Bluport Hua Hin immigration office moves to third floor

The Prachuap Khiri Khan Immigration Office located at Bluport Hua Hin has officially moved from the basement level (B Floor) to the shopping mall’s 3rd floor. The relocation took effect yesterday.

The new office continues to offer limited immigration services, including 90-day reporting, re-entry permits, 30-day extension applications (for visa exemption and tourist visas), and TM30 notifications. These services are available from 11am to 5pm (lunch break 12pm to 1pm). Continued …

Expect road closures for water pipeline work in August

Officials from Hua Hin City Municipality have visited the site of a new water pipeline project to publicize upcoming road closures on Amnuaysin Road and Sarasong Road. The closures are required to facilitate the installation of raw water pipes aimed at improving the city’s water distribution network.

20 stray dogs poisoned in Hua Hin

More than 20 street dogs have been poisoned on Soi 88, Hua Hin, in what is suspected to be a deliberate act linked to land clearance for construction. At least 10 dogs have died, with several more missing and presumed dead.

The dogs were part of a long-running sterilization and care program led by Caroline Meier and her team at Caro’s World–The Way of Magic. The group has successfully vaccinated and sterilized over 90% of the area’s stray dog population, while providing daily feeding and medical support. Continued …

Three more soldiers killed in border clashes, raising military death toll to 14

The Royal Thai Army (RTA) announced yesterday that three more Thai soldiers had lost their lives while defending the nation’s territory against Cambodian aggression, bringing the military death toll over five days of border clashes to 14.

The RTA reported that the three soldiers were killed in fighting on Monday. The RTA confirmed that, to date, 14 soldiers have been killed since the Thai-Cambodian border clashes erupted on July 24. Continued …

Thai schools wary after 5 kids left dead

Public Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Varoth Chotpitayasunondh reported that the border clashes have led to 15 civilian deaths and injured 53 others. Among the dead, five were reported to be local students.

Flooding continues in northern Thailand due to heavy rain

New business registrations hit by US levies

New business registrations are projected to stagnate at 85,000 this year, similar to 2024, due to US tariffs that could affect exports in the latter half, according to the Department of Business Development (DBD).

The Commerce Ministry has announced that Thailand was the world top exporter of tapioca in 2024 and sets a target to champion the global largest exporter of the crop again in 2025. Thailand’s exports of tapioca totaled 4.06 million tons during the first five months of 2025, a 37.2% year-on-year growth. Thailand’s foreign visitors down more than 6% so far in 2025

Thailand’s foreign tourist arrivals from Jan. 1 to July 27 fell 6.2% from the same period a year earlier, the Tourism Ministry said yesterday. There were about 18.98 million foreign visitors during the period, it said. China was the largest source market with 2.64 million visitors.

Last month, the Bank of Thailand cut its forecast for foreign tourist arrivals this year to 35 million from 37.5 million. There was a record of nearly 40 million visitors in 2019, before the pandemic. – Reuters

Travelers get cold feet over skirmishes

Despite the long holiday, operators in Chanthaburi and Nakhon Ratchasima reported a surge of room cancellations, as tourists were concerned about the border dispute, including fears over Cambodia’s PHL-03 rocket launcher, which has a range of up to 130 kilometers from the border.

Thailand F-16 jet bombs Cambodian targets as border clash escalates

A Thai F-16 fighter jet bombed targets in Cambodia, both sides said, as weeks of tension over a border dispute escalated into clashes yesterday that have killed at least 12 people, including 11 civilians.

Of the six F-16 fighter jets that Thailand readied to deploy along the disputed border, one of the aircraft fired into Cambodia and destroyed a military target, the Thai army said. Both countries accused each other of starting the clash early yesterday. Continued … 

12 Killed in Cambodian Artillery Strikes on Civilian Areas

Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin confirmed yesterday that 12 people, 11 civilians and one Thai soldier, were killed in artillery shelling launched by Cambodian forces, in what officials have condemned as a blatant attack on civilian areas.

The strikes, which also wounded at least 24 civilians and seven military personnel, included a direct hit on a hospital within Thai territory. Among the civilian casualties was a child, underscoring the devastating impact on non-combatants. Continued …

Royal Thai Marines Deploy Heavy Weapons to Trat Border Amid Escalating Tensions

New Driving License Rule Causes Concern Among Expats

A recent change in driving license regulations in Pattaya and Rayong is causing confusion among the foreign community. As of July 17, foreigners with visas valid for less than a year will only receive two-year driving licenses, whether applying for the first time or renewing.

Nan flood ‘worst in 40 years’

Nan is facing its worst inundation in over 40 years, with floods threatening the northern province’s economic heart, as well as its iconic landmarks.

Flooded Chiang Rai farm sparks dramatic pig rescue

A frantic mission is underway in Chiang Rai, where rising floodwaters have forced officials to evacuate more than 1,000 pigs from a waterlogged farm — one tiny boatload at a time.

With land access cut off, rescuers are relying on small boats to ferry the animals to dry ground. The pigs are first placed into cages before being loaded onto boats, which then make the slow trip to trucks waiting roadside. Thailand’s customs-cleared exports rose 15.5% in June from a year earlier, the Commerce Ministry said yesterday, below analysts’ expectations, with a strong baht eroding trade.

Tourism confidence dives

The tourism confidence index in the second quarter plunged year-on-year, as tourism contracted since the beginning of the year due to safety concerns and cautious tourism spending following the U.S.’s decision to implement a reciprocal tariff policy, according to the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT).

The TCT also predicted that Thailand would gain only 33.3 million foreign arrivals this year, which is even fewer visitors than last year, and secure 1.75 trillion baht revenue. Continued …

Thai hotels face crisis as Chinese tourists drop by 42%

The Thai hotel industry is facing a significant drop in tourist numbers. Chinese tourists alone decreased by 42% in June. The Thai Hotels Assn. is urging the government to enhance the country’s image, enforce safety measures, and tackle overcharging of foreign tourists.

Tianprasert Chaipattaranan, President of the Thai Hotels Assn., expressed concern over the drop in foreign tourists, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. In the first six months of 2025, a total of 16.68 million foreign tourists visited Thailand, a 4.7% decrease from the 17.5 million during the same period last year. Continued …

Departing passenger service charge may go up

The Transport Ministry has told Airports of Thailand (AoT) to explore the possibility of raising the passenger service charge (PSC) for departing passengers at six major airports under its supervision. Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said an increase of 100 baht is under consideration.

How plastic pollution flows from rivers to oceans — and how to stop it

Rivers carry plastic across continents, so scientists tracked its movement across continents too. A sweeping new study spanning four continents and eight countries has amassed one of the largest datasets ever collected on plastic pollution in rivers — offering insights that the researchers responsible believe are key to helping turn off the tap of plastic waste.

Heavy rain forecast in Hua Hin throughout the week

Residents and visitors in Hua Hin are being advised to prepare for a prolonged spell of wet weather, with heavy rainfall expected across the city for much of the coming week.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department’s 7-day forecast, Hua Hin is likely to see heavy rain every day through Saturday , with rainfall affecting between 40% and 60% of the area each day. Wind speeds are forecast to range from 15 to 22 km/h, blowing predominantly from the west-southwest, while wave heights along the coast are expected to reach up to two meters. Continued …

The patient lay prone on the operating table. An IV line snaking from his left leg, near the wound from the tranquilizer dart that sedated him. Yong, a pig-tailed macaque rescued from a life harvesting coconuts, was being treated at Thailand’s only NGO-run wildlife hospital.

Thailand has activated a round-the-clock “war room” for real-time monitoring and disaster management as a powerful storm approaches. This measure comes after warnings from the Thai Meteorological Department about heavy rain expected in several northern provinces due to Typhoon Wipha’s proximity to northern Vietnam today and tomorrow.

Interior Minister Phumtham Wechayachai announced that the north and northeast should prepare for intense rainfall Tomorrow and Wednesday, potentially causing a rise in the Mekong River’s levels. More than half of edible flowers contaminated with pesticides

Two studies have found that more than half of sampled edible flowers in Thailand were contaminated with hazardous pesticides. The findings were presented recently at the 33rd Medical Academic Meeting held at the Impact Forum in Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi.

The first study was conducted by the Food Quality and Safety Office, under the Department of Medical Sciences, in collaboration with officials from the department’s offices in Chiang Rai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Songkhla, and Chonburi. Survey finds public blames monks’ misconduct for Buddhism’s decline

The National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) has released the findings of a new public opinion survey titled “Crisis in Buddhism!”, revealing widespread concerns among Thai Buddhists over the state of the clergy.

Conducted by NIDA Poll between July 14–16, the survey gathered responses from 1,310 Buddhists aged 18 and above across all regions, education levels, occupations, and income brackets nationwide. Thailand ‘can’t match’ Vietnam’s US tariff proposals

Thailand o the United States as Vietnam did, warns Somjai Phagaphasvivat, an expert in international economics, who added that Vietnam was able to remove tariffs on all U.S. imports because it has free trade agreements (FTAs) with 27 countries, which have already reduced most of Vietnam’s import tariffs to zero. In contrast, Thailand is unlikely to do the same, because it has FTAs with fewer countries than Vietnam does, he said.

“Nevertheless, one thing we must consider is that, at some point, we may have to do what Vietnam did in the future. We will need to enhance our competitiveness, and when the time comes and we have more FTAs with other countries, we’ll be able to open up fully,” said Somjai. Continued …

Over the past three years, Thai tourism has been struggling to regain the peak it once reached prior to the pandemic, while neighboring countries Malaysia and Vietnam have already surpassed their performance in 2019, recording 37 million and 17 million tourist arrivals, respectively.

Soi 94 roadworks set for completion by end of October

Electricity bills during the last four months of this year will not be further reduced as the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has decided to maintain the current power tariff despite positive factors that could lead to a lower rate.

The tariff rate, which is used to determine electricity prices, stands at 3.98 baht per kilowatt-hour (unit), applicable until the end of August. Thailand, which was formerly a top draw card among tourists in Southeast Asia, has been experiencing a noticeable downturn in tourist arrivals from over a year ago. Latest figures reveal a 5% fall in the visits made by tourists to the country, with the first half of 2025 seeing a total of 16.6 million visitors, at a reduction of 17.5 million the previous year. The drop was significant in May 2025, in particular, with 14% fewer tourists than the previous year.

This decline is particularly alarming to Thailand, where tourism represents around a fifth of the country’s gross domestic product. Hua Hin mango plantation ‘encroaching on state land’

Authorities say they have found evidence that a large commercial mango plantation in Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province encroaches on nearly 4,000 rai of state land.

Thailand is set to experience widespread thundershowers and severe weather conditions today as the monsoon trough moves across the upper north, Laos, and upper Vietnam, with a low-pressure cell covering the upper northeast. Wild elephants forage for food, wreak havoc in Prachin Buri

Thailnd exports threatened by US tariffs

American Tourist Assaulted by Bar Owner for Filming Venue

An American tourist was left bloodied and bruised after allegedly being punched by a foreign bar owner in Pattaya’s Soi Buakhao area, reportedly for filming the venue. The victim, 38, presented himself at Pattaya City Police Station in the early yesterday morning with a bloodied face, a gash over his left eyebrow, and severe swelling around his eye. He also submitted a video clip as evidence of the incident.

According to his statement to police, the man, who is a frequent visitor to Pattaya, had been enjoying drinks at a unnamed beer bar on Soi Buakhao. After spending more than 700 baht, he began filming the venue’s surroundings as a memento before returning to the United States. Continued …

Fake Cops in Pattaya rob 230,000 Baht from Chinese Tourist

A Chinese tourist was abducted and robbed of over 230,000 baht by men disguising themselves as police officers. The incident happened early last Thursday morning. CCTV footage shows two men, dressed in dark clothing, forcing 52-year-old Lin Yifan into a car near a North Pattaya Road food stall. Lin was waiting for a ride he had ordered via an app.

Easy Airline is set to expand its aviation operations with a new regional service connecting Hua Hin to key southern destinations: Surat Thani, Phuket and Hat Yai. Arsenic contamination in Chiang Mai children linked to river fish

Authorities have set a final deadline ofJuly 7 for the demolition of more than 30 beachside buildings in Hua Hin that have been deemed illegal due to encroachment on public coastal land.

The buildings in question include homes, guesthouses, and seafood restaurants, many of which have become familiar fixtures in the area over several decades. Hua Hin installs high-capacity water pumps to help prevent flooding

Hua Hin has begun operating two high-capacity water pumps to reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season. The pumps, provided by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (Region 4), are diesel-powered and capable of discharging 31,500 liters of water per minute. They have been installed at two key locations — at the end of the Khlong Takiab canal and near the Huana Reservoir.

Businesses call for delay in minimum wage hike

The government needs to reconsider its plan to increase the daily minimum wage in Bangkok to 400 baht from July 1, as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) cannot bear additional costs in such a weak economy, which is expected to slow further in the second half of this year, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Bangkok is slated to be added to a list of provinces where the daily minimum wage is 400 baht, a campaign pledge of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. A pilot program in four areas raised the daily minimum wage to 400 baht on Jan. 1 this year. Continued …

New minimum wage could lead to hotel layoffs

Large-scale layoffs in the hotel sector could be seen during this low season if the government agrees to raise the minimum wage to 400 baht from next week as planned, while the Thai Hotels Assn.(THA) has submitted a petition to the prime minister, asking for the policy to be cancelled.

La-iad Bungsrithong, an adviser to the THA board, said that as five-star hotels in Chiang Mai had earlier been mandated with the 400-baht daily minimum wage, they had already felt an impact from the soaring wage costs, which are up 14% from last year. Continued …

The Thai government aims to finalize several new free trade agreements (FTAs) with global partners by 2026, with the deal with South Korea expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

She also confirmed that the European Union (EU) and Thailand are accelerating talks to finalize the EU-Thailand FTA as soon as possible. Phuket Fines Over 28,000 Foreign Tourists for Traffic Offenses So Far in 2025

Phuket officials have reported that 28,809 foreign tourists have been fined for traffic violations on the island to date in 2025. Russian visitors topped the list with 3,121 cases, followed by tourists from China (1,721), the UK (1,419), France (1,365), and India (1,069).

Since Jan. 1, the police have arrested 369 foreigners for various offenses. These include 87 violations of the Immigration Act, 65 cases of drunk driving, and 27 breaches of the Alien Employment Act. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) reported the Covid-19 situation on Wednesday, stating that Bangkok continues to have the highest number of daily cases, with the nationwide total reaching 439,527 confirmed cases for the year.
