treatment system, a continuous emission monitoring system (CEMSs) and a wastewater treatment system.

The project can process 500 tons of waste into energy in a day (or 165,000 tons per year). Currently, the company has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the PEA and expects to be able to start commercial operation (COD) by 2026. – exri.co.th

      The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.
