Section of Soi 94 closed to Saturday for repair work

Road resurfacing work has resumed on Soi 94 after months of delays, with a section of the road temporarily closed to traffic until July 12, Hua Hin City has announced.

The closure affects the stretch between the junction in front of the 7-Eleven and the junction at Soi Charoen Pattana 2, near Craft, Scruffy’s, and Pizza Garden. The road will be closed daily from 9am to 4pm through to Friday to allow for the installation of drainage pipes, which form part of the ongoing reinforced concrete resurfacing project. Continued …

Thailand Tightens Grip on Ride-Hailing with Tough New Rules

Thailand’s Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) has introduced stringent regulations for ride-hailing services. All drivers must now register their vehicles as public transport and have a public transport driving license. These new measures are set to take effect 90 days after the announcement yesterday.

Easy Airline to Launch Flights Linking Hua Hin, Surat Thani, Phuket & Hat Yai

Easy Airline is set to expand its aviation operations with a new regional service connecting Hua Hin to key southern destinations: Surat Thani, Phuket and Hat Yai. These “reciprocal tariffs” have severely disrupted bilateral trade. For example, U.S. imports from China by sea fell 28.5% in May compared to the previous year — the sharpest drop since the Covid-19 pandemic — after the U.S. imposed tariffs as high as 145%. U.S. container imports dropped 7.2% in May to 2.18 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), with major West Coast ports like Long Beach and Los Angeles were hit hardest, seeing Chinese imports fall by over 30%. Tour bus accident in Phetchaburi injures 9

Yesterday at approximately 8 p.m., a tour bus lost control and skidded off the road near a sharp curve on Phetkasem Road (southbound) at kilometer 151-560, in the Huasaphan area, Phetchaburi Province. Arsenic contamination in Chiang Mai children linked to river fish

Thai woman dies in attack by wild elephant in Surat Thani forest

A Thai woman lost her life in an attack by a wild elephant while traveling on a motorcycle with her son through a forest in the southern province of Surat Thani. Thailand halts ‘Half-Half Thai Travel’ registration

Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong yesterday addressed the issues regarding the registration for the “Tiew Thai Khon La Krueng” (Half-Half Thai Travel) scheme. TAT says its seven projects will boost economy by 200.50-billion baht

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that seven projects, valued at 3.96-billion baht, are expected to generate an economic impact of 200.50-billion baht. Out of the 22 projects proposed to the Cabinet, worth 9.02 billion baht, seven were approved under the economic stimulus plan on June 24.

‘Moderately Serious’ Arsenic Levels Found in Kok River

Four out of five samples of water taken from Kok River in Thailand, which is a tributary of Mekong River, showed arsenic levels higher than the standard limit of 0.01 milligram per liter, according to a recent water-quality assessment by the Mekong River Commission (MRC), classifying it as “moderately serious”.

Thai PM suspended

Thailand’s Constitutional Court has suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from her duties pending a ruling on whether she breached ethical standards in violation of the constitution, following a controversial phone call with Cambodia’s former leader, Hun Sen.

The petition, filed by 36 senators, accuses the 38-year-old premier of dishonesty over the leaked call, which appeared to show her currying favor with Hun Sen while disparaging a Thai military commander. Continued …

Suriya to become acting PM

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit will become the acting prime minister and will lead the new Cabinet at the oath-taking ceremony before His Majesty the King tomorrow.

An informed government source pointed out that Phumtham Wechayachai should have been the first in line to stand in for Paetongtarn as the acting prime minister during her suspension, had it not been for a legal technicality in the new Cabinet line-up rules, which means that Phumtham’s posts as deputy prime minister and defense minister have ended and he is yet to be formally reinstated as deputy prime minister and interior minister. Revision of alcohol sales ban from 2-5 pm under review

The Ministry of Public Health expects scrutiny of a new bill containing a series of amendments to the Alcohol Control Act 2008 to be completed later this month, says Minister Somsak Thepsutin. The legislation will get rid of outdated military-era sales restrictions and ease curbs on advertising, but will also introduce some stricter regulations.

The law will also formally repeal National Peace Keeping Council Order No 253, dating back to 1972, which sets the legal hours for alcohol sales, currently 11am to 2pm and 5pm to midnight. Continued …

Spanish Tourists Rescued After Longtail Boat Capsizes Off Koh Samui

A longtail passenger boat carrying four Spanish tourists capsized late yesterday mornin, between Koh Samui and Koh Taen due to strong winds and rough waves, authorities have confirmed.

Prayad Marksaeng crowned Toyota Senior Championship winner in Hua Hin

Local golf pro Prayad Marksaeng clinched the championship title at the Toyota Senior Championship/Zenn Cup 2025, the third stop on the 2025 Thai Senior Tour. Prayad, 59, finished with a 14-under-par total of 202, earning him the winner’s cheque of 120,000 Thai baht.

Alcohol sales easing awaits ministry nod

The committee on alcohol beverage control has acknowledged that the easing of alcohol bans on Buddhist holy days has yet to be extended to ordinary retail shops, pending clarification from the Ministry of Interior.

Dr. Nipon Chinanonwait, director of the Office of Alcohol Control Committee under the Ministry of Public Health, said the committee has yet to receive a response from the Interior Ministry regarding the definition of “place of business”, particularly regarding ordinary shops. Continued …

Weekend sees more heavy rain across Thailand in seasonal deluge

Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for 57 provinces to prepare for heavy rainfall over the weekend. The northeastern and northern regions, as well as Bangkok and surrounding areas, are expected to experience significant rainfall, covering 60%-80% of these areas.

The southern region (east coast) will experience thunderstorms across 40% of the area, mainly affecting Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures will range between 23-25°C at the lowest and 32-35°C at the highest. Continued …

Thailand’s BOI Approves $870 Million in New Investment Projects

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has approved investment applications worth a total of 28.6 billion baht (US$870 million) in digital infrastructure and travel sector projects, as well as improved incentives for the use of local content in the manufacturing of electric vehicles (EV) and hybrids, as well as electrical appliances (E&E).

The largest project approved is Stratus Technology Co.’s plan to invest 23.7 billion baht to build a Tier 3 data center with an IT load of approximately 203 megawatts (MW). Thai-Cambodian border closure could lead to a 60-billion-baht decline in border exports if the situation persists until the end of the year, the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) warned yesterday.

Editor: A “promenade” is in the plans. However, legal action by the affected businesses is a possibility, delaying any demolition and possible “improvements” perhaps by years.

Phuket Fines Over 28,000 Foreign Tourists for Traffic Offenses So Far in 2025

Phuket officials have reported that 28,809 foreign tourists have been fined for traffic violations on the island to date in 2025. Russian visitors topped the list with 3,121 cases, followed by tourists from China (1,721), the UK (1,419), France (1,365), and India (1,069).

8-point policy to transform Hua Hin into a more liveable city

Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul has unveiled an eight-point policy aimed at improving quality of life for residents and guiding the city’s development over the next four years.

Plans include improving roads, replacing existing street lighting with energy-efficient LED systems, and upgrading the municipal waterworks system with new filtration and sedimentation facilities. The city also aims to expand access to water through cooperation with the Provincial Waterworks Authority. Hua Hin City municipality has issued a warning against the obstruction of public footpaths,   the public that such actions violate Thailand’s cleanliness and orderliness laws and may result in fines or criminal prosecution.

Thailand and Cambodia shut several border crossings in tit-for-tat moves, ratcheting up tensions between the two neighbors as Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra fights to save her government from a political crisis triggered by a leaked phone call over the weeks-long standoff.

The closure of the Chong Sai Taku border crossing in northeastern Buri Ram province was effective from June 21, according to an order by the Thai army late Saturday. Waste-to Energy-Power Plant Project in Surat Thani province

Sermsang Power Corp. (SSP) has partnered with BAFS Clean Energy Co. and Luckly Clean Energy Co. to establish a joint-venture company named Beisel Waste Energy Co. The company aims to invest in developing Waste to an energy power plant project in Surat Thani province with a budget of over 2,200 million baht. The project will sell 8.9 MW of generated electricity to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and is expected to start its operation within two years.

The project will use high-efficiency technology to sort municipal solid waste in Surat Thani province and feed it as fuel into a moving grate incinerator controled by a hydraulic system. The plant will be installed with a flue gas-treatment system, a continuous emission monitoring system (CEMSs) and a wastewater treatment system.

The project can process 500 tons of waste into energy in a day (or 165,000 tons per year). Currently, the company has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the PEA and expects to be able to start commercial operation (COD) by 2026. – exri.co.th

“I followed a traffic policeman on a bike all the way up Soi 88 from town to the one and only set of traffic lights. I thought I’d do a little experiment. In that 8kms, I witnessed him pass 11 people without helmets. Did he do anything, NO! All he seemed interested in was watching the farang in his mirrors 50 meters behind him that he couldn’t do anything about because I was driving legally! New rules! Total BS! Someone needs to get a grip on policeman plod!” – BP

Editor: I guess the good news was that there actually were police doing a patrol. Usually they just stay in their air-conditioned offices until they are called to do something.       The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.
