Construction of last three double-track rail routes approved

The private sector has collectively called for attention to be paid to tourism’s supply side after the prime minister insisted on refraining from the collection of a 300-baht tourism fee from foreign tourists, which was meant to be used to set up a tourism development fund.

Thai Survey Reveals 44.3% Highly Satisfied with Government Performance

A recently released survey by the Thai Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has unveiled intriguing insights into public opinion on government performance. Conducted between April 22 and May 15, the survey involved 6,970 participants aged 16 and older, who were interviewed in person.

Thai Authorities Bust Major Tiger Cub Trafficking Operation

Yesterday, Thai authorities successfully executed a sting operation in Bueng Kan province, foiling an illegal wildlife trafficking scheme involving a valuable tiger cub. The would-be sellers sought a substantial profit of 300,000 baht, equivalent to roughly US$8,200.

Executives of the Revenue, Excise and Customs departments were called to a meeting by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin on Wednesday after revenue collection in the first seven months reportedly missed the target by 2.4%, or 35.49 billion baht.

China’s pent-up outbound tourism demand hit by visa, flight issues

Visa delays and insufficient flight capacity have held back a full recovery in China’s outbound travel after the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the CEO of Trip.com Group, the country’s largest online travel agency.

“There are two major hurdles for the recovery – the first is visa restriction, and the second is flight capacity,” Jane Sun said at a media briefing in Shanghai on Thursday. “I am hoping these two bottlenecks ease and we are able to bring more (Chinese) customers to different countries.” Continued …

New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern

178-Feet Drop Caused Injuries on Singapore Airlines Jet

Thap Thai in Hua Hin declared disaster zone, landfill fire continues

In response to the landfill fire that has been raging for over a week, the Thap Thai subdistrict in Hua Hin has been declared a disaster area, enabling officials to use significant resources to combat the blaze.

Officials say they expect the fire to be extinguished within the next two days. The fire, which started approximately one week ago due to extremely hot weather conditions, has consumed a massive pile of garbage accumulated over more than a decade at the old landfill site, which spans 170 acres at Moo 1, Ban Nong Pranpuk. Survey finds schooling expenses have gone up 43% to a 15-year high

The cost of schooling is at an all-time high because of higher tuition fees, instruction fees and increasing prices of school supplies, amounting to an estimated 60.322 billion baht, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) said.

Thanawan Polwichai, advisory chairman of the UTCC’s Center for Economic and Business Forecast, said the survey on “Cost of back to school 2024 for guardians” had 1,365 respondents throughout the country and was conducted from May 1-6. Continued …

Caps on diesel, cooking gas, power to continue for now

The Cabinet has given the go-ahead to extend three subsidies in a bid to continue easing people’s financial burden, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said on Tuesday.

The measures are: Capping the retail price of diesel at 33 baht per lit; capping cooking gas at 423 baht per 15kg canister; capping electricity at 19.05 baht per unit for households using less than 300 units per month. Continued …

Hua Hin suffers agricultural losses following Tuesday’s storm

A powerful summer storm on Tuesday left a trail of destruction across several districts, with local farms, particularly durian orchards, bearing the brunt of the damage. Tuesday’s storm was the first significant rainfall the region has seen in nearly five months. #huahin

Thailand’s rare ‘tiger cat’ caught on video
