Hua Hin Airport to Become International Hub by 2025

Golfing in Hua Hin

Few golf course deals can equal the one hatched on the Royal Hua Hin course in 1932. In the middle of a game, Siam’s King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) learned that a powerful alliance of bureaucrats and soldiers in Bangkok were demanding he replace his country’s 700-year old absolute monarchy with a constitutional one. The king reportedly said to his golfing partners “I told you so” and played on. And thus began Siam- Thailand’s sometimes-rocky journey toward democracy.

Golf is still the hottest game in town, with Hua Hin regularly hosting major local and Asian tournaments. Fake pet meds seized, worth Bt84 million

Police seized fake animal medication worth more than 84 million baht from two major gang networks during raids in Nakhon Pathom and Samut Sakhon provinces.

Officers from the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) and officials from the Food and Drug Administration seized 222,360 illegal items found at four premises in the two central provinces, Thanakit Jitareerat, vice minister for public health, told reporters on Tuesday. Black panthers filmed at Kaeng Krachan National Park

Two black panthers were spotted by tourists at Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi province, calmly walking along the road to Panoen Thung without showing signs of fear toward vehicles. Mongkol Chaiphakdee, head of Kaeng Krachan National Park, confirmed that a tourist named Amy captured the rare sighting near Kilometer 20 on the way to Panoen Thung.

Amy managed to photograph two black panthers strolling in the area. The big cats did not display any panic or distress at the sight of cars before they eventually retreated into the forest. Following a summer of disruptions to the water supply in Hua Hin, a meeting was held to address the installation of a new raw water pipeline aimed at improving the future water supply for the area.

The primary focus of the meeting was the Phetchaburi-Hua Hin (extension) Water Pipeline System Project. This project involves laying a raw water pipeline on land owned by the State Railway of Thailand within the Hua Hin Municipal area. Maybank said that artificial intelligence (AI), data center boom, and broadening global electronics demand are brightening the trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) outlook.

The gross domestic product (GDP) growth of six ASEAN countries – Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – will recover to 4.5% and 4.7% in 2024 and 2025, respectively, from 4% in 2023, according to Maybank Research’s forecast. Continued …

Airlines push to upgrade regional Thai airports

The Airlines Association of Thailand (AAT) has urged the government to elevate more regional airports to become international airports, aiming to generate higher tourism revenue for 55 second-tier cities.

Suspect arrested in Hua Hin copper theft case

Hua Hin police have arrested a suspect in connection with a series of thefts targeting air conditioner compressors in villas across the Hin Lek Fai and Nong Kae subdistricts.

Between June 2 and June 4, several residents filed complaints at the Hua Hin Police Station, reporting that copper pipes connected to air compressors had been stolen from their properties. The thief, who targeted homes owned by foreigners or out-of-town residents, left behind plastic covers while taking the compressors. World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on May 31, with ashtrays and fresh flowers used as a common symbol in marking the occasion. Thailand, however, doesn’t use any common blooms to mark this important day but rather a specific flower – leelawadee.

Leelawadee (plumeria or frangipani), a small flowering tree often grown as cosmopolitan ornamentals, has long been used by Thais as a symbol of quitting personal vices. Factory output unexpectedly rises for first time in 19 months

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of Amazon, is ready to launch its new data center region in Thailand by early next year as part of a commitment announced in 2022.

TC Subaru (Thailand) announced recently that all Subaru vehicles will be imported now that Tan Chong International (TCIL) and Subaru Corp. have decided to cease car-assembly operations in Thailand by year end.

“From 2025, cars sold in Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia will transition to imported cars from Japan. 300 baht landing fee ‘unlikely to be scrapped’

Thailand is unlikely to abandon the controversial tourist tax called “Kha Yeap Pan Din” (fee for stepping on Thai soil), also known as a “landing fee”, according to new Tourism and Sports Minister Sermsak Pongpanich.

A total of 38 people have died of heatstroke this year and most deaths occurred in the northeast of Thailand, the Heath Department said on Sunday.

The reservoir behind Pasak Jolasid Dam in Lop Buri province is drying up, with water only filling 15% of its capacity, sufficient for consumption and agriculture for about four months.

Chupong Isarat, director of the Pasak Jolasid Dam Water Distribution and Maintenance Project, said that only about 148 million cubic meters of water are left, making it necessary to reduce discharges of water from the reservoir from 3.4 million cubic meters per day to only 1.3 million cubic meters, starting this week, as planned by the Royal Irrigation Department. Most provinces in the north were blanketed with dangerous red-coded levels of PM2.5 this morning, with Chiang Mai rated the city with the fourth worst air pollution in the entire world.

The Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) reported at 8am today that 11 provinces were facing red (seriously harmful) levels of particulate matter 2.5 micrometers and less in diameter (PM2.5), ranging from 82.1 to 158.8 micrograms per cubic meter of air over the past 24 hours. Households spend most on travel, petrol, phone bills

Thai household spending on consumer goods in April averaged 18,187 baht, with the biggest expenses being on public transport, petrol and mobile phones, according to a Commerce Ministry survey.

Trang Tourist Boat Overturns, One Fatality

Heavy rains forecast for mid-May

After enduring severe drought, residents of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province may finally see significant rainfall, as the dry season is expected to end soon. The Office of National Water Resources (ONWR) predicts at least three storms to hit the region by mid-May, potentially alleviating the current drought crisis. #huahindrought

Thailand needs economic reform, not stimulus

Following the pandemic-induced economic crisis of 2020-21, the new Thai government has been focused on boosting the rate of economic growth. Thailand’s economic growth has fallen more than Southeast Asian neighbors Indonesia or Vietnam due to its high dependence on exports and the tourism sector.

Residents of Thailand are advised to avoid staying outdoors for extended periods and to monitor the health of those in vulnerable groups, as most of the country is forecast to experience a hot to a very hot day today, the Thailand Meteorological Department said.

British Tourist Duped by Nonexistent Hotel on Thai Island

A British tourist, Glen Parke, has been ensnared in a hotel scam while on holiday in Thailand. Parke booked a 59-night stay at the apparent Lek Lek Residence on Koh Samui through Booking.com, paying £282 (around 13,000 baht).
