Water rationing – who is affected?

Are Hua Hin restaurants, hotels and water parks also on water restrictions?

While the news today of severe water restrictions for Hua Hin residents was not unexpected (if you follow the news), it has caused some chaos among residents and businesses alike.

According to initial reports, the Waterworks Department of Hua Hin Municipality has announced the water supply will be rationed effective immediately, a measure that highlights the severity of the ongoing water shortage affecting the area.

Residents will have access to public water only between the hours of 5am and 10:30am until further notice. The report did not say when “immediately” means, since the water was still on this afternoon.

The notice, however, did not explain if all areas of Hua Hin will be affected, nor did it say whether the rationing applies to just residences. Are businesses, such as restaurants, also being rationed from 10:30am to 5am the next morning? What about hotels? Are water parks included?

These are questions we have asked city officials. We hope for an answer but are not optimistic, but we’re sure there will be some clarity eventually.

  1. Just stop the stupid water throwing during Songkran. How can they possible allow this in a drought??!

    1. Not so simple as that. The problem has been building for years, recently getting only worse. Reservoir is not deep enough and there has not been enough rain. Songkran is a small blip. The question is who, if anyone, is exempt. Hotels? Restaurants? Water parks? Sufficient rain is not expected for 6-8 weeks.

  2. Agree with “Hua Hin Expat News, April 8, 2024 at 4:44 pm”, that the “problem has been building for years”, as has the issue adequate ifrastrcture in Hua Hin. .
