Songkran brings 435-million-baht boost to PKK

The Songkran festival brought an economic boost to Prachuap Khiri Khan. This year’s tourism revenue soared to over 435 million baht, marking a 38% increase from the previous year, according to the latest data.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan office reported that the festive period saw heightened activity and an influx of tourists throughout the province, not just in its popular beach-side district of Hua Hin. Continued …

162 killed in Songkran road accidents so far

Songkran’s notorious “seven dangerous days” have, as of Sunday, seen 1,259 traffic accidents, with 162 people killed and 1,279 injured. On Sunday, 317 accidents were reported, with 38 fatalities and 311 injuries.

The assistant national police chief said on Monday that many people have started making their way back to Bangkok and other big cities, opening the door to more accidents and heavy traffic. As part of measures to ensure safety, he said, Traffic Police will coordinate with their provincial counterparts and intensify checks at all roadblocks, especially near event venues and at night. Tyrant’s days are numbered as Karen soldiers burn the hated Myanmar flag in Myawaddy

The revolution in Myanmar against the brutal junta regime took a huge step forward in the last week. On Monday, Karen soldiers pulled down the despised Myanmar flag only introduced in 2010 by the military. In short, they burned it and replaced it with a blue, white and red Karen Union flag.

The fall of Myawaddy was completed at the end of the week. It came when the 275th Battalion was routed under rocket, drone and grenade attack, further weakening the junta. Thai PM declares official launch of digital wallet program

After months of delay, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced the official launch of the “digital wallet” scheme yesterday. The estimated 50 million Thai citizens aged 16 and older will be able to register in the third quarter of this year, with the 10,000 baht to be wired to their accounts in the fourth quarter.
