Transport Co. to adjust bus schedule and add stops on Don Mueang-Hua Hin route starting May 1

The Transport Co. (Thailand’s state transport corporation) has announced improvements to the Don Mueang-Hua Hin bus route, including a revised timetable and additional pick-up and drop-off points. These changes will take effect from May 1 as part of the corporation’s efforts to enhance passenger convenience and optimize revenue from both passenger transport and parcel services.

Transport Co. reviewed the feedback since the launch of the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route on March 8, a 216-kilometer route with a fare of 200 baht. Passengers have requested changes to the schedule and additional stops to improve the travel experience. Six police officers killed as plane crashes into the sea near Cha Am

Six police officers on board a twin-engine turbo-prop aircraft were killed when it crashed into the sea off Cha Am in Phetchaburi province this morning. A rescue team found one survivor and rushed him to Hua Hin Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police Lt. Gen. Archayon Kraithong, said that the de Havilland DHC 6-400 Twin Otter plane was on a trial flight, in preparation for a parachute exercise in the Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Continued …

Crowds join Anzac Day services for Australia, New Zealand forces

Crowds of Australians and New Zealanders gathered just before dawn today to observe solemn Anzac Day ceremonies, but one service was briefly interrupted by booing – with a local politician blaming a “known neo-Nazi”.

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. The bus will stop at eight locations, including the Service Hall at Don Mueang, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal in Bangkok, Mahachai, Phetchaburi Big C, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, and the Hua Hin Bus Station.

For the return trips from Hua Hin, buses will depart at  9 am and 3:30 pm, stopping at seven locations, including the Hua Hin Bus Station, Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall, Cha Am PTT Petrol Station, Phetchaburi Bus Station, Mahachai, Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal, and Don Mueang Airport.

Heat index hits extreme levels

Temperatures hit “very dangerous” levels in Phuket yesterday and “dangerous” levels in Bangkok and 34 other provinces, and the heatwave was expected to continue today. People in vulnerable groups, including the elderly and sick, were warned to stay out of the sun.

Dr. Amporn Benjaponpitak, director-general of the department of health, said a “heat index” at the very dangerous red level could result in rashes, cramps, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, or fainting, and even death. Continued …

Thailand cracks down on foreigners using student visas to work illegally

Amid growing concerns over foreign nationals, particularly Chinese engineers, using student visas to illegally work on construction sites in Thailand, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and the Immigration Bureau have joined forces to address the issue.

The concern intensified after reports revealed that foreign workers were exploiting student visas to bypass work permit regulations. Notably, online platforms like CSI LA and “Ru Tan Jeen” highlighted operations in provinces like Lamphun, where student visas were allegedly renewed for 10,000 baht per person and used as a cover for nationwide illegal employment, complete with transportation networks. Thailand’s Most Wanted Gunman Captured in Surat Thani

Thailand’s top-ranked contract killer in the southern region, known for a string of violent crimes and a reputation for being heavily armed, was arrested after a tense standoff with police at a resort in Chaiya District, Surat Thani.

The suspect, 38-year-old Thanawat, also known as “Ae”, was apprehended by a special task force from the Royal Thai Police’s anti-gang and contract killer suppression unit. A scandal is brewing at Parliament’s doorstep after a whopping 14 million baht mysteriously vanished from the Parliamentary Official Saving and Credit Cooperative. But despite the fraud, House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha insists there’s no need to panic.

Thailand’s main opposition party called for an economic stimulus package to cope with U.S. tariffs after Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra signaled that trade talks to secure relief from the levy have been stalled.

New Schedule: Bus service between Hua Hin, Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok

The first-class bus service between Don Mueang Airport and Hua Hin offers two round trips daily. The fare is 200 baht each way and takes three-and-a-half hours. The Hua Hin departure is from the current Transport Co. terminal just north of Hua Hin Airport.

Starting May 1, the Don Mueang-Hua Hin route will offer four round trips per day. The two outbound trips from Don Mueang Airport will depart at 8 am and 3 pm. A wild elephant believed to be between 50 and 60 years old has died after becoming trapped in a muddy waterhole in Kui Buri National Park. Authorities later discovered a bullet embedded in the animal’s body and signs of a severe internal infection, possibly contributing to its death.

Two more bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed 30-story building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district, bringing the death toll to 51, a rescue official confirmed yesterday. As of yesterday morning, 43 individuals were still missing.

Residents of Don Sak, Surat Thani, were shocked to find a massive king cobra roaming outside Baan Nang Kam Community School yesterday. Local rescue teams who captured the snake without incident. Songkhla has launched its first public electric (EV) bus as part of a pilot project spearheaded by the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO), aiming to promote clean energy and reduce air pollution in the region. The trial service was officially inaugurated yesterday.

The initiative aligns with the “Clean and Pollution-Free Songkhla” policy, one of five core policies and 35 strategic initiatives laid out by the province. A Thai-Chinese company yesterday denied allegations its steel rods did not pass safety standard tests after nationwide criticism prompted an investigation into the collapse of a high-rise building under construction after an earthquake last month in Bangkok.

Remains of 18 more people recovered from collapsed SAO building

Search teams found partial remains of what are believed to be 18 people under the debris of the collapsed SAO building during yesterday and overnight, said Suriyachai Rawiwan, director of the Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). All the remains were have been taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute for identification.

Deputy Bangkok Gov. Tavida Kamolvej says that the BMA sought help from the Thai Embassy in Myanmar, by collecting DNA samples from relatives of missing Myanmar nationals, to be used in the identification process, adding that 97 sets of DNA have been collected so far. – thaipbs.com

DSI Arrests Chinese Tycoon Linked to Collapsed Government Building

Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has arrested a prominent Chinese businessman in connection with an alleged nominee shareholding arrangement linked to the collapsed 30-story State Audit Office building, which was under construction by China Railway No. 10 (Thailand) Co.

Chuanling Zhang, a key shareholder and director of the company, was apprehended at a luxury hotel in Bangkok’s Ratchadaphisek area after being under surveillance for two days. He was taken into custody following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Criminal Court under Sections 37 and 41 of the Foreign Business Act B.E. 2542 (1999), which prohibits foreign nationals from using Thai nominees to circumvent business ownership restrictions. Seven earthquakes were recorded in Mae Hong Son and along the Myanmar border this morning, according to the Thai Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation Division.

Seven Dead as Runaway Bus Slams into Trucks and Bursts into Flames

At least seven people have died and 39 others were injured after a passenger bus suffered brake failure and plowed into three trucks before catching fire in a crash this morning.

The timing could hardly have been less propitious. Just as the world economy was showing signs of stabilizing, the odds of a policy-induced global recession have risen significantly. The latest update to the Brookings-FT Tiger index reveals a mixed picture, with the financial index declining and private-sector confidence crumbling, even as macroeconomic data (which lag the other indicators) suggest a more benign scenario.

Obviously, the biggest factor is U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policy, which has disrupted world trade and fueled turmoil in financial markets, undermining growth prospects that had looked promising at the start of the year. The U.S. economy performed well in the first quarter of 2025: output and employment grew robustly through March, and inflation fell gradually. Mother Donates Organs of 14-Year-Old Son, Helping Four Lives After Songkran Death

A mother from Phitsanulok has turned grief into an act of love, compassion, and hope when she decided to donate the organs of her 14-year-old son following a fatal road collision during the Songkran holiday.

Her son, Thanawit, known as “Poom”, lost his life after a collision in the early hours of April 15. Poom had been helping push a motorcycle across a central road divider with two friends in Tha Thong subdistrict when a pickup truck crashed into them. His two friends, also aged 14, died instantly at the scene. Poom sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Buddhachinaraj Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU with severe brain trauma. The Thailand Culinary Image Assessment and Michelin Guide Thailand 2024 by Kenetixs Consulting surveyed 3,000 foreign travelers (1,800 online responses and 1,200 interviews) and 1,200 Thai travelers (800 online and 400 interviews).

The findings revealed that Japan remains the top destination for food tourism, achieving a score of 64% in 2024, up from 56% in 2023. Malaysians top list of visitors to Thailand over Songkran

Malaysia saw the most people visit Thailand during the Songkran festival, followed by those from China, India, Russia and the UK, according to deputy government spokeswoman Sasikarn Watthanachan. Between April 6-12, foreign nationals entering Thailand reached 666,180, marking a 10.7% increase from the previous week.

Songkran road toll 171, mainly from speeding and drink-driving

Traffic accidents killed 171 people and injured 1,208 others during the first five days of the Songkran holiday, as of Tuesday night. Officials reported yesterday that from April 11-15 there were 1,216 reported traffic accidents nationwide in which 171 people were killed and 1,208 others were injured.

The southern province of Phatthalung reported the highest number of accidents, 44, Bangkok the most traffic accident fatalities, 15, and the northern province of Lampang the most road injuries, 47. Continued …

Twelve mild earthquakes were recorded in Myanmar and northern Thailand today, with magnitudes ranging from 1.6 to 3.5, according to the Thai Meteorological Department. The Earthquake Observation Division of the department stated that two of these earthquakes occurred in Thailand.

Authorities have reported a 100 fatalities and 752 injuries from 756 road crashes in the first three days of the Songkran holiday period, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).

The leading causes of the accidents were speeding (44.3%), drink-driving (29%), and abrupt lane changes (17.9%). 1,472 Drink-Driving Cases Reported in First Three Days of Songkran

The Department of Probation has revealed that within the first three days of the Songkran holiday period this year, there have been 1,579 traffic-related cases dealt with, under court-ordered probation orders, with 1,472 involving drink-driving offenses. Chiang Mai ranks highest in the country with 136 cases, followed by Samut Prakan (123 cases) and Bangkok (118 cases).

Police Lt. Col. Suriya Singhakomol, director-general of the Department of Probation, emphasized the department’s strict monitoring measures being used. Pickup Truck Ploughs Through Songkran Revellers, Injuring Nearly 20, Driver Beaten by Mob

An incident marred Songkran celebrations in Chachoengsao province yesterday when a pickup truck driver rammed through a large crowd of water festival revellers, injuring nearly 20 people, six of them seriously. The chaotic aftermath saw an enraged crowd of over a hundred people drag the driver from the vehicle and beat him severely before police arrived.

The driver’s motives remain unclear, but according to onlookers, he appeared to deliberately speed into the crowd. As panic turned to fury, the crowd smashed the truck’s windows and attacked the man inside. Two more bodies found under collapsed building, death toll rises to 43

Two more bodies were discovered in Zone C of the collapsed 30-story building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district yesterday, bringing the confirmed death toll to 43, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported.

The under-construction State Audit Office (SAO) building on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road collapsed on March 28 due to the impact of an 8.2-magnitude earthquake near Mandalay, Myanmar, trapping over a hundred workers inside. Continued …

Changed elevator shaft design may be behind SAO building collapse

The government-appointed investigating committee currently thinks that a change in the design of the elevator shaft of the State Audit Office building, reducing its wall thickness from 30cm to 25cm, may be the reason why the building collapsed when it was hit by tremors from an earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, according to Prof. Amorn Pimanmas, president of the Association of Structural Engineers.

A 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck Khlong Khamao subdistrict of Krabi province yesterday, about 791 kilometers from Bangkok. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), in collaboration with the Earthquake Research Center of Thailand, provided a summary of the earthquake that occurred at 2:27 pm.

The 3.5-magnitude quake struck Khlong Khamao subdistrict of Krabi province, near the Khlong Marui Fault Line, about 791 kilometers from Bangkok. The tremor could be felt in some of the nearby areas. Continued …

Songkran: The world’s biggest water fight

Every year from April 13-15, Thais across the country cool off and celebrate new beginnings with what is arguably the nation’s largest and most important festival: Songkran. Tied to the Thai New Year and the close of the annual rice harvest season, this annual celebration is all about purification, honoring elders and fostering a sense of renewal. However, it’s most well-known among travelers as a raucous country-wide splash fest.

59 Dead, 458 Injured in First Two Days of Songkran Holiday Travel

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported statistics on the second day of Thailand’s Songkran holiday road safety campaign, with 59 people killed and 458 injured in road crashes nationwide.

On April 12 alone, there were 248 road accidents, resulting in 30 fatalities and 257 injuries. The most common causes were speeding (39.9%), drink-driving (22.2%), and abrupt lane cutting (21%). As April temperatures soar in Thailand, new data reveals coastal destinations are dominating holiday searches for the upcoming Songkran festival. Booking.com reports that four out of the five most popular destinations for the Thai New Year period are seaside locations, with both domestic and international tourists eagerly seeking beach escapes.

When the water guns are filled and people don colorful floral printed shirts, you know it’s Songkran time. Also known as the water festival, Songkran takes pride of place among Thai festivals, as the mostly widely celebrated, the most famous, and undoubtedly the most entertaining.

Thailand records an average of 327 drowning fatalities each April, with the number surging by 1.5 times during the Songkran festival, the Public Health Ministry warned yesterday.

Thailand’s low inflation no obstacle to economic growth, central bank chief says

Thailand’s low inflation is neither a sign of deflation nor an obstacle to economic growth, its central bank chief said, responding to a query from the finance minister as to why the rate has stayed below target for the past 12 months.
