Aircraft Wreckage Recovery Delayed Following Police Aviation Crash in Sea

Authorities have successfully retrieved the main wreckage of the aircraft from the sea and have collected scattered debris from the surrounding area. These parts are now being stored along the Hua Hin beach, near the 509th Special Operations Airwing in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The recovery and the transfer of wreckage from the police aviation havs been delayed. Experts are expected to arrive between May 3 and May 8 to assist in the removal operation. Continued …

Long-term visitors often point out that while Thailand has its challenges, it compares favorably when considering global standards.

Mobile Banking Shake-Up: Thai Users Face Security Check Deadline

Thai mobile banking users are being urged to verify their identity by tomorrow as part of a government crackdown on online fraud. Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong announced the measures, which require those flagged by banks via their mobile apps to confirm their details. Another accident as concrete chunks fall from Rama 2 expressway

Chunks of concrete fell from an overhead beam onto a pickup truck, severely injuring the driver, beneath the expressway being built above Rama 2 Road, this morning.

Lumps of concrete had smashed through the driver’s side of the windshield. The driver suffered injuries to his chin, chest and arms, rescuers said. Large chunks of concrete rested on the front seat. Continued …

Free wi-fi soon for passengers on long-haul trains

The State Railway of Thailand plans to provide a free wi-fi service on long-haul trains to the north, northeast and south, starting late this year.

SRT Gov. Veeris Ammarapala said the decision to provide a free wi-fi service followed passengers’ complaints they lost their internet connection when trains were passing through forests and mountainous terrain, meaning they could not check the news or real-time location of their train. Continued …

Severe Diarrhea Outbreak in Lampang Affects Over 3,000

Lampang province is experiencing a severe outbreak of diarrhea, with over 3,000 cases reported. The outbreak is widespread, with no apparent link to consumption of specific foods, and is believed to be triggered by the unusually hot weather making food spoil more easily.

Volunteer Officer Ambushed and Killed Near Base in Yala

A volunteer security officer in Bannang Sata district, Yala province, was ambushed and killed late on 27 AprilSunday while on a brief trip to a local shop, just 300 meters from his operational base. The attackers later set fire to both the officer’s car and his body.

The victim had driven from his base at Taling Chan subdistrict to purchase supplies at a grocery shop. As he exited his vehicle, gunmen hiding in nearby overgrowth opened fire with automatic weapons. Thailand Delays Martial Law Removal Plans in the South After Fatal Attacks

Thailand has postponed plans to lift martial law in its southern border provinces following two deadly attacks that killed two border patrol police officers and a local volunteer, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai confirmed yesterday.

“Recent violent events have forced us to review the proposal,” Phumtham said, adding that discussions scheduled for last weekend had been postponed to allow security forces to address the immediate situation. “While the private sector believes the situation has normalized and lifting martial law would improve business conditions, these incidents require a reassessment.” Continued …

Thailand’s restaurant businesses grew 28% in 2023, generating 314-billion baht in revenue, with strong expansion driven by food delivery and soft power.

Thailand awaits US nod for tariff talks date

Thailand is waiting for the United States to give a reply on when it will hold talks on trade tariffs, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said. The government is arranging an appointment with Washington, and it is still not clear whether the talks will take place late this month or early next month, she said.

“We have to wait for the U.S. to confirm the date,” the prime minister said, adding that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, Thailand’s negotiation leader, has provided her with regular updates on preparations for the talks. Continued …

Foreign direct investment (FDI), especially investment coming from China, is expected to be hard hit by America’s reciprocal tariff policy, says a unit of China Galaxy Securities (CGS), a state-owned brokerage, which noted that the steep U.S. tariff would dent Thai GDP by about 1% this year.

The sectors that are likely to be hit hard once the 36% tariff becomes effective on July 8 include industrial estates, electronics, electrical appliances, and auto parts, assuming the reciprocal tariff is not further postponed, said Kasem Prunratanamala, head of research at CGS International (CGSI). Car production in Thailand fell 6.1% in March from a year earlier to 129,909 units, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) said today. That followed February’s 13.6% year-on-year drop, and was the 20th straight month that production had declined.

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

Gunman Opens Fire on Lorry Drivers After Road Rage Incident in Prachuap Khiri Khan

A 29-year-old lorry driver was wounded in the early hours yesterday, after being shot during a violent road rage incident on Phetkasem Road. The attack occurred at around 3 am in Ban Na Thong, Khlong Wan subdistrict.

Initial reports stated that the injured man had already been rushed to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital by fellow lorry drivers due to the severity of his injuries. Officers subsequently inspected the scene, where they found five spent 11mm bullet casings and one bullet head. Continued …

Heatstroke deaths surge, 4 southern provinces at extreme risk

The Department of Health has issued a warning urging the public to be cautious of heatstroke risks following a concerning rise in heatstroke-related deaths.

Data from the past six years (2019–2024) recorded a cumulative total of 212 fatalities, averaging 27 deaths per year. A British expat’s retirement in Thailand has turned stormy as his UK state pension remains frozen, leaving him counting every baht. Demolition workers should reach the first floor of the collapsed 30-story State Audit Office tower in Bangkok today, as the City Hall confirmed 62 deaths there.

The government has revealed that almost 30,000 online gambling websites and pages have been shut down in the first quarter of 2025, with more than 4,600 people arrested in connection with illegal online betting activities.

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

6 police officers honored after Hua Hin aircraft crash

Following a tragic small aircraft accident involving a police air unit, six police officers’ bodies have been transported from Hua Hin Hospital to the Police General Hospital’s forensic institute.

Deaths from sandfly bites prompt alert in Thailand

Thai health authorities have issued a warning following two deaths from leishmaniasis this year, urging the public to take precautions against bites from sandflies, the disease’s primary vector.

Thai Woman Survives King Cobra Attack, Brings Snake to Hospital

A 47-year-old woman from Sa Kaeo Province has been discharged from the hospital after surviving a King Cobra attack, during which she fought the snake and brought its carcass to doctors to aid in her treatment.

IMF advises ASEAN to boost regional trade amid Trump tariff threats

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

Transport Co. to adjust bus schedule and add stops on Don Mueang-Hua Hin route starting May 1

The Transport Co. (Thailand’s state transport corporation) has announced improvements to the Don Mueang-Hua Hin bus route, including a revised timetable and additional pick-up and drop-off points. These changes will take effect from May 1 as part of the corporation’s efforts to enhance passenger convenience and optimize revenue from both passenger transport and parcel services.

Transport Co. reviewed the feedback since the launch of the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route on March 8, a 216-kilometer route with a fare of 200 baht. Passengers have requested changes to the schedule and additional stops to improve the travel experience. In response, Transport Co. will revise the timetable and introduce new stops to meet the demand. Continued …

Six police officers killed as plane crashes into the sea near Cha Am

Six police officers on board a twin-engine turbo-prop aircraft were killed when it crashed into the sea off Cha Am in Phetchaburi province this morning. A rescue team found one survivor and rushed him to Hua Hin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Two more bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed 30-story building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, bringing the death toll to 51, a rescue official confirmed yesterday. As of yesterday morning, 43 individuals were still missing.

Remains of 18 more people recovered from collapsed SAO building

Search teams found partial remains of what are believed to be 18 people under the debris of the collapsed SAO building during yesterday and overnight, said Suriyachai Rawiwan, director of the Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). All the remains were have been taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for identification.

Deputy Bangkok Gov. Tavida Kamolvej says that the BMA sought help from the Thai Embassy in Myanmar, by collecting DNA samples from relatives of missing Myanmar nationals, to be used in the identification process, adding that 97 sets of DNA have been collected so far. – thaipbs.com

DSI Arrests Chinese Tycoon Linked to Collapsed Government Building

Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has arrested a prominent Chinese businessman in connection with an alleged nominee shareholding arrangement linked to the collapsed 30-story State Audit Office building, which was under construction by China Railway No. 10 (Thailand) Co.

Chuanling Zhang, a key shareholder and director of the company, was apprehended at a luxury hotel in Bangkok’s Ratchadaphisek area after being under surveillance for two days. He was taken into custody following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Criminal Court under Sections 37 and 41 of the Foreign Business Act B.E. 2542 (1999), which prohibits foreign nationals from using Thai nominees to circumvent business ownership restrictions. The latest update to the Brookings-FT Tiger index reveals a mixed picture, with the financial index declining and private-sector confidence crumbling, even as macroeconomic data (which lag the other indicators) suggest a more benign scenario.

The U.S. economy performed well in the first quarter of 2025: output and employment grew robustly through March, and inflation fell gradually. Thailand is paving the way for a smoother ride, literally, as the government pushes forward with a massive upgrade of Highway 37, better known as the Cha Am Bypass, in a project set to ease traffic woes, enhance road safety, and drive tourism and economic growth along the Gulf coast.

Songkran holiday road deaths reach 200

As Thailand’s Songkran festival unfolds, the joyous celebration has been overshadowed by a grim reality. The Road Safety Center reports that the death toll on the country’s roads has climbed to 200, with over 1,300 injuries during the first six days of the festival, putting a spotlight on the country’s persistent road safety challenges.

The yearly “Seven Dangerous Days” campaign, spanning April 11 to 16, recorded 1,377 road accidents, with speeding and motorcyclists featuring prominently in these incidents. Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry Kachorn Srichavanothai conveyed these figures at a press briefing, revealing that on April 16 alone, 155 accidents resulted in 22 fatalities and 149 injuries. Mother Donates Organs of 14-Year-Old Son, Helping Four Lives After Songkran Death

A mother from Phitsanulok has turned grief into an act of love, compassion, and hope when she decided to donate the organs of her 14-year-old son following a fatal road collision during the Songkran holiday.

Her son, Thanawit, known as “Poom”, lost his life after a collision in the early hours of April 15. Poom had been helping push a motorcycle across a central road divider with two friends in Tha Thong subdistrict when a pickup truck crashed into them. His two friends, also aged 14, died instantly at the scene. Poom sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Buddhachinaraj Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU with severe brain trauma. Design Flaw, Forgery Allegations Surface in Deadly Building Collapse

The SAO building collapse on March 28 may have been caused by a design blunder in the elevator shaft. A fact-finding committee has suggested that the tremors from Myanmar’s earthquake might have triggered the mishap due to compromised structural integrity, Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul disclosed. Seven mild earthquakes were recorded in Myanmar and northern Thailand today, with magnitudes ranging from 1.4 to 4.1, according to the Thai Meteorological Department. The Earthquake Observation Division of the department stated that one of these earthquakes occurred in Thailand.

A 1.4-magnitude quake at a depth of 5 kilometers occurred at 1:12 am in Na Yang subdistrict, Sop Prap District, Lampang Province, the department reported. The Thailand Culinary Image Assessment and Michelin Guide Thailand 2024 by Kenetixs Consulting surveyed 3,000 foreign travelers (1,800 online responses and 1,200 interviews) and 1,200 Thai travelers (800 online and 400 interviews).

The findings revealed that Japan remains the top destination for food tourism, achieving a score of 64% in 2024, up from 56% in 2023. Malaysians top list of visitors to Thailand over Songkran

Malaysia saw the most people visit Thailand during the Songkran festival, followed by those from China, India, Russia and the UK, according to deputy government spokeswoman Sasikarn Watthanachan. Between April 6-12, foreign nationals entering Thailand reached 666,180, marking a 10.7% increase from the previous week.

Traffic accidents killed 171 people and injured 1,208 others during the first five days of the Songkran holiday, as of Tuesday night. Officials reported yesterday that from April 11-15 there were 1,216 reported traffic accidents nationwide in which 171 people were killed and 1,208 others were injured.

Songkran Road Death Toll Reaches 100 After Three Days

Authorities have reported a 100 fatalities and 752 injuries from 756 road crashes in the first three days of the Songkran holiday period, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).

The leading causes of the accidents were speeding (44.3%), drink-driving (29%), and abrupt lane changes (17.9%). Motorcycles were involved in 85.9% of the reported incidents, with straight road sections accounting for the majority of crashes (81.4%). Most accidents occurred between 6 pm and 9 pm. Continued …

1,472 Drink-Driving Cases Reported in First Three Days of Songkran

The Department of Probation has revealed that within the first three days of the Songkran holiday period this year, there have been 1,579 traffic-related cases dealt with, under court-ordered probation orders, with 1,472 involving drink-driving offenses. Chiang Mai ranks highest in the country with 136 cases, followed by Samut Prakan (123 cases) and Bangkok (118 cases).

Police Lt. Col. Suriya Singhakomol, director-general of the Department of Probation, emphasized the department’s strict monitoring measures being used. These include the use of electronic monitoring (EM) bracelets ordered by the courts, and collaboration with local police stations to track driver behavior through CCTV footage. Continued …

Pickup Truck Ploughs Through Songkran Revellers, Injuring Nearly 20, Driver Beaten by Mob

An incident marred Songkran celebrations in Chachoengsao province yesterday when a pickup truck driver rammed through a large crowd of water festival revellers, injuring nearly 20 people, six of them seriously. The chaotic aftermath saw an enraged crowd of over a hundred people drag the driver from the vehicle and beat him severely before police arrived.

The driver’s motives remain unclear, but according to onlookers, he appeared to deliberately speed into the crowd. As panic turned to fury, the crowd smashed the truck’s windows and attacked the man inside. Two more bodies found under collapsed building, death toll rises to 43

Two more bodies were discovered in Zone C of the collapsed 30-story building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district yesterday, bringing the confirmed death toll to 43, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported.

The under-construction State Audit Office (SAO) building on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road collapsed on March 28 due to the impact of an 8.2-magnitude earthquake near Mandalay, Myanmar, trapping over a hundred workers inside. Continued …

Changed elevator shaft design may be behind SAO building collapse

The government-appointed investigating committee currently thinks that a change in the design of the elevator shaft of the State Audit Office building, reducing its wall thickness from 30cm to 25cm, may be the reason why the building collapsed when it was hit by tremors from an earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, according to Prof. Amorn Pimanmas, president of the Association of Structural Engineers.

A 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck Khlong Khamao subdistrict of Krabi province yesterday, about 791 kilometers from Bangkok. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), in collaboration with the Earthquake Research Center of Thailand, provided a summary of the earthquake that occurred at 2:27 pm.

The 3.5-magnitude quake struck Khlong Khamao subdistrict of Krabi province, near the Khlong Marui Fault Line, about 791 kilometers from Bangkok. The tremor could be felt in some of the nearby areas. Continued …

Hua Hin to Chiang Mai: Departure 5:15pm, Arrival at 6:30pm

Chiang Mai to Hua Hin: Departure 3:25pm, arrival at 4:45pm
