The Department of Meteorology warns 42 provinces to prepare for heavy to very heavy rain, as the influence of Typhoon Toksuri moves past Myanmar and encounters the southwest monsoon covering parts of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

The Cabinet Secretariat will propose to the Cabinet meeting today that Monday, July 31, be declared a special holiday, leading to a six-day break from July 28 to Aug. 2, in order to stimulate the tourism and service sectors.

Dengue fever cases surge across 18 provinces in Thailand
Dengue fever cases are on the rise in Thailand, with the Department of Disease Control reporting an increase in 18 provinces, including Chon Buri, Phuket, and Bangkok.
A high-level digital meeting was conducted yesterday, overseen by Taret Krassanairawiwong, the director-general of the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health. Elephants Join the Celebration of Long-Awaited Road
Residents of Surin province celebrated the completion of a newly built road connecting four subdistricts in Mueang Surin district with an elephant procession. The concrete road, 6 meters wide and 1.2 kilometers long, was built with a budget of over 4 million baht.
Previously, the community had to endure difficult travel conditions on the unpaved and pothole-strewn road, which was often compared to a lunar landscape that has existed for generations. Covid-19 cases continue lower
The number of Covid-19 cases continues to drop, with the fatalities either elderly, people with a chronic disease or unvaccinated, public health Permanent Secretary Opas Karnkawinpong said on Monday.
Speaking after chairing a meeting of the committee monitoring the Covid-19 situation, Dr. Opas said that last week 556 people were admitted to hospitals for treatment of Covid-19, an average of 79 per day, and 178 had a severe infection. Continued …

Rejection of Pita’s renomination as PM ‘unconstitutional’: Ombudsman
An ombudsman ruled yesterday that parliament’s rejection of Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s renomination as a prime ministerial candidate was unconstitutional and agreed to forward the case to the Constitutional Court.
The ombudsman also agreed to ask the court to order parliament to suspend the prime ministerial selection process until it rules on Pita’s renomination, to prevent irreparable damage that may result if the selection process is allowed to proceed. Continued …

House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said yesterday that his legal team will have to listen to the opinions of the House and Senate whips about whether the joint sitting of parliament, to select the prime minister, scheduled for this Thursday, will be postponed.
